You may have saved my Catholic faith.In what we learn about the sacrament of ordination for Catholics is that the Pope is in fact equal to all other bishops, for he is ordained a bishop, and becoming Pope gives him no extra sacramental character beyond what all who are members of the Episcopacy have. The Pope and all other bishops are entirely equal, yet, as has already been pointed out, it was Peter who was called upon to support his fellow Apostle in this ministry. It seems, that this should be a starting point in understanding firstness.
