The problem is not just with Priests, but also with non-clergy in charge that help in covering it up. My question is why do the non-clergy help to cover it up?

Is there a statement on the main catholic web page about what USA Catholic Church is doing to ensure children are safe?

This is the truth! It all comes down to which target has the deepest pockets!😡

The scandal gave fuel to anti-Catholics. They exaggerate and act like there is no problem elsewhere. On some occasions, there are massive cover-ups within their own denominations. All we can do is consider the source. 1 Peter 3:16, Matthew 5:11, Matthew 12:35-37, James 3:6. Let those who condemn unjustly suffer the consequences.

The church could definitely do a better job of defrocking the accused and fighting for the elimination of the statue of limitations for rape and molestation.

I’ve been looking for something that gives me a straight forward answer. Any help would be wonderful! 👍

What will it take? Seriously, what will it take? The leadership within the North American church have outlined new processes and procedures for both volunteers and clergy. The statistics clearly show that abuse is lower within the Catholic Church. Tellingly, most abuse cases regarding priests happened during a specific time period. How many recent cases are there?

Are these procedures and statics to be placed on the main page of the USCCB or CCCB? Should a newsletter detailing this information be sent out? What needs to be done to appease people that the leadership of the church is doing everything it can to protect the vulnerable?

And what needs to be done so that attention can be given to other areas? People focus on clergy and the like, all while educators are sent around to different school boards, or in the case of my father, protected by their employee union(s) or peers.

I have nothing but harsh words to those who exploit myself and other abuse survivors with their invective agenda.

I am in Australia, I can point you to the Royal Commission but if you wait till December, the findings will be out.

For now, and I am in a notorious Diocese for historic sex abuse,
  1. Sacrament of Reconcilliation is in public view- no more confessionals
  2. Anyone working with kids and vulnerable people are required to get a working with children and a police check.
  3. People working in paid and volunteer roles undertake training in safeguard programs.
No one hides what happened. No one denies it. Yes it happened, now the victims, survivors are supported in relevant ways and it’s spoken about.

We have a loud fence. A visiting Priest asked me why ribbons were tied all over the fence. I had to tell him why.

The people who offended were Clergy, laity, religious, male and female.

This too. Pianistclare would know, given she is very knowledgeable in the area of education

Shouldn’t people be found guilty ,

Rather then publically accused to be implicated?

It’s so easy to accuse,

I had forgotten about Confession in the open, or in a place with glass windows.
Just thought of a couple more:
Children are not permitted to be in any office areas with adults alone, may not be sent on “adult errands” like making copies in areas without windows or where they may encounter adults alone, when our priest teaches a single student for Confirmation due to severe illness, (cancer) either it’s done in a huge room with many people walking through, or with his parents present.
No more hugs. A high five, fist pump, what they call a side hug, but no pressing against anyone or you will be reported.
No underage “friends” on FaceBook.
There’s so many regulations it’s hard to remember them all on the spot.

Oh! And in Ireland, the BIshop of Dublin has decreed that no altar servers can be alone with the parish priest in the Sacristy, or ever, really, Which has led to happy conversations and deeper friendships and trust levels between clergy, parents, and children. 😀

I totally agree Melchior. I think the hard time I’m having regarding the Catholic Church is that people on the outside of the church see the rape cases in the church and automatically believe the WHOLE church is evil for “allowing” it to happen. This in turn is hurting the battle for Pro-Life. All they think is that we just want those babies to survive so that the the priests can rape them as well. Very disturbing thinking obviously but that is what they think. Things need to be done so that these issues don’t make evangelizing harder and quite frankly, pretty near impossible.

One issue with many of these cases (in the US) is criminal prosecution is impossible because of statute of limitations. Only a fraction of of accused, even when admitting guilt to the allegations, are convicted.

I read a while ago that the level of sexual crimes in the CC was roughly the same in other denominations and religions. I wonder what they are doing?
