I got there this morning, just but have been going a lot lately and am sinning more now than ever so just a matter of time before I fall again.
Peace be with you, friend. May you have an extra measure of grace and strength during this challenging time.

Sorry, but I stand by my original statement. All the nonsense about some figurines is just that - nonsense; and it has nothing to do with the very real and serious pandemic.

No need to be sorry.
It is a real and awful pandemic.
In times of crisis it is natural for some to be retrospective and wonder why.
The pachamama incident was well planned and intentional against the backdrop of over 2000 years of Christianity/Catholicism. And as far as I know, it hasn’t been withdrawn in any way.

We can rest assured that God has his way in all matters.

I won’t pretend to know God’s plan, but China had nothing to do with the Pachamana. That seems an important piece.
It’s true they have nothing to do with the false god of pachamana, but in China the communist party is god. Communism is the enemy of religion. Nothing must come before the state, the party, and the leaders, least of all God. Maybe that is the piece.

No. Our Church does NOT teach us that God punishes humanity with disasters or epidemics. To say otherwise is a superstition normally reserved for fundamentalist churches.
I have heard this on CAF for more than one crisis…common topic and common reply. It always comes back to being a matter of faith and asking God for meaning and direction during times of crisis. It would do no one good to be hung up on pachamam though. We should be reflective on our own iniquities, be sorrowful, repent and make amends immediately. Beyond that, we can pray for others and all souls in need.

It isn’t for me to connect the dots between offenses to God like dragging a canoe with wooden idols in it to the very center of Christendom, and lying prostrate in front of it, dancing around it in the Vatican gardens, the abuse crisis and a global pandemic which knocks on the doors of the 1918 virus. I am just a rotten sinner.

Nor is it for me to ignore in the face of all of that, the many warnings of our Lady in Church approved aberrations. These things are meant for our own discernment of course.

But I think I can safely say that I am also not bold enough to trivialize those acts by calling them silly. In fact, I am surprised they [the idols] were not permanently displayed in the newly opened Borgia apartments in the Vatican that have been sealed for hundreds of years.

I have hope though, that the Holy Father will redact out the references in his encyclical about idols such as pachamana as symbols, in light of the fact that he did gratefully reject all of the recommendations of the Amazon Synod. Thanks be to God.

You are free to call what you want as silly. The question that really matters is did God consider it silly. The Bible is full of events that God did not find silly. You are correct when you said that there are other very serious matters afoot in the world. Abortion in the millions, sins en mass that our Lady termed “worse than before the flood” over a hundred years ago.

I apologize, for being overbearing about that point. Please don’t take it personally, many feel the way you do. I am sure you are a well meaning person. It is just that many don’t, feel that way as well, and I feel those of us with traditional Catholic values are scorned in many “circles.”

Jer: 6:16
Thus says the Lord: “Stand by the roads, and look, and ask for the ancient paths, where the good way is; and walk in it, and find rest for your souls."

Pax Christie
Peace my brother

God also gave us global warming as punishment for the sin of supporting worldwide corporate greed at the expense of protecting the environment. But you won’t hear conservatives play that line because it won’t fit their theology.
And the liberals who all worship Gaia have a better theology?

And given the only continent left untouched is Antarctica one may infer that…it is a sign…that I’d better go watch Frozen II.
Or maybe it is just a ringing in my ear…
“Into the Unknown”, such a beautiful song … ❄️

It is interesting that the crisis has gotten serious during the period of Lent. Through the sacrifices and penance associated with Lent and the Holy week pours down alot of Graces from heaven to mankind. We should use this period of Lent to ask God to be merciful on mankind, to deliver us from the fear and hysteria brought about by the pandemic, and to make us pay more attention to people living in the peripheries of society, people who live permenantly in fear of death, fear of hunger, in poverty, marginalised. Lets experience what it feels like beeing out of one’s comfort zone, lets learn not to judge others, lets increase our love for God and man. Our Lady, untier of Knots, pray for us.

What’s th link between two, rationally?

Italy have a very aged population one of the most aged in the world. They also lived a lot outside and in large cities. the relationship between aged people and the rest of the family is intense.
they closed schools, but maybe too late. Mayve they have took not all the decision needed.
They were not help by some who should have done it (for eg France should have help better).

That’s why France have decided to close everything (apart from food stores and Pharmacies) and forbid all publics gatherings, including masses to ty to not get into that level.

Okay… so why is Iran and China also being hit hard? They didn’t have a link to Pachamama. Is it because they’re naughty? Then why not any number of other countries or the entire world?

This is the thing. People can just force puzzle pieces together to make it work.

Some really good comments in here.

The last thing I would add is how to look at the countries that have been hit the hardest is per total population statistics, not overall. China is much larger than Italy.

Per population, Italy has the virus by far the worse.

I also saw someone comment on the average age in Italy is older. Not having children is a very dangerous thing for a country’s survival and this virus is exploiting that.

God Bless, All and be well.

And Germany has among the lowest deaths per person.

The German bishops are discussing many topics in their synodal process that sone persons would consider progressive.

Coincidence? Or a sign of God’s approval of their proposals?

It’s easy to see a lot of things in this–Italy being hit so hard by a virus from China could be seen as linked to the apparently terrible “deal” between China and the primate of Italy (the Bishop of Rome). The virus forbidding large gatherings–like synods–could be seen as God’s judgment on such recent and current ecclesiastical gatherings. The virus forcing people to spend more time with their families could be seen as God’s judgment as to modern society’s current mode of operating.

Despite what some in this thread are saying, God does send chastisements–He sends them to purify us and draw us closer to Himself. See Hebrews 12. We should seek to draw closer to God and be purified of sin and worldly attachments in all tribulations. That is always the message in such things.
