I first saw Pat Robertson in 1973 on "The 700 Club " when I was in high school, and have always liked him.
He just seems likeable, down to earth, and fun to listen to. And he seems to have a very deep faith.

I am Catholic and he is Baptist (I believe). I don’t agree with all of his views, but I’ve never heard him say anything critical of the Catholic Church.

I was wondering how he stood with other Catholics, do any of you like him, watch or listen to "the 700 Club? " (I listen to it every day on Sirius radio).

I can summarize his views on Revelation 17, and they are not favorable to the Catholic Church.

in the ACC (Australian Christian Channel) they give the show. I have watched it among other shows. In general I thing all shows are great but all have a protestant lean to them. The important thing is to know one’s faith.

Just came from watching a special presentation on the Davinci Code…The speaker explained how the Bible got to be compiled … and as one could imagine no mention of a council taking place!

Cheers

Alex

That may or may not be the case.

Some anti-Catholic sites seem to the think that Pat Robertson is fairly well in league with us Catholics and up to yet more diabolical schemes. 😦
Thanks for the link!

Well from the way they are so critical of Pat on that site, I would say that it seems he does have a pretty good rapport with Catholics. What they don’t like about him, sounds OK to me.🙂

From your link, here is a brief quotation.

"Robertson gives no warning about Rome’s false gospel and blasphemous errors. In 1985, Robertson "revealed that during 25 years of broadcasting, he has ‘worked for harmony and reconciliation between Protestants and Catholics’ and ‘refrained from airing major theological differences.’

I’ve watched 700 club off and on over the years. I’ve heard Pat Robertson make positive comments about particular Catholics, so he doesn’t seem to be anti-Catholic or as anti-
Catholic as many Protestant preachers/evangelists. However, one troubling thing I read about him from a reliable source is that he has endorsed China’s barbaric one child population policy that involves forced abortion and sterilization/contraception. This is definitely not compatiblewith Catholic thought.

I’ve also watched Pat on and off for years. He has made a few ill chosen statements, I think he needs to work on not blurting out what he’s feeling. I love the conversion stories he has on. Twice I’ve heard him say things directly against the Catholic church , but as a whole I think he does a great Christian work.
I think the person who heard him endorse the one child policy in China must have heard wrongly, I can not believe this man of God would endorse such blatent evil!

Some things about Pat I like, and others really disturb me. For instance, he recently contrasted the justification between the Catholic Church and heretical Protestant beliefs. He claims that Catholics believe that you go to Heaven by “recieving the Sacraments and going to Mass on Sunday.” He then goes on the claim that Paul never baptized anyone (Paul most certainly did) and when asked if we have non-biblical proof that Jesus was a real man, Pat claimed that Tertullian was a contemporary of Jesus and wrote about him right after his death. (Tertullian was not born until the 150’s A.D.).

It is misrepresentations, half-truths, and mistakes like this that frustrate with Pat. I also find it pitiful when the camera pans the audience and they look at Pat with awe.

Below is a link to an article in C*hristianity Today *with direct quotes from Pat Robertson about his views of China’s one-child policy.

Well he did say he didn’t agree with it, then went on to defend it.
But, at least it wasn’t like he was completely for it.

Part of his problem is that he is on TV and radio for so many hours (live?) and he is bound to blurt out things that will get him in trouble, in part just from spending so many hours on the air.

Still he impresses me as a good man, Christian, and a likeable type of guy. Glad he isn’t as anti-Catholic as fundamentalist Baptists are.

I watched him last week and his views were strongl anti-catholic. He even went through that old dog of the differences in Greek about the words “Petros” and “Petra” and how Peter was just a small pebble and his profession of faith was the large rock on which Christ would build his church. Don’t waste your time with him.

I remember seeing a live taping of Pat Robertson interviewing the drummer from the Christian rock band Stryper. My brother was a fan. um… (Crawling back in my hole)

I think that is so lame, especially since Jesus wasn’t speaking in greek! Duh, Pat!( as my 3 year old niece would say) .
I still like the conversion storys.

Pat Robertson is ok. He’s worked with Catholics before and he referred to us as “brothers in the Lord”, so at least he considers us Christians. I like how he speaks up against the atheist-controlled pop culture we live in today. He may not always be right, but he at least takes a stand against atheism and immorality.

That’s pretty cool, I always thought this guy was ridiculously anti-Catholic.

He’s a good guy, just not infallible.😃 The 700 Club has been a pretty good show over the years as far as those types of shows go. My Baptist grandmother and Catholic grandfather used to watch it together.😛

Are you guys serious??? Pat Robertson is a destructive force in Christianity. He called for the ASSASINATION of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez. He has this smirk on his face when he talks about dead Palestinians.
Here’s something I noticed/figured out. Pat and that woman beside him will be praying on the TV. One of them will say “there’s a woman in Nashville Tennessee watching and she has a bad hip”. Then I realised, the program was PRE-RECORDED:eek: . This brand of televison/“christianity” would turn many thinking, caring people AWAY from Christianity. Televangelists are BAD for christianity.

Can you only broadcast live prayer? EWTN shows Mother Angelica and the Poor Claires pre-recorded in 2003. Come to think about it, what about all those rosary cds?

I’m not saying he’s on par with Benedict XVI, but he has brought a lot of peope to the faith. Granted, it may be an imperfect distillation but it’s better than nothing.

I found this post by accident. I was doing a search on the 700 Club & Catholics. I frequent this forum, so I knew I would find the correct answers here. 👍
I really enjoy watching the 700 Club. It plays pretty late here but when I am up with one of the babies, I try to watch it (If there is nothing better on EWTN).
I know Pat has his crazy moments and all that, but Gordon has been hosting it lately and he seems like a faithful Christian who can be down to Earth.
I know my faith well, and have never really seen anything on the 700 Club that would make me have to a) Stand up & defend our church or b) change the channel. Normally it is just good generic Christian stories.
I think you have to be pretty weak in you faith to fall victim to protestant propoganda. Just filter it like you do with any secular programs you may watch. Some of my favorite speakers are protestant preachers. I filter all the anti-Catholic stuff out, and just take the good positive Christian stuff and use it.
Alistair Begg (truthforlife.org/) got me through some of the toughest times in my life, He actually is one of the main reasons I came back to the Catholic church. He showed me a lot about God’s unconditional love for us.
Take the love of God that our Protestant brothers & sisters have and ignore the negatives they say about our church. That is what I feel is the only path to bringing EVERYONE home.
