Is there a patron saint for husbands whose wives have left, and who need discernment to figure out where they’ve gone wrong and where/how to fix it?

Saint Rita, perhaps? (St. Monica is also a good choice.)

Also, what about the Prophet Hosea? 🙂

In terms of husbands in general, I’d go to Saint Joseph for intercession. Although not directly relating to a broken marriage, he is definitely a model husband and a good role model to intercede for you.

May God bless you and grant you peace during this difficult time. 🙂

I second St. Joseph.
When my first husband killed himself, I prayed to St. Joseph.
A few years later…I met my present husband. Named Joseph. 🙂

I’ve been there, 20 years ago now.

I prayed to St Joseph.

What I found particularly helpful was James Dobson’s book Love Must Be Tough (free pdf). Your comment about “Where I went wrong” suggested to me that it might be applicable to your case. Dumped spouses usually blame themselves, without justification - and Dobson addresses that very well. In fact, getting past that stage, after reading Dobson, was the big turning point for me.

I’ll say a prayer for you, and your children (?)

Now I really need to develop a deeper devotion to St. Joseph. Thank you for sharing these experiences. 👍

On the one hand, thank you all so much, and for your wonderful suggestions!

On the other hand, I feel as if I’ve done my beloved wife a disservice by accidentally suggesting that I am somehow the wronged party, and that this is somehow a case of her leaving unjustifiably. That couldn’t be further from the truth.

What I suppose I actually need, if I had the wits to phrase it accurately, is a saint for bad husbands who require forgiveness … or for husbands who want the brains to recognize & right their previous wrongs (whether or not it’s too late for such things). I’m afraid I’m not worthy of the company of the likes of Stes, Monica or Rita, and have much more in common with their forgettable spouses. I don’t suppose there’s any saint that might have more to do with them?
