Additionally, the Church of Christ is not immune from such crimes
Yes, I agree all church has such crimes because all churches are made of people, including the Catholic church. So this presumption the the Catholic church if infallible and therefore the final authority on all things Christ does not hold water!

The Church is only infallible on issues of faith and morals, and even then only when the Pope chooses to be. It’s only been used a handful of times since the concept was defined and outlined by Vatican I, mostly for Marian doctrine and defining an all male priesthood.

So, the Church does not claim immunity via infallibility for the horrendous, regrettable crimes od her clergy.

medwigel . . .
The Catholic church for centuries has branded Mary Magdalene as a prostitute, yet there is no where in the Bible where it ever says that.
Church polices were put in place that transferred pedophile priests from one parish to another. It would be one thing if this only happened in one state but it happened in over 10 countries; that’s a coordinated effort on the part of the church.
In the 1940s and 1950s young unwed mothers who were sent to convents had their babies taken away and sold without their permission or under corrosion.

Do any of these situation seem in line with what God would want?
Are these the actions that would have God say, “well done my good and faithful servant”?
.

You may be confusing immpeccability with infallibility.

When St. Peter gets opposed to his face by St. Paul for kowtowing to some of the Jewish faction does THAT mean he doesn’t officially TEACH correctly and does away with the letters of St. Peter?

When St. Paul does the SAME THING (kowtowing to some of the Jewish faction concerning Old Covenant law), does THAT mean he doesn’t officially TEACH correctly and does away with the letters of St. Paul?

medwigel. I have no idea what happened to you and you do not need to discuss any of that here (maybe some Catholic was just rude to you. Who knows?).

That type if response seems irrational to me (if not born out of ignorance of what Catholics teach).

Imagine if some Catholic Christian got on here and said . . .
. . .“Your Bible interpretation is wrong because Jimmy Swaggert was a Bible Christian and an adulterer.”
That just wouldn’t make any sense. It would be an irrational response.

But I suggest prayerfully looking at the Church that Jesus founded–the Catholic Church in a new light.

Don’t leave Jesus because of Judas.

Peter denied Jesus three times and still was the first Vicar of Christ and leader of the Universal Church
And this is why God is so wonderful. He can see past your flaws and still use you to do great works.
David was an adulterer and murderer, but God said he was still a man after His own heart.
So again, God can use you despite your mistakes.

I started reading the Bible for myself and found a church where the focus was placed on the Bible and God’s Word and teachings and not on traditions of men that do not have a proper foundation in the Word.
When I finally read the Bible for myself, I found out that certain things were just not true, like Mary Magdalene was never a prostitute.
I decided I would not be lead astray by false doctrine, like saying it’s ok to only take the Body and not the Blood then call it communion.

It means that Peter, dispite being the leader and first pope of the Catholic church could still be wrong. All men can be wrong, including the pope (Pope Benedict made a vow to serve God and the church and broke it and the Bible says it’s better not to vow than to make a vow and break it Ecclesiastes 5:4-8), this is why Christian belief and doctrine should be based on an infallible source, which is the Bible. And as such, we should follow the instructions for communion as it is laid out in the Bible, not based on assumptions as you eluded to in an earlier post.

Nope, not a heretic, I just don’t believe in doctrine that is not Biblical.
Oh, of course you are.

And the Bible doesn’t give you the Church. The Church gives you the Bible.

 silly utraquist…
