I just love to see the righties fight about this. Just a sure sign that Hillary is just gonna walk into the White House. Righties will never understand that Americans have already rejected their brand of conservatism. Candidates like Rand Paul, Ted Cruz, Rick Perry are NEVER gonna become president. If one of them are nominated then it will be a Goldwater type of election result.

The candidates that Democrats do fear are Jeb Bush and Chris Christie. If one of those two are nominated then you have a real battle on your hands. But of course the righties won’t nominate them because unless you’re a “wacko bird” as John McCain said then you’re a RINO.

So please continue to implode the GOP and the adults in the Dem Party will continue to win the presidency. 👍👍👍👍

Know what’s sad ? I remember Bunning’s last 2 years in the Majors.

And I love to see smug leftists be overconfident about their chances to win in 2016. As I mentioned before, a year is an eternity in politics. And we have 3 years. Can you say, “Obama fatigue” ? 8 years of Democrat rule and the country will likely be in the mood for a non-Democrat.

Btw, on which issue are these “wacko birds” as you call them, different from Reagan who won a 49 state landslide in 1984?

I especially get a chuckle at the ones who think the cackling old white lady will get elected.

When I read posts like this ,so,snarky and condescending,I momentarily, forget that this is a Catholic Forum, that these knd of comments come from fellow Catholics.Really? Are you so invested in your alligience to the dem party that you can’t see past the policies of those you support and how far they are from the teachings of your faith?Mind boggeling.

Like nails on a chalkboard. I really don’t think Hillary will endear herself to the American people. Let the GOP play her “what does it matter” comment over and over again - against the backdrop of the carnage of the aftermath of the Benghazi attack.

Oh, Hillary is vulnerable alright.

I noticed that too - some of these more recent “progressive catholic” posters are quite snarky. Never thought I’d long for the days of Cmatt.

Barack Obama is now a 2 term president. Obamacare is the law of the land, Homosexual marriage is being increasingly recognized, major news networks have openly accused the US of aiding Al-Qaeda affiliates in Syria, the government spies on everyone and everything, but you watch in 2016, the nation will wake up, and vote in a middle of the road Republican who will set things right, because when people go to the polls in a little over 3 years they’re going to remember Benghazi-Gate.
People need a hard dose of reality. Try watching a couple hours of MTV videos, regardless of how offensive they are, and just remember that each year millions of the kids who love this garbage are becoming eligible to vote.

I was thinking the same thing. At least Cmatt addressed the issues instead of engaging in Schadenfreude.

Remember when Republicans were accused of wanting Obama to fail? Apparently it’s okay for liberals to want conservatives to fail. No reason to address the concerns of the economy, our growing debt, our growing dependence on welfare and food stamps.

It seems to me that for the liberal Catholic, their alligience to the Dem party trumps their Catholic faith, manipulatiing Church doctrine to comply with their political beliefs.
I have said this before but I really do believe that for conservative Catholics, their faith dictates which political party they support.Faith first!👍

Holly, the poll indicated the last names of the candidates. So if you like Paul Ryan, selecting “Ryan” was correct. You’re right- I should have used the full names.

I like Paul Ryan too. But I don’t think he’d be the strongest candidate. I thought his vice presidential debate performance was a bit weak.

Ishii
Thanks for explaining Ishii. I am not very familiar with the rest of the candidates but I do like Paul Ryan. I don’t really like his foreign policy though. It seems to be too similar to George Bush Jr’s.

Yes. What happens is, a moderate Republican runs against a Democrat; the Democrats vote for the Democrat. The moderate Republicans vote for the Republican; and the conservative Republicans either stay home or hold their nose and vote. We need a more conservative candidate that will attract both the moderate and conservative Republicans…and some independents. People have a false notion that all independents are moderate.
This is just crazy. I know it’s what the far-right Republican echo chamber tells itself, but it’s completely out of touch with what most people in this country think.

What you’re really saying is that the Republican right wing is willing to sabotage its own side rather than elect a Republican moderate. That’s what’s been happening. And depending on the issue, it may be the right thing to do. But as a matter of political analysis, it makes no sense to say that the answer is to nominate a more conservative candidate. That’s just giving into the “blackmail” of the right wing (again, this “blackmail” isn’t necessarily morally wrong–it may be the morally noble thing to do on some issues). It won’t attract most independents.

How is using the word “cackle” sexist?

Ishii
The word isn’t inherently sexist. What I find to be a bit sexist is people being critical of Hillary’s laugh, clothing choices, etc.

Would male candidates get this much scrutiny and ridicule on these matters? I don’t think so.

Because “cackling” evokes pejorative images of old women, perhaps even witches.

The hidden message behind these kinds of criticisms is that women have to be young and beautiful or they aren’t worth taking seriously.
