Why are Muslims so obsessed with the Palestinian-Israeli issue? Muslims oppress other people and commit atrocities against each other and kill each other all over the world all the time in other countries. Why does the Palestinian issue gain so much attention but these other ones don’t? Is it just because Jews are supposed to be “dhimmis” and it is an insult that “apes and pigs” (Quran’s term for Jews and Christians) could be more powerful and conquer Muslims?

Sister Amy, if you don’t know the answer to a question about Islam, it’s always acceptable to just not post, rather than leave a smart-alecky comment. 😉
 
I know perfectly well why Muslims are “obsessed” as you put it with the crisis facing the Palestinians. There is an answer to that question. But there are some built-in assumptions in your original post. It sounds more to me like a “let’s talk about how evil Muslims are” thread instead of a thread that sincerely asks why Muslims care about their brothers and sisters in Palestine.

Please tell me which it is… because when over 800 of my brothers and sisters have been killed, I’m not going to waste my time with people who want to mock them.

Saddam’s regime was responsible for killing over 1 million Muslims.

Are you glad he was executed thanks to US intervention?

First because Palestine hosts Muslims Third Sacred Mosque, and second because its an Arabic nation. :cool:

I don’t like the conflict. Time and again, peace talks and cries for peace. But what happens? Nothing. The peace is always temporal, yet the media always declares its a new day and it’ll change the Middle East. It won’t.

I mean, just think of the Church where it’s said Jesus’ tomb lies. Look at all the conflict there over leadership and sweeping and what happens - and these are Christians fighting! What is even more ridiculous is that a ladder on the roof of the Church has not been taken down for hundreds of years simply because no one can say who can take it down!

Really, the conflicts are just stupid, yet they’re also very serious because civilians are being killed. I believe the only way peace will be achieved is through prayer.

When Palestine was split up into Israel and Jordan, the muslims were livid that their arch-enemy would be controlling a part of the Middle East.

I don’t think the muslims fear that the Jews with conquer them… I think the muslims just don’t want to be neighbours with the Jews. Their beloved prophet Muhammed would be spinning in his grave, and he is not even the first Arab to hate the Jews… that hatred goes all the way back to Ishmael and Isaac.

Having said that, I do think the Israeli force is excessive; It reminds me of the violence against Hezbollah in Lebanon back in July 2006. But I don’t have any solutions; “Blessed are the peacemakers” I try to remind myself.

Just curious , if Zionists destroy the Chruch related to Jesus (p) , still Chrisitans will think that it’s their religious duty to support the Jews ?
 
Do they truly Want peace? It is quite possible for Both countries to co-exist as neighbors in a very peaceful way but it seems that both sides do not want this.😦

To me in the United States with our slanted agenda biased news reporters (can ya tell I don’t trust nor like our news media?:rolleyes: ) it seems like both sides have a mentality of “Last Man Standing” wins. (I pray I am wrong).

I was reading an article yesterday about Iran in which Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was quoted as saying (I’m paraphrasing here): If Germany was responsible for the Holocaust, and if the modern state of Israel was created to attone for that evil, then why should Palestinians or anybody in the Middle East have to pay for it? They weren’t responsible for the genocide of the Jews.

I’m not a big fan of Ahmadinejad or the repressive government which he represents but I thought this was a reasonable point – on the surface of it at least. They feel that Israel was imposed on them by European powers in response to something that happened in Europe.

I know who put Saddam in power. And I know that he wasn’t put in power because he was a good Muslim. It was precisely because he wasn’t much interested in Islam that made him so attractive to Western puppetmasters.

That doesn’t mean that Americans are evil, or that Jews are evil. I am full confident that if people knew what Saddam was going to do, the terror and instability he would bring to the region, that they would have found someone else.

But it is really silly in my mind to blame Muslims for Saddam. Which makes him more or less irrelevant to the discussion.

There hasn’t been peace. Not in 60 years. There might have been, at times, a cessation of fighting, but there has never been peace. There cannot be peace until there is justice. And there cannot be justice until the rights of both sides are respected. That means not only the rights of the Israelis, but the rights of the Palestinians as well.

Only 800 were killed? You must just be counting the ones killed by Jews, and not the thousands upon thousands killed by other Muslims.

This is absurd. Palestine was divvied up in the 40’s, part of it becoming Israel. The rest of it wasn’t Jordan. Gaza and the West Bank were occupied in the 60’s. More recently Gaza was technically evacuated of IDF troops and Israeli settlers, however the population there has been strangled ever since. The West Bank is still occupied.

There were Jews living in Palestine before Zionists started moving them there. They lived in peace with the Christians and the Jews there. Right, Christians, Jews, and Muslims, all in the same place. The immigration of Jews into Palestine began to cause tension, riots and conflicts, terrorism even. Not only from Arabs, but from Jews as well. The Arabs, understandably, were upset that they were systematically being expelled from their homes!!!

I would like to inform you that the only reason Muhammad and the Muslims migrated to Yathrib (Medina) is because they were invited there by a community of Jews. And that they lived side-by-side with those Jews for years, many of whom became Muslim. The animosity between Arabs and Israelis is based on modern conflict–it is based on the immigration of Jews to Palestine, the expulsion of Palestinians from their homes, the creation of the state of Israel on Palestinian land, and the subsequent sufferings of the Palestinian people. It has nothing to do with religion, believe it or not.

Of course the force is excessive. And yet, just like in Lebanon in 2006, both sides will lose. One side loses life, the other side loses public opinion. The war in Gaza will only strengthen Hamas, just like the war in Lebanon strengthened Hezbollah. Israel’s neighbors will only hate it even more. The whole affair is the exact opposite of working for peace.

More than 800, and I am talking about the Muslims in Gaza only. That is what the thread is about.

I haven’t lately heard a toll of Israeli deaths. The last one I heard was that 7 soldiers and 1 civilian had been killed, and that 4 of those soldier deaths were due to misfires by Israeli soldiers. If the IDF can’t even stop from killing its own men, who is going to believe they’re making an effort to stop from killing Palestinian women and children, or international volunteers from the UN or the Red Cross.
