I am surprised that since you are so well equipped to read the Bible, and make a point of telling others to read the Bible carefully, that you did not comment on the detailed reading of two creation days from Genesis chapter 1 which I supplied on the previous page 69 in Post # 1026.
Didn’t see your post so I couldn’t read it and respond to it.

Scofield Reference Notes:

The new beginning - the first day: light diffused

[4] Let there be light

Neither here nor in verses 14-18 is an original creative act implied. A different word is used. The sense is, made to appear; made visible. The sun and moon were created “in the beginning.” The “light” of course came from the sun, but the vapour diffused the light. Later the sun appeared in an unclouded sky.
But I disagree with you that they “had to have been there before that otherwise, there couldn’t have been any day or night before that, which the Bible says there was” A careful reading of the scriptures proves otherwise.
It wasn’t reading that created the “understanding.” You read stuff into the texts that isn’t there. The sun has been shining for millions of years. Look at all the craters on the moon–how many knew one’s have been created in the last hundred years or so? It has been here for millions of years too.
SDAs begin with the sabbath being the main purpose and end of God’s instruction to His people,
They don’t do that. You read that into some non-existant text.

Hi paarsurrey,

It is never too late. The thread is titled “Why is sunday instead of saturday the sabboth”. It can be found in the Non-Catholic Relgions section…you just have to go to page two or beyond dependening on how far it gets pushed back. It is closed but anyone can access it.

I have copied the post below that he is referring to:

"Overly neglectful reading of the text in Genesis chapter 1.

If you read what and how God creates each day in the creation story, He always begins His creation by saying “Let there be”.

On Day One: Genesis 1:2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. 3 And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. 4 God saw that the light was good, and He separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day.

Notice that He created Light on the 1st day by saying “Let there be light”. And notice that “light” in verse 3 is singular.

On Day Four: Genesis 1:14 And God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark seasons and days and years, 15 and let them be lights in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth.” And it was so. 16 God made two great lights—the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars. 17 God set them in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth, 18 to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good. 19 And there was evening, and there was morning—the fourth day.

Notice that He created Lights on the 4th day by saying “Let there be lights”. And notice that “lights” in verse 14 is plural. Verse 16 says that God made two great lights to govern the day and night, and he also made the stars. (the scipture quotes above are from the NIV…but the singular and plural shows up in all the other versions I’ve looked at)

I agree with you as to object and purpose for which those 2 lights were created. But I disagree with you that they “had to have been there before that otherwise, there couldn’t have been any day or night before that, which the Bible says there was” A careful reading of the scriptures proves otherwise.

And that was my question number 1…how do you explain that taking a literal interpretation of 7, 24 hour days in the creation story.

I don’t feel that you have answered my question number 1, but I will not continue to ask you to answer it."

And yet you posted a quote from it in your first post on this thread…hmmmmmmm???

See above in djconklin’s first post on this thread:

And just so I don’t have to come back here later and answer your evasion of this point, I’ll address it now.

The thread “Why is sunday instead of saturday the sabboth?” closed with the last post at 10:51am.

Your first post on this thread was at 12:46pm.

That is just about two hours later, and yet you say that you never saw the post you quoted above…again, hmmmmmmmmm???

Hi

Thank you very much.

It interests me now.

Jesus was a Jew and he observed Sabbath on Saturday. In my opinion, if Catholics Protestats JWs follow Jesus, then they are ordained to observe it on Saturday, it is very much in the OTBible to observe the sanctity of Sabbath. If they don’t do it; they don’t follow Jesus, very simple.

Peace; no disrepct intended to anybody.

Regards

Vigorously cleaning my glasses!

So, I responded to it and yet you complained?!? [Shaking head in disbelief.]

I responded to it–you just didn’t like the response. You’ll have to deal with it.

Thank you for your response djconklin! I was just confused that your denial, evasion, and unwillingness to comment on what the scriputres say regarding those two days of creation, was actually a response.

I can deal with the evident fact that you don’t take the creation story literally…I was under the impression that you did…my mistake.

Now that I understand your response, I can deal with it just fine!

Thank you again!

God bless all!!!

I began to realize that early on.
You can come back when you decide you don’t know everything and are prepared to discuss things like a mature adult.
