So I’m single, and haven’t masturbated in a couple of months. However, I notice that if I have not ejaculated for two weeks or more [other ejaculations are nocturnal emissions] I develop an occasional pain/ache in the pelvic region. This is nothing debilitating, but it is uncomfortable, and I notice that it only occurs when I’ve gone a while without ejaculating, and is relieved once I’ve had a nocturnal emission. Has anyone else experienced this? It doesn’t feel particularly healthy.

Excuse my scepticism but too many people try to justify masturbation by saying they need to do it for health reasons.
What you are experiencing is either just in your head or some medical problem that you only think is related to not masturbating.

There is a legit concern. This is why he should go see a Dr and should do weekly exams on himself, the Dr can help with this as well.

See a Urologist, your physical pain (“if it continues”) is “not” caused by the mental and spiritual resolve of your abstinence.

I don’t think you’ll have health problems from abstinence, so get this checked out by a doctor. We know you won’t have problems from abstinence because we know Jesus was abstinent and didn’t.
And DON’T LET THIS BE A SOURCE OF TEMPTATION.

Seek medical advice. Even if this was a forum moderated by doctors, you should still seek face-to-face medical treatement.

Go to a priest for the health of your soul-leave the health of the body to a MD.

When I was a younger man, I often experienced the type of pain described. It turned out to be a refractory infection of my prostrate gland which would clear up with medication. After a bit the infection would flare up again. Masturbation would ease things for a while because it was like the now outdated treatment for inflamed prostate consisting of prostrate massage. Like they say, see a urologist.🙂

The world calls this “blue balls”.

It may be a medical problem. If it’s causing you a lot of pain and discomfort, go see a doctor about it. It may be what the above poster had.

As for me, I get this feeling after kissing my girlfriend, or sometimes just being in her presence. Yes, it hurts. And yes, masturbation alleviates the pain. However, it’s not worth it.

We know you won’t have problems from abstinence because we know Jesus was abstinent and didn’t.
How do you know if Jesus had pains or not? Do you really think that is something they would include in the gospel?

I was thinking “medical problems”. I suppose we can’t know if he had actual pain from abstinence, but the OP should still get this checked out by a doctor.

This is coming from personal experience: it is likely to be because your body is accustomed to regular masturbation. This happened to me. After suffering with the sin of masturbation, I tried to stop. After a while, the temptation (and “pain”) became too great and I failed. However, the periods in between engaging in the sin increased until it no longer hurt anymore. Perhaps suddenly stopping masturbation is causing the pain. However, I’m not recommending resuming masturbation, but merely a possible cause. I would recommend you offer up your sufferings and use them as penance during this Lenten season.

You: “Whenever I don’t masturbate, I get pains”
Doctor: “Hmm, seems like you should masturbate and then come see me if the problem persists”
You: “No.”
Doctor: “Why not?”
You: “The creator of the heavens and the earth, designer of the cosmos, author to the physical laws - will send me to a burning pit in the earth, where my immaterial soul will be tortured for time immemorial”
Doctor: “I can’t see how I can possibly fit my medical diagnosis into that paradigm of thought.”
You: “No worries, I’ll just offer the suffering up to Jesus.”
Balls ache for rest of life

The solution is staring you right in the face. If sex didn’t feel like a physical necessity, the human population would never have made it this far. If you need to wank, do so. And if God comes down from heaven and provides you with sound evidence that masturbation is bad for you,* then *you can stop. But if you’re hearing it simply from men and reading it in ancient books from near-illiterate, iron-age Palestine, you may want to rethink your position.

And we should seriously take advice from a person who claims that baby-eating is a religion?

I can’t see any good reason why you shouldn’t (given, first, that you understand the satirical nature of my alleged religious status). You’ll have to assess my claims on their own merits, and not on what you assume is the intellectual orientation of someone who jokes about eating babies for a religious practice.

Then let’s see what you are recommending the OP to do: engage in mortal sin. This is advice that can not be taken seriously. You are vehemently anti-Catholic, explaining your attempts to drawn the OP from the faith and into sin.

I don’t think you have anything to worry about as I still get these too.

If you are concerned about your physical condition, I would ask a Doctor.

I haven’t noticed any real physical pains, but I am new to chastity, only been really actually trying since last August, but I’ve had longer and longer periods of purity. Psychologically, for me it’s been a lot harder, but gotten much better as the months have wore on.

What I do feel like is that I;ve just been fed lies my whole life from mainstream culture that wants me to believe that sexual pleasure is a really awesome toy, and as necessary as urinating or breathing. For years, I felt like it was an endless cycle of having a near daily orgasm (usually more, ack, too much information, sorry!), never seemed to end, the lust never went away. I was never satisfied and “chasing after wind”. But now I;m more free than I ever have been (though modern psycho-therapy might call me “sexual-anorexic”, HA!). I might have been a worst case scenario in a lot of ways too.

Anyway, no real advice…just venting…

One thing that always puzzled me about this whole topic is that the male reproductive organs were clearly designed to function in a certain manner just like the arm was designed to bend at the elbow and wrist, or the leg to bend at the knee and ankle.

For the sake of agruement, is it physically healthy to never bend the arm at the elbow? If a person sits on the sofa for ten years and watches television his legs will atrophy and lose function. The health of every single other body part is dependent upon it being used as God intended.

Here is the problem that people are dealing with today when it comes to sexual temptation. In earlier times, people reached puberty at a much later age, usually in their mid to late teens. These days it is more like the early teens and sometimes even sooner. To compound the problem, people are not marrying until often in their late twenties or even well into their thirties!

That is a very long time for a healthy set of reproductive organs to go without functioning as God designed. Personally, I believe that marriage is the solution to this problem of sexual temptation. Scripture says that it is better to marry than to burn (with lust).

Oddly, your position is a lot closer to the truth than many find comfortable!

Life with “blue balls” is not the answer.

But please allow me to rephrase part of the above: “If you need to marry, do so.”

God has already given solid evidence through the Holy Scriptures. It is better to marry than to burn (with lust). What more evidence do we need?
