Al Masetti:
Are there similar “peace activists” in Haiti and Bosnia?
There weren’t when Bill Clinton was bombing Yugoslavia and massacring civilians there.

I’m glad we saved them. If for nothing else, then to show the muslims we will not just let them have our civilians.

However, what I would like to see happen is this. Execute them ourselves. That would send a message to the other “activists” that we won’t tolorate this type of treason.

Now I was angered by the activists excusing the terrorists, and blaming the troops for their freinds murder, instead of those that tortured the guy. And I do believe they’re opportunists, as they are in Iraq, not before the US is there only after, and they have no peace activists in Africa. I mean Iraq is a stable Democracy compared to Sierra Leone, yet not one activists in the entire continent. That tells me they go where they’ll be recognized.

However to begin to call for their exexcution, is plum crazy. I am glad they’re rescued, and I wish them well, but I don’t like them.

I would like to say that this thread is one of the most un-Christian slag-fests I have ever seen on this entire forum. Some of the posters claim to be Catholic; those may want to re-consider their professed faith.

What is really sad, is that the inflammatory diatribe that started it all is disingenuous, and factually wrong.

That’s right, the evil mean US army saved them.

Not quite:
From CTV.ca - “The mission, led by Britain’s secretive Task Force Black, involved the work of several Canadian agencies, including the RCMP, Department of Defence, CSIS and soldiers from the elite counterterrorism unit JTF 2.”

If you prefer Fox News - “No kidnappers were present when Coalition it doesn’t say U-S] forces arrived at the house and found the hostages in relatively good condition, Gen. Lynch said in a military briefing.”

Their response? Not one word of thanks.

Really?:
“Loney sent thanks to the British soldiers, the Canadian government and everyone who thought about and prayed for him in captivity.” (CTV news)

Oh, but they did call them “illegal occupiers”.

It would seem that they aren’t the only ones who have indicated similar sentiments:
news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/2811047.stm

If you don’t like the British source:

Mr. Bush met Friday with Pope John Paul II, who reminded him of the Vatican’s opposition to the war. (taken from: cbsnews.com/stories/2004/05/26/world/main619785.shtml)

The late Pope may have been completely wrong, however, I will defer to his opinion on this issue.

They prayed for their terrorist friends. This is simply nonsensical. But no prayers for our military, (this is a fact is it?) even the ones who saved them (or didn’t, or had only a minor role) from the terrorists who tortured and killed one of their friends. Typical liberals.
Ridiculous.

And that is mighty Christian of you?

Pot meet kettle!

Ridiculous!

The latest news is that the activists have “grudgingly” said a minimal thank you. But they refused to be debriefed and give information that would lead to the capture of the terrorist captors. The same ones that tortured and killed their companion. These guys are truly useful idiots. They are HELPING the terrorists. I told you so.

Hey cestus, I agree with you. Like it or not, there is a war going on in Iraq. These have no business being over there in the first place. Take them out of there along with most of the TV people, and we would be better off. If they still insist on being in Iraq or Afganistan, if something happens, that is their problem.

Oh, you want the TV crews out, do you? What exactly do you suppose the military is doing that needs to be hidden so badly?

I never said I wanted them out because of anything hidden. I meant that for their own safety they should be more careful where they go. In the networks quest for ratings, they are going to extremes way beyond what they should.

In the Beatitudes, Jesus tells us “blessed are the peacemakers” (Matt. 5:9). Elsewhere in the Sermon on the Mount he tells us “if any one strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also” (Matt. 5:39). From such verses some have concluded that Christianity is a pacifist religion and that violence is never permitted.

But the same Jesus elsewhere acknowledges the legitimate use of force, telling the apostles, “let him who has no sword sell his mantle and buy one” (Luke 22:36). How are these passages to be reconciled?

In broad terms, Christians must not love violence. They must promote peace whenever possible and be slow to resort to the use of arms. But they must not be afraid to do so when it is called for. Evil must not be allowed to remain unchecked.

So, here’s some news from the peacemaker point of view:

ekklesia.co.uk/content/news_syndication/article_060327cptmedia.shtml

*Allegation: Norman Kember and the Christian Peacemakers have been slow and grudging in thanking the soldiers who rescued them.

Response: Norman Kember, Harmeet Singh Sooden and Jim Loney were immediately grateful to those who set them free. The London Times reported a local security official noting Dr Kember’s thanks. Pat Kember thanked all involved. Family friend and fellow activist Bruce Kent relayed CPT’s “unqualified gratitude” on BBC Radio 4. James Loney has issued his own statement of thanks. Christian Peacemaker Teams in Chicago and Toronto put out two statements on the same day as the release of their three colleagues. The one in the evening was specifically about their gratitude and regretted any impression to the contrary due to misinformed comments from some quarters. CPT spokespeople reiterated their thanks constantly. *

This is just a small section of the story that is trying to clear up misconceptions. The site has a lot more information on the peace teams.

Peace - what a radical idea. Love your enemies - truly radical, because even the tax collectors love those who do good to them.
Yeah, that Jesus, he was quite a radical - he called us to forget ourselves, our lives, and remember only our souls. That’s why I love him so much, because he did that for me and you. 🙂

They only “regretted” it once the criticism began. They did actually thank the terrorists. Also they did refuse to give any information that might help in apprehending them. Imagine someone killed your child and others thanked the killers and refused to provide information about them. That isn’t peacemaking.

It’s ridiculous to point out that calling for the deaths of the Christian peacemakers is counter to Catholicism, which is anti-capital punishment?

Why on earth??

The nastiness in this thread is unbelievable. Our church is against this war!!
