In what we learn about the sacrament of ordination for Catholics is that the Pope is in fact equal to all other bishops, for he is ordained a bishop, and becoming Pope gives him no extra sacramental character beyond what all who are members of the Episcopacy have. The Pope and all other bishops are entirely equal, yet, as has already been pointed out, it was Peter who was called upon to support his fellow Apostle in this ministry. It seems, that this should be a starting point in understanding firstness.

Peter had been in Rome since the year 42,according to Eusebius and Jerome.

It is interesting that Eusebius makes no mention of St Peter being the first infallible supreme Pope of Rome.

That is a bit of a semantic - that Eusebius does or does not mention a matter does not mean that it was or was not understood.

At best the silence is inconclusive.

Good point I one hundred percent agree. However it still does not prove the Orthodox understanding of First among equals to be correct.

Although Fr Ambrose (Russian Orthodox) and I had our disagreements, we were completely in agreement on the following

Because the jurisdiction is under the respective Patriarch. As I understand it to be, first among equals means that the Pope has primacy of honor, but each Church is under the jurisdiction of the respective Patriarch for that Church. For example, the Church of Rome is under the canon law and jurisdiction of the Pope, but the Orthodox Church is under the Jurisdiction of the Moscow Patriarchate.

so then what was the point of St. Clement Of Rome writing to the Corinthian Church?
