I am really confused about Pastafarianism. I mean, I respect all beliefs, but how could it possibly be credible to anybody that God is a flying spagetti monster? Spagetti didn’t even exist until a few centuries ago. And everybody knows that pirates were theives and murderers. How can Pastafarians believe in these things? They make no sense what so ever. Who invented Pastafarianism? Please explain how people can believe it…

It is a joke religion. It was created as a protest against Intelligent Design Theory. Nobody actually follows it.

I amr. Who invented Pastafarianism? Please explain how people can believe it…
some people believe it came from the Chinese, others from the Italians, there is historical evidence on both sides. Personally I believe Marco Polo picked it up (along with some unhealthy little bugs) in China and brought it back to Italy where it has developed locally side by side with the Mafia, but I am not Italian so I could be wrong. Sicilians disown Pastafarianism totally, so I am told. and actually there is a new documentary recently released about the pirates, who really don’t do anything.

A person can’t really grasp Pastafarianism until they have been touched by his noodly appendage…then all becomes clear (and they start saying Arrrrg alot)

Though to many modern minds, the idea that the supreme being is a mass of spaghetti seems odd…it is really only because they are accustomed to imagining “god” to be something else. Throughout history supreme beings have come to humans in many forms…animals, celestial bodies, storms, humans, morphs of humans and animals, etc.

The point of pastafarianism is for people to be able to step back far enough to see that their religion, and it’s teachings might seem a bit odd and unbelievable to others, and even ridiculous to others.

Pastafarians find just as much hard evidence for the existence of the Flying Spaghetti Monster as they do for the deities of other faiths. They want people to understand why no particular religion, nor it’s creation “myths” belong in a science class. Because the focus of religion is not to convey hard science, but to speak to the soul. And the language of the soul can be rich in imagery and fancy, and still speak eternal truths…but science requires hard evidence.

Most people can see that they would not want their kids taught about the Flying Spaghetti Monster as the source of all creation, and maybe that can help them understand why others balk at having a thinly veiled version of a certain deity, being given credit for creation, in a science classroom.

I know very few scientists who mind evolution being taught as a theory, not as absolute irrefutable fact. There is a great deal of evidence for evolution, but not irrefutable proof of exactly how it occured. It is the best current scientific theory out there.

People can and should instruct their children religiously, and children can and should be taught how to evaluate information and question its validity. Schools should teach kids how to think, not just how to swallow information and spit it back, but how to gather and evaluate information themselves.

It’s not a joke. It’s Satan messing with your noodle – your head. Unbelievers get a kick out of watching believers argue against it.

Pastafarianism is a satirical parody religion, similar to the Invisible Pink Unicorn. Pastafarianism is specifically aimed at attempts to introduce creationism or ID into science classes in public schools.

All hail his Noodleness!
I also use the FSM to teach tolerance. Is a mock religion.
I say do I believe the Universe was created by YHWH but could have been the FSM or Allah, we know when we die.

I know several pastafarians.
ANd the Flying Spaghetti Monster is right up there with St. Brave Little Toaster.

Its all very well to say that Pastafarianism is a satirical parody religion, because it is.
But if you had to feed:eek: 5,632,501:eek: Invisible:eek: Pink:eek: Unicorns twice a day, like I do, you’d have a little more respect for them…(not to mention http://bestsmileys.com/sick/9.gifmucking out their stalls, which is a whole other problem that Ihttp://bestsmileys.com/nono/7.gif don’t want to discuss just before breakfast…).

I do have a unicorn but he is real, not imaginary, and he is white, not pink, but then, as I say, tolerance, tolerance, tolerance. mine deposits pearls so mucking out is not such a chore.

Valke I am waiting with baited breath for the rest of the liturgical prayers.

not to mention mucking out their stalls, which is a whole other problem …
I can see that being a problem with Invisible Unicorns.

“We believe in the Invisible Pink Unicorn through logic and faith. We cannot see Her, so logic tells us that she is Invisible. We know She is Pink because we have faith.”

Does he get angry if you eat pasta?
The friend with whom I shared this thread said the angel Macaroni revealed to her it was ok when eaten on gold plates. But the question arises is it sacriligious to cut it or must it be twirled?

My friend had Sicilian grandparents and eats gnocci as well as spaghetti but does not consider herself a heretic.

She also believes in the invisible pink unicorn because she has an affinity for horses. I say these are two different animals and one has nothing to do with the other. Whereas I have an experiential knowledge of spaghetti and I know what I have tasted!

How can I set her straight about the gnocci and the IPU? We have been friends for a long time. Can we still be friends if she won’t change her ways even after I have explained it all so clearly that any well-intentioned person would be persuaded?

Can I eat spaghetti with her? What if she wants me to go horseback riding with her? I mean, I know the truth but would I be giving scandal?
