Dear Muslims friends,

We, as faithful beleivers of God, Our Creator,
Do admit, whatever are our spiritual teachings,
that God love his creation and want the peace
for every human.
Therefore , would like to know what are the verses
in Quran who speak about love and Peace for every
beleiver, and humanbeens generally.
Please , let us have in this thread a peaceful and
friendly discussion.
With God Bless to every poster.
Nohamaria:)

Also, for those (like myself) that don’t know much of anything about the Quaran. If you post a verse, can you please explain what your specific interpretation of the verse means?

Maybe you have to read the Quran carefully before someone goes around believing it be the truth.

Only if you follow Muhammed per (Quran 3:31):
قل إن كنتم تحبون الله فاتبعوني يحببكم الله ويغفر لكم ذنوبكم والله غفور رحيم
**
YUSUFALI:** Say: “If ye do love Allah, Follow me: Allah will love you and forgive you your sins: For Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.”
PICKTHAL: Say, (O Muhammad, to mankind): If ye love Allah, follow me; Allah will love you and forgive you your sins. Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.
SHAKIR: Say: If you love Allah, then follow me, Allah will love you and forgive you your faults, and Allah is Forgiving, MercifuL

For official interpretations use this link, it has many commentaries for authentic Islamic clerics.

Thank you Sam_777 for your reply,
Then according to this Verse , only the acts and
words said by Mohammed count for Muslims.
Therefore, would like to ask Muslims whether Mohammed
preached about peace and love in his teaching.
But I am sure that there are some more verses in Quran
spoke about the matter. Only their clerics had to point
them to us . Hopefully they will in this thread.
E.g. If they consider Jesus ( Issaa) as a prophet than ,logically,
they have to admit his teaching , is’nt it?
With God’s bless.

This surah was abrogated (replaced) both for authority for applications and its wording abrogated.

When Muslims discuss the Koran the Sharia laws tell them that they are to know about abrogation. Sharia laws, r14.2, talks about abrogation or supersession as it is referred to in the book of Sharia laws.

The ‘peace and love’ in the Koran was abrogated by what are called the ‘sword’ surahs.

Unfortunately, you have picked the wrong book to discuss peace and love. I wish it were true that there was peace and love in it, but it just is not there.

I am quoting from this article:
Recently, much progress has been achieved by applying statistical analysis to the Islamic doctrines themselves in order to understand why pious Muslims are waging jihad on unbelievers. Specifically, we now understand that about sixty-one percent [4] of the contents of the Koran are found to speak ill of unbelievers or call for their violent conquest; at best only 2.6 percent [5] of the verses of the Koran are noted to show goodwill toward humanity. Get this: about seventy five percent [6] of Muhammad’s biography (Sira) consists of jihad waged on unbelievers.
(That 2.6 percent are mostly abrogated surahs)

The Bible doesn’t preach goodness towards humanity 100% of the time either.

The Bible doesn’t preach goodness towards humanity 100% of the time either.
Weird response considering that 2.6% of the Koran is about peace and harmony, and those surahs were abrogated, or replaced.

I do not have a breakdown of the Bible and don’t know if there is one. I could do a search tomorrow because tonight I am going to finish this post and go to sleep.

Just off the top of my head I would say that the NT percentages are the reverse of what the Koran’s are.

Classic example of one of the most commonly used logical fallacies made when the Koran comes up: “Quick! Look at this other thing over here!” It’s called a non sequitor, diverting the topic to a semi-related but irrelevant topic. The Rig Veda probably doesn’t always speak about peace and harmony, but that doesn’t excuse the Koran from doing so as well.

In regards to love, peace, tolerance, etc, in the Koran, one of the most commonly cited surat for this is Surat 109:

Say : O ye that reject Faith!
I worship not that which ye worship,
Nor will ye worship that which I worship.
And I will not worship that which ye have been wont to worship,
Nor will ye worship that which I worship.
To you be your Way, and to me mine. [S. 109; Yusuf Ali]

If I recally correctly, this was one of the earliest passages of the Koran revealed by Mohammad - therefore, it was revealed at a time when he held no real power in Mecca and had only a handful of followers. Once Islam began to truly blossom and he had plenty of power, the tone of the Koran changes dramatically in regards to other faiths. Some examples:
  • Islam is superior over all religions (S. 9:33)
  • Those who accept a religion other than Islam will be rejected in the hereafter (S. 3:85)
  • Do not take Jews or Christians as friends, for they just help each other out (S. 5:51)
  • Fight the unbelievers until they convert or submit to jizya (S. 9:29)
These are just some from my notes. The Koran is not a nice book about those who disbelieve, but an important distinction has to be made here lest we lose sight of the real focus. Most religions of the world are not very friendly in regards to other faiths, yes, but only in regards to unbelief and the hereafter. The Koran condemns unbelievers for their unbelief in the hereafter and here on earth, and asks Muslims to commit deeds against them in the here and now (jizya, holy war, etc).

Isn’t it undestood that each verse of the Holy Qur’an has “layers upon layers of meaning and depth”…and one does not really read or understand the depth of meaning in the Qur’an unless one reads it in the language it is written…Arabic…doesn’t Arabic have a depth of meaning of words as does Hebrew and Greek?

Those “translations” of the Qur’an into English are really “interpretations” of the text…and does not carry it’s depth and meaning of the Arabic Qur’an? Is this how Muslims understand the English “interpretations” of the Qur’an?

Thank you brother for your very well documented reply.
I am trying to draw the attention of our brothers the Muslims
to these facts:
Since Koran and as well their prophet Mohammed spoke
about some prophets of Ot and Nt e.g Abraham. … Issa Who is Jesus in our
beleive. Those prophets had teachings How much of their teaching they
approve and especially Issa.( Jesus who was the messenger of peace
and love)?
Did they went back to history and find out what are their teachings?
Or only what was said by Mohammed about them was approved.
Need to know whether they accepted their teaching too , because
a prophet without teaching is not a prophet. Then it is contradictory
to their beleif.
Hope will get answers soon.

With God Bless.

then it is not universal if it is so limited and so hard to understand. It is not for all people for all times as they like to claim. I wonder why if people think that this is so above normal people’s understanding that it was revealed to a guy who couldn’t read or write?

My take on it is that when we read it and understand it they like to tell us that it is beyond our meager selves to understand it because we find out that it is a mish mash and we need the hadith and sira to understand it.

It is a poorly written book that has a lot of bad stuff in it and to say it is beyond us infidels to know what it says is just a bunch of hogwash.

The Complete Infidel’s Guide to the Koran

Here is an interesting article on how the shia and Sunni each blame each other for distortions in the Koran. Each acknowledge that there are corruptions in the Koran. The Yemeni Koran that they found had erasures and places where text was overwritten other text.

Is this how Muslims understand the English “interpretations” of the Qur’an?
A good question.

I would say people are probably very biased when it comes to language or the mother tongue of the religion.

9 posts so far and no reply from our muslim members?

Hmmmm?
Great, you’ve jinxed it. 😛 Now hamba will come in and claim people can only understand the Koran if they prostrate…or planten will come in, claim that the Koran is full of peace and love, refuse to cite any passages to prove his case, then claim he never said the Koran was full of peace and love in the first place.

Ah, I’ve brought this up before.

The unfortunate thing is that many Muslims, especially those on this board, are ignorant of Christian teachings, and even admit to it. I’ve had Muslims on this board admit to me that they haven’t studied the Trinity (after debating with Christians at length on it), as well as other Muslims admit they haven’t studied patristics or early Church writings (Ignatius, Clement I, Justin Martyr, etc). Many simply follow what their Koran teaches, therefore they come to this forum, make the declaration, “You Christians worship three gods!” and simply get laughed at. It’s very frustrating because while many Christians make some effort to understand Islam from the context of Islam, Muslims seem to refuse to understand Christianity from the context of Christianity.

Partially this is because even the founders of their faith taught them not to study other religions:

Narrated Abu Huraira:
The people of the Scripture (Jews) used to recite the Torah in Hebrew and they used to explain it in Arabic to the Muslims. On that Allah’s Apostle said, "Do not believe the people of the Scripture or disbelieve them, but say:-- “We believe in Allah and what is revealed to us.” (2.136) [Sahih Bukhari Volume 6, Book 60, Number 12]

Narrated 'Ikrima:
Ibn 'Abbas said, “How can you ask the people of the Scriptures about their Books while you have Allah’s Book (the Qur’an) which is the most recent of the Books revealed by Allah, and you read it in its pure undistorted form?” [Sahih Bukhari Volume 9, Book 93, Number 613]

Therefore Muslims are told very plainly not to seriously consider the other revelations that came before and to simply accept what is given to them through Mohammad. What is the problem with this? God never worked this way. If we look at the New Testament, for example, we find constant references to the New Testament. Romans 9 alone has twelve Old Testament citations from five different books. The Koran has none. Some Muslims I have spoken to have pointed to a verse that might vaguely be cited from the Psalms, but compared to the wealth of citations to the Old Testament which are used to confirm who Christ is and what His Church is, it pales in comparison.

Sadly, this means Muslims, and especially Muslim apologists, are left with a circular argument. Anything that agrees with Islam is right, and anything that disagrees with Islam is wrong. Again, God never worked this way. He who comes 600 years after the last revelation - a revelation which confirmed what came before - had better make his case even better.

Partially this is because even the founders of their faith taught them not to study other religions:

Again , who was Abu Huraira and Ibn Abbas, compared to Muhammed,
were they prophets like Muhammed? When their prophet approve
in Quran the existence of other prophets for Allah, who preceded him,
They become unfaithful to Muhammed and to Allah if they don’t search
and study their teaching too. I am drawing the muslims, our brothers
to think seriously about this fact and react, otherwise , they are
wrong and unfaithful beleivers.
Peace.

What I believe an Arabic word means based on a very limited “word study” by non-Muslims does color my understanding. The Holy Qur’an is as “universal” as the Bible…which is also very nuanced and can carry various meanings of the words based in Hebrew and Greek…layers upon layers. This is evident on Catholic understanding of certain words which reflect Catholic belief and dogma…especially the delicately nuanced words Catholics draw upon to “flesh out” their belief in Mary’s perpetual virginity and her immaculate conception…as well as how they look at “full of grace” vs “highly favored one.”

The "layer upon layer’ is seen in Jewish mysticism. I haven’t take a class in Greek for over 3 decades…and I remember little of the two years of classes…I can find my way around a Greek Lexicon and struggle with various NT passages…but I find I have no deep investature any longer to weigh each “jot and tittle” to determine ‘correct belief’.

It is clearly a good statement, almost secular. It allows every one to stick to their beliefs. Also note that Quran teaches complete liberty about belief. "There is no Compulsion in (any) religion. Right way has been clearly described away from wrong beliefs. (2:256)
If I recally correctly, this was one of the earliest passages of the Koran revealed by Mohammad
B W it was not revealed by Muhammad. But **it was revealed to Muhammad **by Allah care of the holy spirit i.e.a ngel Gabriel.

That was an accusation from you or your own false idea.
Some examples:
  • Islam is superior over all religions (S. 9:33)
OKAY.* Those who accept a religion other than Islam will be rejected in the hereafter (S. 3:85)
God says that to Muhammad. It may very well be true.
  • Do not take Jews or Christians as friends, for they just help each other out (S. 5:51)
No. Right translation is “Do not take Jews or Christians for your helpers (guardians, allies). They are allies of each other.”
  • Fight the unbelievers until they convert or submit to jizya (S. 9:29)
“Fight the hostile disbelievers until they surrender”… Remember that before verse 9:29, the polytheists (pagans) are discussed. So this verse 9:29 is also about pagans. But since the people of the book were working in collaboartion with the Arab pagans, they are also warned. Tell me, what business did the Christians have to take side with the pagans? That was really bad when the Muslims were all love for the christians for many years??
Islam may be superior over the religions because the Muslims believe that the religion of all prophets Noah, Abraham, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, Jesus, Muhammad was Islam. So according to that Christianity is also superior. Islam means peace and that was the mission of all prophets, Moses, Jesus, Muhammad.

But when they had to work amongst the infidels (active disbelievers, kafirs) they had much opposition. They had to struggle hard. Jesus did not have much time to do anything except giving some guidance, lectures etc and there was a quick showdown (within three years).

But Moses had much to do against the Egyptian king Pharaoah. His men (Jews) were highly persecuted. By the guidance from God Moses succeeded in delivering his people to safety (out of Egypt). The enemies of Moses were defeated and destroyed. Same thing happened with Muhammad. Muhamamd had been in all praise for Moses and Jesus. Try to see the Quran, please.

No a single word of the Quran is abrogated. It is just like Jesus said “Not a word or dot of the scripture (OT) will be changed or cancelled.”
These are just some from my notes. The Koran is not a nice book about those who disbelieve, but an important distinction has to be made here lest we lose sight of the real focus. Quran does not tell Muslims to disturb any peaceful non-believer. It is not essential to believe in MUhammad or to become a Muslim. That is upto the person to decide. He/She will face the consequences in the hereafter only (and may be in this world too. But not from the hands of Muslims. He/She may suffer due their own bad deeds , alcohol, sex, gambling etc.)

“God does not forbid you from those who do not fight you because of religion and do not expel you from your homes – from dealing kindly and justly with them. Indeed, God loves those who act justly. Quran 60:8

Al-Qarafi, a classical Muslim scholar, describes the depth of the meaning of “dealing kindly” referred to in the above verse. He explains the term:

‘…gentleness towards the weak, providing clothing to cover them, and soft speech. This must be done with affection and mercy, not by intimidation or degradation. Furthermore, tolerating the fact that they may be bothersome neighbors whom you could force to move, but you do not out of kindness towards them, not out of fear or financial reasons. Also, praying they receive guidance and [thus] join the ranks of the blessed with external reward, advising them in all wordily and spiritual matters, protecting their reputation if they are exposed to slander, and defending their property, families, rights, and concerns. Assisting them against oppression and getting them their rights

the arabic word used in this verse is “taberrohom” this word refere to the highst degree of kindness , quran always use this word with dealing of parents

Prophet Mohammed said: “ One who hurts a non-Muslim, he hurts me and one who hurts me, hurts God.” (Hadith)
Qur’an says: “… and argue with them in ways that are best and most gracious.” (16: 125)

Qur’an says: “ Do not argue with the people of the Book, unless it is in the politest manner.”(29:46)

And if ye punish, let your punishment be proportionate to the wrong that has been done to you: but if ye show patience, that is indeed the best (course) for those who are patient. "(Surah Al Nahl, verse 126)
It means that if you suffer injuries and if you are competent, you may take revenge of the same degree. Revenge is permitted but self-restraint or forbearance is preferable. If you are patient that would be better for you and those who are witness. (Fawaid-e-Usmani).

According to Islam blasphemy, infidelity, and paganism are heinous and unpardonable crimes. However, reviling the practices and worship of anything other than Allah has been forbidden. Verse 108 of Surah Al-Inaam makes it clear,
** "Revile not ye those whom they call upon besides Allah. "**

Islam has invited attention to another important point, “The concept of unity of mankind”

“O mankind! We created you from a single (pair) of a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that ye may know each other (not that ye may despise (each other). Verily the most honoured of you in the sight of Allah is (he who is) the most rightenous of you.” (Surah Al Hujurat, verse 13)

Islamic Shariah has emphasized adoption of every possible step for promotion of peace and checking anarchy. In the verse No.56 of Surah Al Aaraf, it has been made very clear:

****The Holy Quran has further elaborated the point at another place; "That Home of the Hereafter we shall give to those who intend not high-handedness of mischief on earth: and the End is (best) for the righteous. " (Verse 83 of Surah Al Qasas).

The prophet of Islam said: “Whoever hurts a non Muslim, I shall be his complainant and for whoever I am a complainant, I shall ask for his right on the day of Resurrection.” (Hadith)
He also said: “ Whoever persecutes a non Muslim or demands work from him beyond his capacity or takes something from him with evil intentions, I shall be a complainant against him on the day of Resurrection.”(Hadith)

The Holy Quran makes it explicit that killing an innocent person is equivalent to killing the whole humankind.

A verse in Surah Maidah states, "If anyone slew a person* unless it be for murder or for speading mischief in the land* it would be as If he slew the whole people: and if anyone saved a life. It would be as if he saved the lift of the whole people. " (Al-Maidah. verse 32)
