This statement by Nancy Pelosi is certainly scandalous and her Biship should be inviting her in for a private meeting on the matter.

If she refuses, then excommunication would be warrented, but it is her Bishop’s role here, not ours.

A formal public rebuke; possibly excommunication of politicos who publicly defy church teachings that lead others into grave sin; close the book, blow out the candle, ring the bell type of event. Aint going to happen.

You expect all the brave Bishops and Cardinals, who stood on the alter next to the pope at Mass and latter distributed Communion to all those alleged Catholic politicians who proclaim their solid support for a woman’s abortion rights, gay marriage, or currently cohabitating outside of marital vows, to develop intestinal fortitude like the early martyrs . Yea that would be an interesting day: maybe even inspirational, don’t hold your breath. The church still has martyrs in many places but not in the American hierarchy.

Notice how Mrs Pelosi has always gone out of her way to identify herself as a Catholic and an authority on the church. She is both ignorant and brazen. She is surrounded by a powerful political party & media who appreciate her willingness to take on the arch-enemy!
Return to Speaker Pelosi?

The purpose of excommunication isn’t to punish, but to help the person see the errors in their way and in so doing, reform and return to the faith.

A private meeting would do more than a public excommuication.

Pray for Nancy Pelosi

Correct me if I am wrong… However did not her Bishop call her for a meeting - which she refused? It seems to me that it is indeed encumbent upon the Church Official to Publicly rebuke this scandalous to the church behavior of hers (and others) for the sake of the flock of Christ. If this does not occur - then is it not so that woe be unto the requisite Church leaders?

Is this not where we are at now?

I think he has tried, semi-publicly. In a 2010 interview, Mrs. Pelosi addressed her differences with the Church:
Nancy Pelosi:
I have some concerns about the church’s position respecting a woman’s right to choose. I have some concerns about the church’s position on gay rights. I am a practicing Catholic, although they’re probably not too happy about that. But it is my faith. I feel what I was raised to believe is consistent with what I profess, and that is that we are all endowed with a free will and a responsibility to answer for our actions. And that women should have that opportunity to exercise their free will

Her Archbishop,George H. Niederauer had a long response in a pastoral letter, but this portion summed it up:
It is entirely incompatible with Catholic teaching to conclude that our freedom of will justifies choices that are radically contrary to the Gospel—racism, infidelity, abortion, theft. Freedom of will is the capacity to act with moral responsibility; it is not the ability to determine arbitrarily what constitutes moral right.

While he didn’t call out a punishment Pelosi specifically, he did mention the interview and Pelosi by name, and the “correction” appears to have gone ignored.

Yes thanks. Well. It is time for the next step -yes? It has to be asked - Does not failure on the part of the Church Official to address such in a more sterner manner result in the behavior of those like Obama that now deny the ‘Conscience Clause?’

Methinks so.

But this is another issue and I have no doubt that her Bishop will try to reach out to her for a private meeting.

Either way, it’s up to him how he handles Nancy Pelosi.

A private meeting will go about as successfully as Dolan’s private meeting with Obama did before Obama decided to make a fool of him, I’d imagine…

Also the purpose of a public excommunication is NOT ONLY to let the excommunicant see the error of their ways, but also to PREVENT other faithful Catholics from being misled by the ideologies of the excomunicated one. And also so that she does not receive the Eucharist in a State of Mortal Sin thus condemning herself.

Pelosi is pretending and informing the media and other knowledgeable Catholics that her stances and positions are fully in keeping with Catholic teachings and promotes herself as a ‘devout’ Catholic. If the Bishops keep silent and do not take steps to publicly excommunicate her for her own sake and publicly denounce her errors, then they risk the souls of millions of other Catholics who could be be misled by this woman and also the souls of millions of other non-Catholics who will be led into thinking that she represents authentic Catholic morality and conduct!!! And also to not desecrate the Body and Blood of Christ by throwing pearls before swine and thus being further responsible for adding greater condemnation to Nancy Pelosi’s soul for her sacrilege!

Any bishop who blatantly fails to defend his flock from the disguised wolves and do harm to another through the Eucharist also imperils his own soul and will be held accountable to God for his actions and inaction!

She must be publicly excommunicated and her errors exposed for the sake of:
  1. Herself
  2. Other impressionable Catholics
  3. The Catholic Church and her authentic teachings for the world to correctly understand her
  4. For the bishop’s own soul as it’s his responsibility in his position to answer to God for his inaction.

jdnation, well said. Yes, Cardinal-designate Dolan was played by Pres. Obama.
The American heirarchy and their naivete re: the party of death is mind boggling.

How can people who call themselves Catholic vote for these people? I know we can’t use the pulpit but how do we get to the 43% who voted for Obama and his cronies? So frustrating. The Catholic vote can determine the outcome of an election.
I believe her to be in the same camp as women liberationists. They are the ones that believe abortion is ok, gay relationships ok, women should be ordained priests, etc. They refuse to leave the Church…they want the Church to conform to their theology, to their *Catholicism. *They are bold, aggressive, and ambitious, and unfortunately due to the lack of properly catechizing our young in the 70’s 80’s and 90’s, there are a lot of our youth that are ripe for the pickin so to speak. I see it to be a huge problem. Another segment are the Catholic seniors that have always voted Democrat and they’re not going to change now. They somehow don’t get the fact that the Democratic Party has been highjacked by radicals. To them, the party is still for the working guy and helping the poor. As time goes on the poor blue dogs or “Reagan Democrats” as few as there are left, are being muscled out by their own party.
A scary situation to say the least.

She (Pelosi) must be publicly excommunicated and her errors exposed for the sake of:

Totally agree. She must be publicly excommunicated to clear the Catholic Church’s belief and position. Make no mistake.

Pray for Pelosi’s excommunication.

One should rather pray for her conversion methinks. However at this point I too must concur that excommunication be considered as the damage to the flock is becoming considerable - am I wrong to say this?

And not just for Pelosi.

I would like to think the same for all that vote for Abortionists. I guess that is why I am **not **the Pope!

I imagine she doesn’t even go to CC anymore, does she? Sounds to me like she publicately stated she no longer is Catholic not in so many words but…

There are many Chrisitan politicians that vote just like her. and many that vote for them.

(no I did not vote for Obama)

So does anyone know if Pelosi goes to Mass anymore? I mean I would think she wouldn’t have the nerve to, but thats just me.

I sit in judgement of no one and never wish ill of anyone,

just saying she is not the only Catholic politician that get elected all the time and stands and votes the same as her.

Supposedly St. Vincent de Paul (in the Pacific Heights neighborhood) is her home parish. I used to know parishioners there, but don’t think I do anymore.

If Pelosi goes to church, she must go somewhere in D.C. even her home parish was in CA.
I hope whoever is the priest gives out Eucharist would just bless her and not hand the Eucharist to her. But she may goes to a Eucharistic minister, or she probably does not attend Mass.
But regardless, she should be officially excommunicated to have the Church’s position clear.
Too bad I am not the bishop.

I do think the CC will say something now after the headline in that article. (I would be surprised if they didn’t).
