Wow!!! I’m afraid of getting this said to me as well.
Good luck to you and keep praying. God knows what He is doing.
I knew those things would be said. I guess it was more how they were said, the tone. As I sit here I wonder what he is saying to the others that he has to tell in the church. We have a very small church so I am very aware of who is telling. I am not really sure why he has to tell anyone. I am not a member of the church, they don’t have membership. Right now I am just trying to focus on tomorrow and being able to go to Mass and be with Jesus.

This is all happening at a great time, but that is how God works 😃

I have decided that I don’t have to explain myself to everyone in the church. I am not going to defend myself to those who don’t want to hear anything other than what they think. This actually is making me things even a bit more clearly. You know who you friends are when the friendship is put to a test.
No, you don’t have to explain yourself. Try not to harden your heart towards your friends either. People do all sorts of things for all sorts of reasons, but still we are called to love them. I’ll pray for the Holy Spirit to continue to guide you.

I keep an eye on this thread because I find your posts uplifting.

I love my friends so much. God put them in my life for a reason. I won’t defend myself with words but with actions. Christ’s love is shown through what we do.

This journey is packed with so many emotions.

I love to study and have spent a lot of time doing so. I was thankfully able to talk my mom into buying me the Catechism. I have been learning so much and I think it is something anyone who doesn’t have a clear understanding of Catholicism should read. Every single thing is backed up by Sacred Scripture and there is really no debating that, it is all right there to read. Maybe I should let my old Pastor borrow it LOL

I wish it was possible to explain fully to someone what happens when praying the Rosary and other prayers. I had not clue what it was like and had my views of what it was and my views weren’t even close. I am sitting here writing out the Divine Mercy Novena so that I have it all in my binder. It is not vain repetition. It is humbling, it brings us to where God wants us to be, we are showing our unending love for Christ. It is only vain repetition if someone makes it that. If are hearts are where they should be, it never will be.

I tried explaining how much better my prayer life has become. It is in my mind to pray more and more frequently. I see my Rosary and it reminds me to pray. I never said prayers before at specific times of day before. I do that now and I can’t imagine stopping that. I could write a book about prayer but I won’t do that here LOL

I am happy to have found a place to share and talk.

Hi TwinMommy! You and I are neighbors (SE Mass) - wicked cool, huh? 😉

I don’t know about parishes in Rhode Island unfortunately. The furthest south I have been is NewBedford - there is a Marian Franciscan Monastery there called “Our Ladys Chapel” that has a traditional Latin Mass at certain times during the week. Good, holy, and very traditional priests and brothers there. They also have a gift shop that is very affordable, and I doubt they would turn down a purchase if you couldn’t afford the full price. I belong to Holy Family Parish in East Taunton, MA. I love my parish - it has a LOT of life and the priest is young and very traditional and holy. There a quite a few parishes in Taunton, but they are all very different. Several have closed and merged with other parishes the past few years, but there are still quite a few. I think a couple more might be on their way out as they don’t seem to have much life. I’m thankful I live in an area with many choices - and our parish happens to be the closest to our home, so we’re blessed - but many people come from other areas just b/c it is such a blessed parish.

You have already been given so many great resources. Here are a couple more - not to overwhelm you, but I think you’ll really appreciate these:

The first is a link to a website that has online, perpetual Eucharistic Adoration. That is, Jesus is exposed in the Eucharist in a beautiful vessel called a Monstrance and it is video-displayed on the internet all day and night for our benefit - to worship, to just sit in His presence, to talk casually to, to pray before (rosary, divine mercy, whatever…). It has been a real blessing to me. savior.org/devotions.htm

The second is a link to a website that has the “Divine Office” or “Liturgy of the Hours” which, since you have an appreciation for prayer periods throughout the day, I think you will really love. (from the site): “From ancient times the Church has had the custom of celebrating each day the liturgy of the hours. In this way the Church fulfills the Lord’s precept to pray without ceasing, at once offering its praise to God the Father and interceding for the salvation of the world.” divineoffice.org/

My story is a lengthy one. I was raised a nominal Catholic (non-practicing), then had a power conversion that led me to fall in love with the Catholic Church. I was going to make my promises to enter the Secular Order of Discalced Carmelites when my faith began to waver. Long story short - I eventually left the CC and joined a nearly-Amish Mennonite community for about 6 years. In the midst of that I went into a spell of hardcore Atheism before the Lord really grabbed hold of me and again and gently led me back to the CC.

It has been really hard to discuss any of my Catholicity to the Mennonites - they believe the CC is the Whore of Babylon  and I have gotten a few letters in the mail and phone messages that are a bit condemning in nature, so I don’t see what good pursuing a conversation with them would be since there is no open-mindedness. And I know I am not strong enough in my Catholicity right now anyway - I don’t need the arguments to try to sway me; to lead myself into a temptation to go back. It is like losing my family b/c they were a very big part of my life and my childrens lives (we have 5). But what a friend we have in Jesus 😉 - daily Mass has filled this void MORE than I could have expected 👍

About confession - the Bible says we should confess our sins to one another. I seldom see that in Protesant circles. In Catholicism we do both at once: confess to one another and confess directly to God. Confession need not take the place of confession directly to God either - we can and ought to turn to God immediately when we sin - but when it is possible at the next opportunity we should bring it to the Sacrament of Reconciliation so we can restore the grace that is lost. It is a very great blessing to receive this Sacrament. I go weekly when possible.

Catholic music: There are a couple of nice playlists on YouTube. Look up Catholic Music Playlist and scroll down a ways. There’s one that has very traditional songs and chants in it and there are several songs on that playlist - I can listen for hours before it runs out. And John Michael Talbot… not only has the voice of an angel and has a real gift for evangelizing through his music, but he’s a very holy and loving person too. He interacts with people on his Facebook page - very down-to-earth and loving. YouTube “God Is Enough” - he has a very short and beautiful message before he begins the song that I think you will enjoy.

Anyway, I’ve enjoyed reading these posts - I am overjoyed to winess how the Spirit leads people to His Church. Maybe one day you and I will run into each other! Have a wicked awesome night! 😉
Bless you~

Wicked cool indeed!!! I go back in my posts and delete “wicked” LOL I say it way too much. I am from the south, my husband is from here and I said I would never say that or drop my “r’s” and well, it just happens.

Thank you so much for the links. So wonderful to have the Eucharist Adoration. I don’t know if every parish has Adoration but that is something that I find necessary when looking for a parish.

I honestly never thought that praying the way I have started would mean so much to me. Never thought I would have an alarm on my phone to pray.

The area I am moving to doesn’t have a lot of parishes. If I was staying in this area, Newport, there would be a lot more to check out then where I am going. We are moving to the Richmond area and I have found 3 that are within a decent driving time. I found one last night that has children’s Mass but it is about 30 minutes from where we will be. I don’t want to be that far because I don’t just want to go to Mass on Sunday. I want to be there as much as I can for Mass and prayer, plus I hope to be involved.

I have been talking to my boys about how we will be going to a new church. They aren’t understanding yet because they bring up their friends and ask if they will be there.

I have been waiting to hear from one parish and last night I got a notice of the email bouncing, so I am going to call tomorrow.

I am not sure how traditional the parishes are but I do want more of a traditional setting than a contemporary one. Why? I don’t know. Just what I am being drawn to.

I have been seeking out a lot of music which is I guess more traditional. For some time now I have been pulling away from contemporary Christian music. The other day I even delete my huge collection of playlists on YouTube.

I love hearing how the Lord lead people back to the Church and how He lead them to it. I know right now I couldn’t defend the negative things as those who have more knowledge can. I have never been good with remembering Scripture in order to share it. If I was rich I would hand everyone the Catechism. It will be interesting to see what happens after this morning. I know at Bible study something will be said. I remember not to long again when one person when back to the Church, it was announced and the reaction was horrible.

I have sat through countless sermons and teachings about confessing to one another and then it is never done. I wish I did not have to wait for confession as long as I will. I listened to a wonderful program on confession the other night and it really helped me see how important it is.

I would love to meet so many from here at CAF. Keep looking for others in RI. With it being such state you would guess there would be many here LOL

Twin why are you going to Bible study at your old church?
Oh I am not. I just know how things are done there.

I just got back from Mass a few minutes ago. I just wish Mass was longer. Seems like it goes by too quickly.

After Mass this morning I asked Father O’Brian to bless my Rosary.I explained to him that I wanted him to do it since my first Mass was there and this is my first Rosary. He was very happy to do this. He said he will be praying for me. He said every step I take to get closer to the Lord, He will take two steps closer to me.

Wait until you’ve been Catholic awhile. 😛

Just kidding. Welcome home!

Glad you went to Mass.

Some day, if you want, you should challenge the pastor. If he is a Christian, he is supposed to be committed to the truth of Jesus Christ.

Challenge him to face the truth of the Catholic Church.

I hope one day I feel that I can.

I wouldn’t worry about that too much at this point…unless you are strongly convicted to do so. Conversions, including yours, are mostly God’s job and in His wisdom and mercy He’ll include you in the conversion of another if it’s part of His plan.
Congratulations on bravely following God’s calling…

Yeah not something that is at the top of my list. One day I may feel convicted but if not, then that is ok.

Yes, this is God’s wisdom for sure in my conversation.

Funny story relating to the words “I will pray for you” and a convert. In this case it was a particular former… I think free will baptist featured on Marcus Grodi’s Journey Home (EWTN, on cable but also put on YouTube free to watch by EWTN). This guy installed a pipe organ at in a convent, the nuns there were quite impressed with him and his father. As they were getting ready to leave one of the nuns asked him his name, and said “we’ll be praying for you”.

Just before his conversion, while he was walking his own road to the church his father called. This was perhaps 7 years on from the date of installation, and the organ had required maintenance. The father had found out something quite shocking, the nuns had be praying for his son (the convert) every day the whole 7 years since the installation of the pipe organ!

Twinmommie…

Yes the posters are correct…only do it if you have the grace to do so. I see you brilliant in your understanding and scope of Catholic faith…and you only went to Mass once.

I have been twice now 😃 Went yesterday. Father O’Brian blessed my rosary. I had planned on going this morning after I took my boys to school but they did not go. I hope to make it at least one morning this week.

I noticed that a lot of the parishes I have been looking at have a Wednesday evening Mass. Is there a specific why there is an evening Mass on that day?

Next week is crunch time for our move. I really want to make it for as many Masses as I can for Holy Week. What a great time to come into the Church(non-officially lol) A new Pope, Holy Week and a faith that is growing leaps and bounds. Jesus is pouring blessings on me.

You may have to ask the parish. Some parishes have healing masses, have special masses for a special intention…a novena mass…there are varied reasons.
