To answer a question about cutting the poor off, the Government is NOT cutting medicare program which gives monthly checks to the poor and food stamps. I understand that they MAY have to cut some of the money sent to organizations, for example Planned Parenthood and other organizations, but they are NOT cutting money sent to the poor people on Medicaid, see it is another myth that the liberals are spreading around, same as Medicare, the Government is not changing Medicare if Romney/Ryan gets in, only those under 55 may get a voucher if they want it. I do hope they cut Planned Parenthood as that is where all the abortions come out of, but as far as Medicaid, that stays the same and so does Medicare. Obama on the other hand, is cutting 500 billion dollars off of medicare, to pay for his Obamacare which means he is cutting medical procedures, cutting payments to doctors, some doctors already are saying they won’t accept patients with medicare if Obamacare is not repealed. He had to cut something to get his huge Obamacare which will cause massive unemployment of the medical insurance businesses out there. It will be almost impossible to have a procedure done and has to go to a 12 person panel to get approved or not approved and the payments cut to doctors is the bad part too, as they won’t stand for it and will refuse treatment to Medicare patients. So Obama has the worst plan for Medicare ever, Romney/Ryan are not touching it.
I am on Medicare as I am chronically ill from genetic diseases from birth but I managed to worked 33 years and paid into the system, so I oppose what Obamacare will do to Medicare, that is what the elderly on Medicare should be told about Obama’s plan for Medicare, not Romney/Ryan. All those poor people in Florida being told lies. The truth has to come out so people can vote the right way. I am all for Romney/Ryan, the have all the social Catholic views that I have, Obama has none of them. We all should know that.
Praying for Romney/Ryan 2012!

What?

The only two segments of the economy have seen their purchasing power increase under Obama - welfare recipients and SS recipients - the rest of the population has LOST buying power under Obama. Apparently society is listening to the squeaky wheels while the rest are busy working for a living…
The owners of companies like ExxonMobil have seen their purchasing power increase under Obama.

With all due respect, many poorer people are also very resourceful. I have a PC, but it is a hand me down from my stepfather. I bought my large screen TV at a garage sale. There are many ways a person who doesn’t have much money, can make the most out of their home.
I think the point of these statistics and the comment about priorities was that “poor” in this country is completely different than in third world countries. People are not starving in the streets. People are not dying in hospital parking lots because they can’t pay. I think one issue is that while nobody begrudges the poor a decent standard of living, many of us question the large federal programs that are replete with waste, fraud, minimal standards and duplication. Further if it’s easier to take government benefits than hustle, human nature would indicate that many who could provide for themselves or their families take the easy route.

While we all pooh pooh anecdotal evidence I challenge everyone on this list to tell me they haven’t seen people scamming the system, taking advantage of lax standards, or even the complicity of those working in the system to keeping people ON it. How many times have you stood behind a seemingly healthy vigorous young man or woman who bought food with food stamps then pulled out cash for cigarettes and beer? I have a friend who works in an upscale grocery store who said this happens all the time. When I was Outreach Coordinator for my former church I coordinated the delivery of 100 Christmas baskets. The recipients were supposedly prescreened and in need. With few exceptions I would pull up next to a nice car, walk into a home with a big screen TV where kids were playing Halo or Tour of Duty. Everyone looked well fed, decently clothed and certainly not lacking in creature comforts. And no, it’s not that I think people should be living in hovels and wearing rags but when someone claims they are short of FOOD and still has plenty of money to spend on goodies…As I think Denise said, it’s priorities. If someone else is paying for your necessities, you can spend your disposable funds on non-necessities.

This speaks to the Ryan Romney philosophy of having responsibility go back to the state and local level. Of all the programs the federal government provides, the block grants get the highest marks for providing what the specific constituancy needs.

Record breaking profits actually!! Don’t forget BP. Thank you for bringing that up. There are other issues besides those damn poor people sucking our country dry. What about being steward of our planet? We could be leading in new renewable technology (instead of China) had we not had so much of those record breaking profits go to politicians to block that legislation and demonizing the EPA. Or are we still denying Climate Change too?

The “owners” are shareholders, many of them retired or elderly who have Exxon in their pension or retirement plan. While this stock has gone up, many others have tumbled. How’s that GM bailout working? I hear we’re set to lose $25 BILLION with a B. Those who bought GM at the post bailout offering have lost their shirts.

Honestly Stinkcat you have a real thing against oil companies. Tell me you walk everywhere? I love oil companies and I’m hoping Romney Ryan will open the floodgates of American energy. The Left wants us to feeze in the dark 😃

Oh please…green energy means red ink. How many BILLIONS sunk into those Obama cronies for Solyndra, Light Squared etc etc etc? I’d love it of those companies had made record breaking profits because we could get our tax dollars back. There is no point in subsidizing inefficient energy sources that have their own set of consequences (wind farms for example) when we have plenty of low cost and clean energy right here in America.

But that’s what I’m saying you can’t base judgments like this off of what you see…how do you know that those games and that system weren’t a Christmas gift themselves?? How do you know?

At one time I was very, very bad off and I really needed help - but was too embarrassed to go to my parish because most of the people knew me there. They knew my child and I were always well groomed, dressed - I drive a nice, new white car.

The car is my Aunts and I didn’t have a license at the time I was so in debt. But I didn’t want to explain that - and I’m sure everyone I didn’t explain it to would have assumed the worst, like you kinda did in regards to those kids and their Xbox or whatever.

I am happily OFF welfare - and will hopefully never stand in one of those damned lines again just to be treated like I’m less than a person. I’m an honest person - yes there is fraud and misuse, but the way some people try to analyze poverty by some material possesions a person might have bought is weird to me.

**Also, another quick point if I may - no matter how much I didn’t have, I never wanted my daughter to go without and I never wanted her to be aware of our financial troubles. I don’t think we should stress kids out like that…one might say ‘someone gave your kid an xbox for Christmas, why don’t you sell the X-box for food’ to them I would say I’d go without food for my daughter to be able to keep her Christmas present…

Sounds like Romney to me!

We could not be leading in “renewable” tech instead of China because it’s cheaper to manufacture in China. China doesn’t actually use all that stuff, they sell it to saps like us who just refuse to accept that it isn’t cost effective. Meanwhile, China adds a new coal-fired plant to its inventory every ten days.

And those who have a larger ownership stake have done quite well during the Obama administration.

I neither have anything against oil companies, nor do I like them. I don’t see companies as things to like or dislike, they are either useful or not useful. I am against special interests in general. So of course, I will criticize the oil industry, agriculture and any number of other industries because the effects of their lobbying have been bad for the country. I also could care less how much energy we produce in the US. I don’t want unnecessary regulations that prevent drilling, but I also don’t want any policy that discourages importing energy as well.

Sounds like Romney to me!
Yeah right…Romney’s taken so much out of the Treasury. Probably to support his wife’s dressage horse! Right now half the country doesn’t pay income tax and nearly half get some kind of government benefit. When the people pulling the wagon are outnumbered by those IN the wagon, the economy stalls. Which type are you DeSanto?

Not only that, ExxonMobil has a relatively low profit margin ( about 5.4%)

Compare that to 11% for something like McDonald’s or 24% for Coca-Cola,

The Federal government and most state governments make more ‘profit’ from a gallon of gas than ExxonMobil does.

Actually, the profit margin doesn’t tell us much. A better measure is return on equity, which in the second quarter of this year was 39%, which is phenomenal.

Again Paul you are so right. Jesus did teach us to take care of the poor, thus we always send money to the Catholic missions that feed the poor here and also one that feeds the poor overseas. The government has always helped, but it is not their responsibility, and with the shape we are in financially, they have to make many cuts. But they are not cutting Medicaid programs for the poor nor are they cutting Medicare at all. I listened last night to all the liberals telling the older people in Florida on the streets that Ryan is cutting Medicare to pieces, SO UNTRUE. Medicare stays the way it is unless you are under 55 and you may be able to get a voucher to buy your own insurance (your choice), but anyone over 65 on Medicare, it stays the same. I find the liberals turning the whole story around so that obama gets their votes. It is called lying to the people about so many issues. I hope the debates will straighten out all their intentions as the Democrats are desperate now and make false statements about Medicare and upset the elderly everywhere. I hope they all will listen to the truths told by Romney/Ryan at the debates. I can’t stand the lies and even when they are caught (like the lady that Romney killed with cancer, Romney was not even at Bain, it was 5 years later after the business went under, the woman had a new job and insurance & then died, and the whole commercial was a lie and proven so. They even used the husband in another commercial about something else. When proven it was untrue, Obama and his people said oh we have nothing to do with those ads, WRONG!! They made it all up to look like Romney’s business went bankrupt & the woman died without insurance, Totally not true, so you see what the other side is doing to try and win more votes. I swear Obama has an agenda if he wins, things will really change for the worse.
So lying is not the way to win an election of any kind. Paul are you in NY? You speak of Cardinal Dolan who I really like a lot, we are in upstate NY. Watch Fox for the real news and they go over the lying ads of Obama. It is so sad to see this happen.
They do not deny they want to cut Medicare. It must be done. Obama’s plan will cut Medicare by the same amount. The difference is, the cuts Obama makes will go back into stregthening Medicare. The cuts Ryan wants to make will just cut, that’s it. And please don’t forget he wants to add an additional 2 TRILLION DOLLARS in tax cuts for rich people. They do not deny cutting Medicare or the tax cuts…they just spin the story to scare us into thinking that’s what we have to do. The question is not will Medicare get cut, it’s how! Don’t be deceived, the elderly will pay more under his plan. What about people under the age (which they will raise), where will they get their insurance. What about a concrete construction, self-employed man that cannot work until he’s 67 years old, what will he do for insurance?

There is nothing “far right” with Rep. Ryan. Heck, I have far more doubt that you even understand what you are talking about, ringil. Paul Ryan is a true American. Watch this video and learn what that actually means:

Paul Ryan Welcomed Home by Crowds of Thousands

What is a “true American”?

I guess a “not true American” would be an Englishmen, Tibetan, or Peruvian?

Wow that’s news to me! Do tell me how underpaying doctors and rationing care will “strengthen” Medicare? Seniors are terrified of Obamacare and with good reason. Between the cuts to providers which will mean fewer of them accepting these patients to the IPAB and Best Practices bureaucracies that will tell doctors what care they can and cannot provide, Sarah Palin was not far off when she spoke of ‘death panels.’

The Ryan plan is virtually the same as for Congress. There is substantial premium support allowing seniors to choose what kind of plan they want. There is more premium support for poor people than for wealthy people.

You really need to learn more about Medicare and quit reading Dem talking points. THEY are lying.

No one is denying climate change. The climate has been changing since the planet started. Vikings once grew crops and cattle in Greenland. England was the wine growing capital of Europe. Ice gripped Europe down to Italy. What’s your point, we turn over our freedom to mindless bureaucrats who know better how to make our decisions than we do?

I’d like a reference to the provision of “Obamacare” that puts the 500-700 billion cut from Medicare budgets “back into strengthening Medicare.” If you can provide this, maybe I’ll be lucky enough to understand the verbiage. Fortunately, I’m pretty sure you can’t.

I can understand your points to a degree…

However, please look at it from the other side. Many people who work, have sacraficed, and pay taxes are scandalized and become disenfranchised when they see this sort of thing. Many of us do without large screen TV’s and Xboxes and what not.
