Team Ted Cruz.

Bobby Jindal and Rand Paul are a distant second.

If the GOP nominates yet another “wolf in sheep’s clothing” like McCain and Romney, I’ll just vote for another 3rd party candidate like I did in 2008 and 2012.

Thank you SaintAugustine.

Mulligan2, why do you think laws against abortion are nanny statism, but laws against rape are not? Please explain.

Ishii,

I have stated my position already. Please understand that I am not interested in repeating my earlier comments. My work week has started, and I will be not be able to participate further at this time. However, if you wish, you may refer to my posts 390 and 391 where I have given my explanation.

Mulligan, why are you unable to simply state that laws against abortion are NOT nanny statism ?? Why the evasiveness? If you have clear answers I wouldn’t ask you the same questions over and over. Posts 390 &391 did not address abortion specifically.

Much too much batting of each other going on in this thread.

I have been away and didn’t get a chance to vote but if I had it would probably go to Rubio. I think he has a lot going for him.

I still think highly of Rubio and voted for him (in this poll). He is perhaps the best communicator the GOP has currently. And I think we need a communicator to be able to overcome the inevitable media smear/bias that will happen in 2016.

Liberal salon.com writer says that Ted Cruz could beat Hillary Clinton as well as David Frum

You are underestimating Ted Cruz.
2 things we should guard against: that she can’t win because of her baggage. Don’t underestimate the power of the media to shape the narrative and make her election “inevitable” like a historical tide sweeping the first woman president to office. That is what the media will do. Along with smearing the male GOP nominee.

We should also guard against the idea that she is a shoo-in. He isn’t.

I can’t tell if you’re being serious or are joking. Allen West would lose badly. With all due respect, West would make Bachmann look rational and eloquent by comparison. He is not a legitimate candidate.

Three years is a lifetime in politics. I don’t put much stock in who is the supposed frontrunner at this point in time.
I’m very serious. He is a man of strong character, with principles that line up very closely with Catholic teachings.

And, I, for one, think Bachmann is also of high character and principles. The unjust smearing of her in the media doesn’t sway me. I would happily have her as a president.

I would not consider Allen West a viable candidate. Has he declared his intention to run?

Ishii
Unfortunately, not yet. If you look into what he stands for, listen to a few of his speeches and discussions with TV commentators, I think you’ll see how good a president he would make.

After watching one of her videos on questioning Bernanke and Geithner, I say she is one smart lady.

West’s principle’s are not in question. His ability to win, and his fitness to be president is what we are questioning. I don’t think he has either of those two things. Neither did Bachmann.

Can you provide specifics regarding your feelings about his unfitness?

As for his ability to win, I think there are more conservative voters out there than the media (and the Republican Party leadership) lead us to believe. The GOP keeps fielding moderate candidates. I’d really like to us try a strong conservative–fiscal and social–candidate for a change.

Cucinelli, for instance, came extremely close to winning. He was far outspent by his opponent, partially because the GOP stop funding him in October. If the GOP would actually back strong conservatives, instead of going on the attack like they did against Ted Cruz recently, and against Tea Party candidates during the previous election, they would be much stronger candidates.
