I am curious… Is there still need to flog this ‘dead horse?’ It blatantly is what it is.

We’re not talking about children here, but adults, clegy and lay people equally.

Jim
That is exactly my point, those adults who have the mentality you described are simply childish to say the least - disobey church by using contraception because they are not happy about how sex abuse scandal was handled. That is simply ridiculous! But you are right, there are people like that, as you said.

Are you suggesting it is better to submit than to resist? I think the flogging should continue with renewed vigor because I reject the idea that the horse is dead. It’s just been inactive for too long. Once again calls need to be renewed for Pelosi to be refused communion.

I know, every time that call is made, the automatic response is that we’re using the Eucharist as a political weapon, but that charge is about what (may) motivate the call; it does not at all address the question of whether the call is justified. In this case it is not really possible to rationally argue that Ms. Pelosi’s actions don’t impel such a response.

In a really good article on this issue, Fr. John Zuhlsdorf (Fr. Z’s blog) asks of Archbishop Niederauer (San Francisco) and Cardinal Wuerl (D.C.): *“Your Excellency? Your Eminence? How much longer does this have to go on? What else does she have to do? … Please, somebody, explain to me how we square *doing nothing *about her scandal with can. 915 and the sacred duty bishops have to protect the flock?”

Maybe off topic, but doesn’t anyone have an issue with the fact that the Vice President doesn’t seem to have a problem with this policy, and the is a self-described “devout Catholic” himself?

Yes… yes I do as I am sure many others do as well… I personally wish to see the Bishops impose Publicly the excommunication card. I say Publicly for the politicians under discussion ( and others) sinned Publicly in a scandalous manner to the Church.

How else can the church heal?

We are indeed seeing the effects of failure to excommunicate the offenders in a timely manner. The Politicians are becoming more and more brazen. And why not? They are getting away with it!

I ask in all sincerity- how can a true Catholic disagree rationaly with what was just said?

I would probably use the phrase “a humbly Catholic, faithful to the Church and the Magisterium” rather than ‘true Catholic’. Too much is implied with it. True Catholics sin all the time.

Don’t know if this has been said yet as I just read the headline and went straight to commenting BUT I am all for what Pelosi said. Obama most certainly is courageous. It takes a lot of courage to stand against Christ. Especially knowing you’re only condemning yourself and that you will never ever ever win. Obama may be a lot of things, but brave is definitely one of them.

Alot of people thought that kamikazis were brave.

Read this today concerning the ultimate decision by HHS and Obama:
bloomberg.com/news/2012-02-08/obama-weighed-religious-politics-before-taking-decision-on-contraceptives.html

Very interesting. Pelosi, Biden, Sebilius, all Catholic, should be called to give an account for this. Pelosi has gone on the record, obviously, but Biden and Sebilius are dodging. Let them choose; Faith or secular policy. It really is just that simple. One either follows the tenants of the Faith, or one dissents and places onself outside of Communion with The Church. You cannot be a Catholic on Sunday, and a secularist the other 6 days of the week. And the sooner this is established in the public domain, the better!

Sebelius has already been told by her bishop not to present herself for communion. Unquestionably Biden and Pelosi should be told the same thing.

That was back when she was governor of Kansas. She has been so firmly in the pro-abortion camp that it is no wonder that Obama selected her as HHS Secretary. Now, we get this mandate from HHS which will force Catholic institutions to cease being Catholic.

As the culprits -the Politicians that are Pro - Abortion- have Publicly scandalized the Church, they need to be** Publicly denounced /excommunicated** in as widely dismeninated manner as their Public disgraceful acts were spread.

The Church must be allowed to heal from these said icons of error.

I have to dispute this. Do you actually think Obama didn’t poll and focus group this thing before he did it? He doesn’t do anything without first finding out how it will register politically. He’s the exact opposite of brave.

Maybe he has miscalculated with this act, having been perhaps emboldened by getting away with other anti-Catholic actions. I hope and pray he has miscalculated.

It is my impression that SaintPatrick333 was satirically commenting on the audacity of Obama.
