I see, well thanks for the information. I can imagine it would be harsh for some parishes then. Even with this collection the Swedish Catholic Church is underfunded, it only has some 110,000 members, i would estimate not even 30% of them is eligible paying the tax.Emedan:
There is no equivalent in the US. The government is not involved in any way with collection or distributing of revenue to churches.The Swedish IRS just helps with automatic membership fee collections which is set to 1% of monthly income.
All church revenue is solely based on individuals voluntarily contributing to the church.
In some cases that contribution can be claimed as a deduction on income taxes, but so can any charitable contribution.
