In fact, it was only introduced into the Catholic creed in the next year.
I can’t let this stupid statement go unchallenged.

What “creed” is this “papal infallibilty” in, SoonerServant??

The Apostles’ Creed? Or is it the Nicene Creed?

You really are looking foolish here.

Wow, you guys think you really own it? How sad. Btw, you keep forgeting the other word in your name, Roman. And, the “church” Jesus founded was not called Catholic in the beginning. This was added later. Sometime after the ROMAN’S acceted it as the true religion. You know, the empire in control when Jesus was crucified. The one persecuting the christians. So plz say the whole name when talking about yourselves. It makes me giggle…and cry a lil.
Quit avoiding the questions, SS, or quit the thread.

Where to even begin. . .???
I don’t feel like looking for my post right now, but here is a statement from one of the Elders of a church of Christ in Arkansas. “While the Popes claim infallibility, this is actually a very new idea. “Pope Pius IX called the Vatican Council in 1869 for the express purpose of declaring himself infallible, against a very stubborn opposition in the hierarchy” (Catholicism Against Itself, vol. II). In fact, it was only introduced into the Catholic creed in the next year. It appears that the idea that the Pope is infallible is some sort of latter day revelation. If this is the case then according to II Peter 1:3; Galatians 1:8,9 the idea of papal infallibility should be wholly rejected.”
I’d love to respond here to the facts you have presented. Could you please enumerate them with their primary sources? As in, Fact # 1) the Elder from Arkansas is an expert on Catholicism. . .you know, just list the facts so we can respond. It’s hard to tell which are your facts and which aren’t.
Hm, just found out he’s infallilable and decided to mention it to someone? Interesting, very interesting. Apparently, the supernatural abilities of the Pope were still being revealed.cough heresy Maybe next he’ll learn how to fly or shoot lazers from his eyes. This was the 2000 lb. elephant I was talking about.
Do you even know what infalliblity is?

We’re laughing right there with you, Sooner!

When you’d like to continue a discussion on the papacy, let us know! OR. . .if you’d like to discuss the terms “catholic” or “church,” they’d be great thread starters, too! I’d love to participate in those!

Sorry, I’m reading something and it’s the Nicene Constit… something or other.

Wow, is this a joke?

"The Church’s relationship with the Muslims. ‘The plan of salvation also includes those who acknowledge the Creator, in the first place amongst whom are the Muslims; these profess to hold the faith of Abraham, and together with us they adore the one, merciful God, mankind’s judge on the last day’ " (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1994, p.223).

This is one of those “infallible” decisions the Pope decided to allow. Any comments.

Whatever you’re trying to type, it is NOT a “creed” of the Catholic Church.

There are only two creeds and both of them are used by mainstream Protestant denominations. You were wrong, Isaac.

I accept your apology.

Hey, Isaac, remember this: context, context, context.

This is NOT an “infallible” teaching of any pope, Isaac.

Try it sometime when you are reading, it will make a world of difference in your postings.

Where is that ‘hades’ source you claimed on THREE postings that means “the grave?”

Aw, but isn’t it? “The Roman Pontiff cannot err when defining matters of faith or morals.” So, the Pope is unaware of this and had no say in it. Btw, if you’ll read into the history of the Vatican Council a little more, you will notice that the definition of papal infallibility was changed before it was voted on. Thus, it was not known for all ages. THREAD CLOSED. Also, why would it need to be voted on if it was known. Apparatly, it or the definition was not mentioned to a few bishops. Oops.

The definition before it was to include infallibility on issues pertaining to history and science. I wonder why they didn’t know?

Also, I’d like to hear a Catholic view of Pope Liberius. Come on, you knew I’d bring him up eventually.

Are you joking? I know the differece between creed and constitution. Are you telling me that what is said in the Nicene is not believed by the Catholics. That it does not hold authority in it’s statements and claims. That, if something better comes along, it will be replaced. That, the Holy Spirit, which guides your church made an “oopsy” by allowing something like this to be written? To be taught among all the believers. Does it not hold authority pertaining to your beliefs?

What is your source for this? That Arkansas Elder?

Where did you get this? From the internet? Posted by some Catholic basher, ergo, it must be true???

If you know the difference, then why did you claim that the Church put infallibility into one of its creeds?

It is YOUR goofy allegation, Isaac. And like everything else you claim: totally without merit or common sense.

Where in ANY posting by me did I say this?

You claimed it, Isaac, you back it up.

You really must be very young: you have little sense of the common meanings of words.

I told you the Church has two creeds. I asked you which one is it that you claim the Church put in the “infallibility doctrine.”

Your reply was "Sorry, I’m reading something and its the Nicene Constit…something or other."

Sounds REALLY definitive there, Isaac!

Nicene Creed:

We believe (I believe) in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, and born of the Father before all ages. (God of God) light of light, true God of true God. Begotten not made, consubstantial to the Father, by whom all things were made. Who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven. And was incarnate of the Holy Ghost and of the Virgin Mary and was made man; was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate, suffered and was buried; and the third day rose again according to the Scriptures. And ascended into heaven, sits at the right hand of the Father, and shall come again with glory to judge the living and the dead, of whose Kingdom there shall be no end. And (I believe) in the Holy Ghost, the Lord and Giver of life, who proceeds from the Father (and the Son), who together with the Father and the Son is to be adored and glorified, who spoke by the Prophets. And one holy, catholic, and apostolic Church. We confess (I confess) one baptism for the remission of sins. And we look for (I look for) the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen."

Creed- an accepted system of religious or other belief.

In a summed up version of what you believe, this would not be there. However, in a detailed account of all the things the Catholic Church accepts and believes, the writings I posted would most definitely be there. Including, the one about the Muslims.
