PE Teacher Claims School Fired Him for Writing a Screenplay the Pastor Disliked

Actually, I think the diocese needs to re-write its contracts. Now, they say an employee can be fired for ‘just cause’. In many places, a worker can be fired for no cause at all.

So now the school must argue that it had just cause.

“A P.E. teacher claims the Sacred Heart of Jesus Roman Catholic Church School fired him because, on his own time, he wrote a screenplay that the pastor read and didn’t like, in Kings County Court, Brooklyn.”

Good riddance. We don’t need teachers who write filthy screenplays.
 
Is there any more information about this out there. The filing, as is typical of court filings, is sparse and unspecific. I’d like to hear what the pastor of the school says or what was found to be particularly objectionable in the screenplay.

LOL, if you want to sue a Catholic school, you should find a lawyer that is at least conversant in “Catholic”.

From the document:

“… the defendant, in terminating Mr. Offley without just cause violated the tems and conditions of his employment contract, the rules and regulations of the defendant **and the precepts of the Roman Catholic church **(sic)…”

The precepts of the Church are

How, exactly, does firing someone violate any of the precepts of the Church??

I would like to see the defendant’s response to be fair. I would not be surprized if the screenplay was a “morals clause” violation.*
