In a letter to the student union, Louise Richardson, vice-chancellor, said that the mathematical, physical and life sciences division had been awarded a grant to develop teaching resources that supported the diversification of its curriculums, describing it as “an area that is frequently overlooked”. (Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)

She added: “Many departments in social sciences have begun work on making their curriculum more inclusive and adding diverse voices to it. This includes steps such as integrating race and gender questions into topics, embedding teaching on colonialism and empire into courses (Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)
Trying to make a prestigious university into a laughing stock.
A simple search will reveal the vice-chancellor has no background in the STEM field. That explains a lot.

This might be funny at first but think further into the future. If this spreads to other universities, you’ll have a generation of completely incompetent and dangerous doctors, engineers, lab technicians, modellers and safety inspectors.

I’m not surprised. Just further dumbing down of our students.

Scientia imperii decus et tutamen
(Scientific knowledge, the crowning glory and the safeguard of the empire)

Maybe it isn’t the Empire that’s the real problem. Otherwise they should change their name completely. It’s the “Scientia” part. Science hasn’t been decolonized yet.

Incredible… The loss of an understanding of objective Truth and reality itself continues to rot it’s way to the very core of civilization… Having said this, there is always hope! Forging takes time

Am I missing something? I don’t see that any informational content is being lost.

sigh,… a political science twit (who seems not to understand the field she is suppose to be an expert in)

WRT a lack of understanding or appreciation for STEM,… sadly it is happening here in the USA as well

by actively ignoring the science seems this is akin to what happens in a madrasas!!!
…madrasas promote Islamic extremism and militancy, and are a recruiting ground for terrorism

…Because most madrasa graduates have access only to a limited type of education, they commonly are employed in the religious sector as prayer leaders and Islamic scholars. Authorities in various countries are considering proposals for introducing improved science and math content into madrasas’ curricula

It’s vague for now. We’ll see how far they’ll take it and whether anyone wants to risk their careers to stand up to this nonsense.

“Two plus two equals five”.

“No it doesn’t, it equals four.”

“No, two plus two equals five…because I’m telling you it does.”

Nothing shared about what the school is doing appears even analogous to this. On the descriptions provided thus far it sounds like there is some ideological disagreements with the school. But there have been no actual or even alleged instances of faulty information being taught.

Considering that he snitched on political dissidents to the British government, I doubt he really should be the poster boy for anti-censorship and anti-totalitarianism.

That’s your opinion, others differ.

What does math and science have to do with race or culture? Nothing.

Introduce race, culture, and other subjective things and suddenly you have more politicization of science.

The more you politicize science, the more two plus two equals five…because those in power tells you it is. Disagree with those in power and you get cancelled.

And today, they will not only cancel you, but they will cancel your mother’s job and your wife’s job.

Do you really think this? Science has always been politicised, and has been used as a justification for awful political and social movements for centuries. It is inherently political, in that scientific statements have a bearing on political policy.
