Not only does the executive order FALL SHORT of the Stupak language, it WILL BE OVERTURNED in the courts. It is counter to already established Supreme Court rulings (on legislation, not executive orders, can place such protections). The pro-abortion lobby will soon sue and they will win.

The executive order is a toothless, political smokescreen.
I’m sorry but no court can overturn a law because you don’t like it. The executive order that is suppose to be signed today is a good faith order because the language is already in the current law. It sounds more like some people are hoping and praying that a healthcare bill will be taken from the American people? Doesn’t sound charitable to me, sounds more like sour grapes? IF we can’t get our way then no one will?😊

  1. NOW, Planned Parenthood and other pro-abortion groups were satisfied with the language in the bill itself. Why would they not be vehemently opposed?
  2. Ben Nelson’s attempt to include Brad Stupak’s clear language barring public funding of abortions and conscience right protections was rejected from inclusion in the Senate bill. Why would they do that if they were in agreement with those protections?
  3. The executive order (political theater that it is) beyond noting the issue of conscience rights, does not attempt to actually protect them.
  4. The Supreme Court has previously ruled that federal funds are available for abortions unless they are legislatively restricted. The Hyde Amendment does that for HHS. The Hyde Amendment does not apply to the healthcare bill and equivalent wording is NOT present in it.
Playing the “charity” card is inappropriate, unless you actually believe there is any chance that Obama and his team somehow do not understand the well established, settled legal framework for abortion funding.

Speaking of charity, you may wish to examine your statements suggesting motivations of posters here.

This is all a painful process. I don’t enjoy it either but this is the way it happens. Who likes or disLikes the language is about fear itself. The language is part and parcel of the law, the executive order is more of a good faith jesture and will be carried out. The fact is if you burn the executive order today, it doesn’t matter because the exact language was in the law yesterday and is in the law today and will continue to be the law, but for some reason people can’t, don’t want to or don’t want to believe this is tru? Stupak worked hard to get that language into the bill and then pushed hard to the executive order to be viewed as a signal to all that abortion will not be part of the bill whatsoever! I believe he at least was trying. No store was given away to anyone here.

Sad to say but: abortion is already funded by the government even if the healthcare bill never came to a vote. This is fear about fear.

I am also trying to be charitable under fire, but all of our motovations are crystal clear. There’s no fog blinding anyone here. When you work or interact with people sometimes it gets heated but you can’t demonize people because they think differently than you. As people, we all have rights and beliefs and at the least, be respectful of each other, our positions, our religions and to protect our own humanity at the same time…which is not easy to do.
