All the nonsense about some figurines is just that - nonsense; and it has nothing to do with the very real and serious pandemic.
It isn’t for me to connect the dots between offenses to God like dragging a canoe with wooden idols in it to the very center of Christendom, and lying prostrate in front of it, dancing around it in the Vatican gardens, the abuse crisis and a global pandemic which knocks on the doors of the 1918 virus. I am just a rotten sinner.
Nor is it for me to ignore in the face of all of that, the many warnings of our Lady in Church approved aberrations. These things are meant for our own discernment of course.
But I think I can safely say that I am also not bold enough to trivialize those acts by calling them silly. In fact, I am surprised they [the idols] were not permanently displayed in the newly opened Borgia apartments in the Vatican that have been sealed for hundreds of years.
I have hope though, that the Holy Father will redact out the references in his encyclical about idols such as pachamana as symbols, in light of the fact that he did gratefully reject all of the recommendations of the Amazon Synod. Thanks be to God.
You are free to call what you want as silly. The question that really matters is did God consider it silly. The Bible is full of events that God did not find silly. You are correct when you said that there are other very serious matters afoot in the world. Abortion in the millions, sins en mass that our Lady termed “worse than before the flood” over a hundred years ago.
I apologize, for being overbearing about that point. Please don’t take it personally, many feel the way you do. I am sure you are a well meaning person. It is just that many don’t, feel that way as well, and I feel those of us with traditional Catholic values are scorned in many “circles.”
Jer: 6:16
Thus says the Lord: “Stand by the roads, and look, and ask for the ancient paths, where the good way is; and walk in it, and find rest for your souls."
