Parallel universes really do exist, according to a mathematical discovery by Oxford scientists described by one expert as “one of the most important developments in the history of science”.

The parallel universe theory, first proposed in 1950 by the US physicist Hugh Everett, helps explain mysteries of quantum mechanics that have baffled scientists for decades, it is claimed.

In Everett’s “many worlds” universe, every time a new physical possibility is explored, the universe splits. Given a number of possible alternative outcomes, each one is played out - in its own universe.

hmmmm. interesting.

Just a mathematical way to try to explain God.

Scientific finding, eh? OK, where’s the data from the experiment?

That mathematics can come up with a system that incorporates parallel universes is one thing. The scientific statement that they actually exist is quite another.

Blessings,

Gerry

Parallel universes exist
I have to believe this is true. If it’s not a parallel universe, then where are all of my missing socks matchers?

Mathematics is an axiomatic discipline- a “proof” is not a “proof” in the common use of the word, is simply means that the theorem itself is logical and works out correctly. A bad axiom can be “proved”.

This has been discussed on other boards, it is simply bad reporting. Copenhagen and hidden-variable explanations of Quantum Mechanics are not dead. Basically, this is an accomplishment for the many-universe school of “what the heck does quantum mechanics mean” and it helps them to express their theory in a more coherent way.

Coherence does not mean correspondence because math is not an experimental science.

Ever seen the women = trouble math joke?

No, please share it.

by the way, this is a JOKE, a stupid joke please do not give me a time out for it mods… I’m using it to show a point here

You’ll notice that it says, “Until the universe is OBSERVED it doesn’t 'christallize” (spelling mine) into a reality…"

Guess who “I AM” the only VALID observer of His creation?

Why is He the only valid observer? Because He is the only one with the required “existence” to do so.

That’s very clever…!

It IS the same “logic” used by the “scientists” though, of course.

Thanks for the algebra,… I shall use it sparingly. 🙂

Well, now this is far more than anecdotal.

My sock matches have also disappeared. We have looked high and low and have taken apart the dryer and the washer. They are not there.

Logical Conclusion: Socks missing + socks missing = someone in a parallel niverse cannot figure out why they have so many extras. 😃 Their conclusion is is socks arise from nothing.

Very nice. Accurate too. I particularly the intermediate result of

women = money^2

This has been rigorously investigated by many organizations for nearly 2000 years. The Church has made a determination as to what happens to missing socks.

Demons take them. :yup:

😛

These demons really know how to hit where it hurts.

But why do demons need socks- they don’t even have feet.

Fundamentalist answer to the question: God takes them away to test our faith

Catholic answer to the question: don’t worry about it, put on one sock and offer it up

Anthony Rizzi goes into all the nonsense of reality doesn’t become real until observed in his book The Science Before Science.

But if it isn’t nonsense, then I AM being the only valid observer…well, that’s a brilliant observation.

But wait, maybe making the observation that it’s a brilliant observation negates the whole thing…

Akkkk! Stupid quantum mechanics.

But it is well known that when they take material form, that form has certain quasi-caprine abnormalities which a respectable demon might well wish to cover up by a judiciously abstracted pair of socks.

I’m pretty sure there are like 6 or 7 prevailing theories I read in one of Gibbons’ books…I think it was the Schroedinger’s Kittens book, of which the many universes theory is one.

I don’t think they are trying to explain God. They just go where the math takes them. Since this arena is inside of time and space and God has His “being” outside of time and space, there’s no way to connect those dots.

It is merely attempting to explain His handiwork. It is a noble pursuit. God built the “need to know” into us.

They’re not trying to explain God, but they are trying to explain the complexity of the universe without God being necessary. The math says that with our universe, there’s not enough time or “stuff” to have created life. But if you have an infinite number of universes - voila! Now you have all the time and stuff you need for one of them to have randomly produced life.
