So I have been porn-free, as well as masturbation-free for over 6 months now, but I have a couple questions. Quite a while ago I confessed to using pornography, but I did not confess to viewing child pornography and homosexual pronography. Are these two different sins I should confess separately, or were they forgiven when I confessed to using pornography?

Thanks in advance, and God Bless!

Child pornography - as in prepubescent children? Yes, I think it is a separate sin to be confessed.

Please be advised that this is my personal opinion and not from any source. I would confess the child pornography separately since the nature of that sin involves child abuse. If you view such material you would not only subject yourself to willing adults who cannot behave themselves but to the abuse of innocent minors.

As far as homosexual pornography, I would mention it as well although I’m more inclined to believe that it was covered in your previous confession.

Pornography leads to some very nasty stuff. It is amazing how it takes you places you would never even imagine. It destroys the very heart of the human soul. If only more people would consider this before they even start. Thank God that you rid yourself of pornography and pray for all of those out there who are still struggling.

God bless you…teachccd

I believe pornography among adults would include homosexual pornography. But child pornography is a different matter, it is a Horrible Crime against children, the worst next to death I believe and it should be confessed. The source of this material should also be reported to the authorities.

I am of the opinion that a sexual attraction to children is demonically inspired, as is homosexuality. It isn’t natural and isn’t inspired by the Holy Spirit.

But surely the same can be said of any sin, yes?

I believe pornography among adults is different from pornography among children. I believe just the fact that you are not sure is answer enough that you need to go back to Confession.
I believe you will feel better if you did. Just my opinion.
God Bless you for your last 6 months. Keep praying to keep the devil out of you life and "The Holy Trinity"
close at all times! 👍

I’m no priest and I’ve never studied theology, but I’d liken a sexual attraction to children as a mortal sin**;** and I’ll go one step further**:** IMO full blown male homosexuality and full blown pedophilia is demon possession.

I have to say that this thread has been bothering me since I replied to it. If indeed you are looking at pornography of little children, then please report whatever websites you came across to the police. And you should go to your priest and ask what steps you should take beyond confession - counseling, or a sexual support group, something. This is not a “normal” weakness - it is child abuse.

I agree, it is possible. People downplay the possibility of demonic possession, but I definitely believe it exists.

Thank you all for your responses.

I should’ve been more specific… there was only one or two times when I viewed child pornography. I never had any sort of struggle with it. Yet, I know that it is a sin nonetheless. So, I plan on going to confession tomorrow morning.

God Bless!

So is incestual pornography something I should also confess? Or would that have been forgiven when I confessed to viewing pornography?

  1. God Himself clothed man immediately after man’s nature fell through sin.
Genesis 3:21, “Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.”
  2. Nakedness is called a shame by God in Scripture.
Exodus 32:25, “And when Moses saw that the people were naked; (for Aaron had made them naked unto their shame among their enemies:)
  3. Nakedness brings a country low.
II Chronicles 28:19, “For the LORD brought Judah low because of Ahaz king of Israel; for he made Judah naked, and transgressed sore against the LORD.”
  4. Nakedness is called a “great sin” in the Scriptures.
When Israel turned to idolatry, dancing and nakedness in Exodus 32, the Lord called their behavior a “great sin” on three occasions (Exodus 32:21,30-31).
As you see above (#3) when the country of Judah became naked they had “transgressed sore against the Lord.” No small sin here!

Isaiah 20:4, “So shall the king of Assyria lead away the Egyptians prisoners, and the Ethiopians captives, young and old, naked and barefoot, even with their buttocks uncovered, to the shame of Egypt.” What was Egypt’s shame? They were naked and their buttocks were uncovered. This is a shame to a nation.

II Samuel 10:4, “Wherefore Hanun took David’s servants, and shaved off the one half of their beards, and cut off their garments in the middle, even to their buttocks, and sent them away.” The misuse of David’s men by Hanun caused them to be greatly ashamed.
  1. The law of God commanded the covering of nakedness.
Exodus 28:42, “And thou shalt make them linen breeches to cover their nakedness; from the loins even unto the thighs they shall reach:”
Exodus 20:26, “Neither shalt thou go up by steps unto mine altar, that thy nakedness be not discovered thereon.”
  1. Even the closest of relations should hide their nakedness from each other.
Leviticus 18:6-19, “None of you shall approach to any that is near of kin to him, to uncover their nakedness: I am the LORD. The nakedness of thy father, or the nakedness of thy mother, shalt thou not uncover: she is thy mother; thou shalt not uncover her nakedness. The nakedness of thy father’s wife shalt thou not uncover: it is thy father’s nakedness. The nakedness of thy sister, the daughter of thy father, or daughter of thy mother, whether she be born at home, or born abroad, even their nakedness thou shalt not uncover. The nakedness of thy son’s daughter, or of thy daughter’s daughter, even their nakedness thou shalt not uncover: for theirs is thine own nakedness. The nakedness of thy father’s wife’s daughter, begotten of thy father, she is thy sister, thou shalt not uncover her nakedness. Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy father’s sister: she is thy father’s near kinswoman. Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy mother’s sister: for she is thy mother’s near kinswoman. Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy father’s brother, thou shalt not approach to his wife: she is thine aunt. Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy daughter in law: she is thy son’s wife; thou shalt not uncover her nakedness. Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy brother’s wife: it is thy brother’s nakedness. Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of a woman and her daughter, neither shalt thou take her son’s daughter, or her daughter’s daughter, to uncover her nakedness; for they are her near kinswomen: it is wickedness. Neither shalt thou take a wife to her sister, to vex her, to uncover her nakedness, beside the other in her life time. Also thou shalt not approach unto a woman to uncover her nakedness, as long as she is put apart for her uncleanness.”
  2. Nakedness promotes sexual sin.
Leviticus 18:20-23, “Moreover thou shalt not lie carnally with thy neighbour’s wife, to defile thyself with her. And thou shalt not let any of thy seed pass through the fire to Molech, neither shalt thou profane the name of thy God: I am the LORD. Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination. Neither shalt thou lie with any beast to defile thyself therewith: neither shall any woman stand before a beast to lie down thereto: it is confusion.”
  3. Sexual sin then leads to God’s judgment on a land or city.
Leviticus 18:24-30, “Defile not ye yourselves in any of these things: for in all these the nations are defiled which I cast out before you: And the land is defiled: therefore I do visit the iniquity thereof upon it, and the land itself vomiteth out her inhabitants. Ye shall therefore keep my statutes and my judgments, and shall not commit any of these abominations; neither any of your own nation, nor any stranger that sojourneth among you: (For all these abominations have the men of the land done, which were before you, and the land is defiled;) That the land spue not you out also, when ye defile it, as it spued out the nations that were before you. For whosoever shall commit any of these abominations, even the souls that commit them shall be cut off from among their people. Therefore shall ye keep mine ordinance, that ye commit not any one of these abominable customs, which were committed before you, and that ye defile not yourselves therein: I am the LORD your God.”
Hebrews 13:4, “Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.”

Leviticus 20:10-21, “
  1. The church is commissioned to clothe people.
Isaiah 58:7, “Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh?”
Matthew 25:36,40, “Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.”

James 2:15-16, “.”
  1. The naked who came into the presence of Christ were clothed.
John 21:7, “Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved saith unto Peter, It is the Lord. Now when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he girt his fisher’s coat unto him, (for he was naked,) and did cast himself into the sea.”
Mark 5:15, “And they come to Jesus, and see him that was possessed with the devil, and had the legion, sitting, and clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid.”
  1. Women are directed to be modest in the Scriptures.
I Timothy 2:9, “In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;”
Genesis 24:65, “For she had said unto the servant, What man is this that walketh in the field to meet us? And the servant had said, It is my master: therefore she took a veil, and covered herself.”
  1. Men are directed to be modest in the Scriptures.
Exodus 28:42, “And thou shalt make them linen breeches to cover their nakedness; from the loins even

Hey brother or sister.

i am praying for you. Just go to confession. While i don’t have the same issues, Porn is porn. I know your problems.

Keep fighting the good fight and continue to run as if running for a prize. Remember that story of Joesph and Potifer’s wife. Keep running away and never look back. You will be better for it, and once you are forgiven and penance is done. FOR GET IT. Pray to forget it. and never bring it back up, because God never will. Never tell anyone. Never tell a future wife unless she aks but dont tell her what specifically. You should not remember it at all.

Be strong and Coragous and never back down from the Devil. Fight back and make yourself the most scraesit man alive against him and make him regret attacking you.

I am praying for you STAND firm and never give an inch to the Devil .

If you want a technical answer (and please anyone correct me if I’m wrong for his sake) then all your sins were forgiven provided that you did not intentionally withhold the child porn, incest porn, or whatever it was you were watching. Because you decided to just label it under ‘porn’ for simplicity’s sake, and may not have put much thought into why or why not specifically these things should be mentioned, it would imply to me that you did not think it through all the way when you made the confession, which may have reduced your culpability in terms of withholding information or making a dishonest confession- you may not have wanted to leave anything out, but you ended up doing that because you felt just using one label for the sin and generalizing it, at the time, was acceptable. Whether or not it was doesn’t seem like the real issue. The real issue, in my opinion, seems to be about intent.

I would like to believe that all your sins were forgiven provided you made an honest confession. If you purposely left out the child porn, etc., because it would embarrass you or whatever, then the confession was likely invalidated, as you will have made a bad confession.

Although, you make a good point overall. And it gives me much to think about personally whenever I confess sexual sins, in the future. Actually, this thread has made me more self conscious, and now I’m wondering whether my past confessions were invalid because I too just confessed “internet pornography”. In all honesty, I didn’t think to seperate it into categories, and in my case, that would be hard to do, since the majority of pornography I’ve ever looked at was manga/anime style comic book porn. It’s called hentai. And in this medium of porn, the sexual things that happen are often times not realistic or something you could tie down to a real-world sin. If anything, porn of this nature is far worse than “normal” porn, because it creates scenarios and things that exist beyond the typical ‘man and woman have raunchy sex’ script that porn usually has.

Now I wonder whether, in my next confession, I need to confess anime porn or I can just call it porn like I’ve been doing. It’s not like my priest is going to know the difference, and if you ask me, it would be scandalous to try and make them understand. “Well, father, anime porn is…” is just something you don’t want to get into. Not because you’re ashamed to admit what you’ve allowed yourself to be pleasured by, but because you just want to try and save time and be practical with the confession.

In getting back to you, I think this is what you were trying to do- like me, you’ve just been trying to be practical about it. If it turns out we’re both wrong now and have always been, then we should both bring it up in our next confession. My question then, is, how do we know if the priest doesn’t say anything? Who exactly do you go to for validation that you’re right or wrong in how you’ve been confessing? If you try and explain things, no matter how you go about it, it’s scandalous to be talking about, since you’re talking about which perversion or moral disorder is worse, etc, and whether or not they’re so bad they need to be confessed individually. Who measures that outside of the confessional? And is the priest really in a position to understand, even when absolving? Should he be made to or can we just have faith that Jesus knows your heart and the complexity that comes along with classifying sins in this way, that you don’t need to be THAT specific or scrupulous, and because the priest absolved you, you were absolved, period? Afterall, Jesus wouldn’t want you to stress out over it, either, or have you leave feeling empty-handed.

This is alot of interesting food for thought, and more than that, something we need to know for the good of our soul.

I know this thread was meant for the OP, but if anyone would like to take a try at my issue specifically, I would appreciate it. 🙂

Well…in some people, it can also be a mental condition, or a traumatic experience from childhood, or that we simply don’t yet fully understand human sexuality, or that depending on what culture one belongs to ‘children’ are actively sexual - as in previous centuries when girls where married and having children at 12! We would be horrified now! Yet, it was normal and still is in many parts of the world…it is not in-human nor abnormal if it has generally been the norm throughout history. We have to be careful of bringing demons into this…

Skipping Mass is a mortal sin also…does that mean one is possessed for that?

Though…ANY sin, ANY disobedience to God has its source in ‘low places’ I would be hesitant to give demons so much power over us…

Remember, the devil canNOT make us sin…we do have Free Will…

Walk and then kneel in the confessional:

You: Hi Father.
Priest: Hello.
You: It’s been ____ since I been to my last Confession.
Priest: Ok.
You: I looked at pornography _x and masturbated _x and i am sorry for what i did.
…and then the conclusion…

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE SPECIFIC IN THE TYPE. What you did and how many times. You don’t have to list the types of porn! Jeepers.

Great post! 👍 THAT is the point! GOD forgives when we confess!

To the OP:
The only thing demonic I see is the LIE that someone may believe AFTER confession that he/she was NOT forgiven for some technicality. NOT TRUE!

I had NO idea that there were all these different types of porn, but all of them have the same root cause…they all are sins against chastity and purity…and the particular type does NOT matter…

Viewing porn is NOT the same as abusing a child nor anyone else. However, it harms the soul of the one viewing it…and it creates a financial reward for someone actually doing the harm…maybe that is food for thought.

GOD forgives and forgets in Reconciliation…it’s DONE and OVER with! Don’t let the devil convince you otherwise! That is another temptation! being overly scrupulous shows lack of Trust in God’s Mercy!]

Unlike regular pornography… It isn’t easy to “accidentally” run across child pornography online.
You almost have to deliberately seek it out. If that was your case, I would highly recommend that you seek advice from your spiritual advisor/priest.

Also important was your response to that garbage. If you were an active viewer who enjoyed it looking at children, it could be different than if this was a one isolated moment of curiosity, were disgusted by it and never looked at it again.

Again… seek advice from your priest.
