Sad topic 😦

But I heard of someone getting possessed or something because their parent cursed them.

I was wondering - does this sort of thing (I don’t mean possession, but at least obsession) happen if a parent does a particular curse, like in the occult, or can it happen even if the parent says something out of anger, not intending it as a curse, but still involving words like ā€œhellā€ or ā€œdevilā€?

Sorry if this is a troubling topic… I’m just wondering. thank you!

(Fr Gabriel Amorthe was the official Exorcist of the Vatican in Rome until he retired, and is the lifetime honorary president and founder of the world international association of catholic exorcist priests)
He has two books of his experiences out, and he has written, that possession happens because of :
Involvement in the occult

Or

Seriously truly grave beyond the normal, mortal sins,

Or

The situation you describe above.

There are no such thing as curses.
According to Fr Gabriel Amorthe, the retired Vatican exorcist and president of the International Association. Of catholic exorcist priests, there is such a thing as curses. It one of the reasons people can become possessed, even innocent people,
He has two books of his experiences written.
He said it is rare but can happen.

The occult, do use curses.

God is stronger than any chain of satan.

Anyone who would purposefully curse their own child probably has enough demonic activity around them that it would probably be difficult to discern what particular action caused or contributed to the demonic influence on their household.

No such thing as spells, hexes, or curses, otherwise all the ā€œforcesā€ of evil would be using them all the time. ā€œThe devil made me do itā€ is never a defense.🤷

You are correct to say that ā€œthe devil made me do itā€ is never a defense. We have free will, and when we are tempted and decide to submit to the temptation it is our choice.

There is a supernatural world. Of course, Jesus is Victor, but we are in time and have choices to make that hopefully, will be righteous.

When people open themselves to the fallen angels to look for answers or power of some kind, they are rejecting the Lord who is all good and deserves all our love and trust.

So, when people ā€œmake roomā€ for evil by such choices, we hope they change their minds and look to prayer and sacraments to repent. If they do not they are in for a rough ride.

Yes, they do exist, as already mentioned.

If someone tries to curse someone else and that person is a practicing Christian/faithful person for example, they may be protected by God against anything happening to them. That is something to consider.

Curses only have effect if people believe in them. The superstitious fear of being cursed fulfils itself.

So where did you ā€œhearā€ this?
I think it was somewhere on the forum a long time ago… to be honest I don’t remember. I think it was online. I know not very reliable. šŸ™‚ I’m just wondering in general.

Is this the same Fr. Amorthe who has claimed to have performed over 70,000 exorcisms? Let’s see…at 1 per day, it would require 191 years to complete such a task. Two a day would take 95 years. Unless Fr. Amorthe is several hundred years old, I think that there is a lot of hyperbole in what he says.

There is no such thing as a curse.

but what if the person doesn’t view it superstitiously, rather links it to the involvement of demons that someone invited in? I’m talking about demonic activity only. Not any superstitions.

the devil doesn’t ā€œmakeā€ us do things, but sadly there are people who invite him in through particular actions and that is linked to greater temptation/demonic obsession or even possession. This is well documented in the Catholic Church and there are exorcists today. Their first job is to figure out if the cause is natural (in which case they send the person to a doctor), or supernatural. The supernatural has certain signs that are very particular.

Ok by ā€œcursesā€ I don’t mean that some words actually have an effect like that, on their own.

I just mean when people open up doors to demons and anything that follows is due to that

apparently…sometimes (rarely) parents open up doors to demons to harm their children, which is scary I agree

but I was wondering if this only happens if there’s a particular occult thing they do… or if the demons are already more involved in the child’s life just through the parent saying things like ā€œgo to the devilā€ or ā€œgo to hellā€ when they’re angry, not meaning it that way perhaps.

my question is - if a parent says something like this to a child, when they’re angry, might demons ā€œcome afterā€ the child more, in terms of temptations, etc?

I mean in terms of increased demonic activity, not as if words have ā€œmagicalā€ effects in them. If a person turns to the devil of course we can expect that the devil would have more power in the person’s life because they opened that door. My question is if parents ever do this to their children, and if that only happens if the parents are occultists, or if it also happens if they say certain things relating to the demons when they’re angry.

A lot of people don’t believe in demons or demonic activity either. Children are all innocent and no one human being can ā€œput a curseā€ on a chilld. That’s the truth. Otherwise this could be said of every child born with a terminal disease. Very tragic and sad, but wrong to say they’re ā€œcursedā€

I see what you’re trying to say now, Monica.

I would think that the person would have to be involved in the occult in some way and by doing so, would have had to ā€œinviteā€ something negative into their home, in order for something to happen to their family. That’s what I think.
