Pajamas at Mass

At the school where I work, they are always proclaiming “pajama day” as a reward for something or other. I won’t take part in it. No one needs to see me in my PJs except my own household.

thank-you, I hate it when schools do this and have never let my kids wear PJ when this is proclaimed. It sounds like a joke and it is tough to answer a question or what was said in a mass without having been there. Maybe the the OP should ask the priest if he was serious instead on CAF.

Couple of typos too many - not sure what you are trying to say here.

We all have an obligation to be as reverant and as respectful as possible during Mass no matter what anyone else in the congregation is wearing. If you have an issue with the dress code, the best person to discuss it with is the pastor.

That really doesn’t matter. Pajamas are pajamas and they are not suitable for proper attire when attending Mass. If people wore PJ’s to a wedding or a funeral or any other secular formal event the question would not be whether they were modest but it is possible that they may not be permitted to enter if not properly dressed.

Reminds me of a co-worker that showed up to work late after the time change. Told her boss she forgot to change her clocks. She wasn’t happy when I said that not changing her clocks would have made her an hour early, not late. And that maybe she should try that excuse again in the spring.

Well, that’s not what Clem was insinuating. What happened at your place of work actually happened it seems. Whereas Clem is suggesting that the whole thread is a gag - in other words, made up. Sometimes you just never know.

That’s kind of where I sit on the whole thing. In the list of mass complaints, this one really takes the cake and strains even my “internet” suspension of disbelief…

Yes, it happened. In other words the woman lied about not setting her clocks back, thinking she could pull one over on her boss.

Well, the irony is, we have outrage directed at a priest and parish concerning an anonymous and possibly hypothetical posting on an internet forum.

If the OP is not perpetrating a hoax…These kinds of threads serve no purpose, They invariably lead to unproductive criticism of the Church. No offense to any particular poster, but I believe the mamy of these posts are manufactured situations.

I do see guys occasionally in pajama bottoms, in the market, etc… It is not common, but seems to be acceptable these days. I don’t recall seeing a female dressed similarly, except for halloween. I was quite surprised at an airport recently to look up from my reading, and a college age man was sitting with a friend waiting to board. He was wearing only thermal underwear, socks and shoes. It was not immodest, per se. The sleeves were long. The legs were long. I was just surprised. The airline seemed fine with it. Not sure what sort of fashion statement it was. But then I thought back to his age, and figured, his laundry may have all been dirty, and that was his last thing to wear.

I tend to think that many of them are a bit colored by personal bias as well… those who view their fellow parishoners as lax in discipline and overly-eager to dress inappropriately for mass will certainly see any joking situation as an actual call to action to dress inappropriately.
