A very intelligent, and well educated, friend of mine once justified his enjoyment of the “Da Vinci Code” by saying “it is a work of fiction”, but then he continued that Brown’s work “is based on fact”. What!

By including real names, objects and places in the novel, Brown tries to give the impression that the this is a historical novel when it fact it there is no ‘fact’ to his work. He has distorted reality to disseminate disinformation about the Church. This is a very sophisticated type of propaganda that many are predisposed to buy into.

It always seems odd to me that, in this “enlightned” age we live in with the internet and almost instant news, so many people believe anything that puts somebody else in a bad light, whether it be the Church, their neighbors, the government, etc. The believe this stuff without any basis or facts whatsoever. Even when the story is proven wrong later on, they still believe. Pray for all of us.

When I read the Da Vinci Code it took me about five pages to realize that nothing in the story even closley resembles reality. Even his historical accounts are out of whack. Frankly, I’m amazed that anyone buys this as based on fact, Catholic or not.

BTW, the characters that represent the Catholic Church are not demonized in this book. In fact, they turn out to be a red herring.

The complete fantasy of The DaVinci Code is now being debunked on tv. The History Channel did a two-hour program that completely eviscerated it. Conclusive documentary proof exists to show that the Priory of Scion myth was concocted in Paris in 1956.

The sad reality, however, is that millions of people will continue to believe it.

The Internet is as much a tool for deception as it is a fact-gathering resource.

What alarms me is how many cradle, been to Mass every Sunday since they were born, Catholic School Catholics don’t even know why it matters whether the D-Code’s true or not! (my family comes to mind). I’m the one who went to public school and only relatively recently came back to the Church-and I’m the family apologist! Sometimes I think that I’m at an advantage and that’s sad.

Don’t know about the rest of you, but I’ve yet to hear a sermon preached or seen a flyer handed out at my parish on the subject. Maybe they’re waiting for the right time (although the book’s been out for years). They should take this very seriously.

There was recently a programme on UK television which very effectively de-bunked the Da Vinci code.
Strange how people will think the Catholic Church has lied to them for 2,000 years but don’t think that Dan Brown has lied for the last three years!
There will always be this sort of conspiracy rubbish, like that NASA never actually sent a man to the moon, but the sad thing is that apparently some catholics believe this (Da Vinci Code) may be true.

Yeah I watched that (if it was the one on Channel 5) it was suprisingly good for Ch 5. The only bit that I was quite concerned about in The DaVinci Code was the painting and the fact that John looked just like May Magdalene, however the art historian completely destroyed that argument. There was never any doubt in my mind that The DaVinci code was false, mainly because there were some small facts that he had used that were completely wrong, like being a monk of Opus Dei etc.

I saw an earlier programme about the Da Vinci code - rather rubbishy, but the art historian on that one said you need to compare the St. John in the Last Supper painting with others that Leonardo did of St. John (absolutely not questioned as St. John) and the other one they showed looked very effeminate too…
