Pennsylvania's Catholic bishops forbid boys to wrestle girls

🤷 This is not necessarily true. Please see my previous posts on this thread about my own wrestling experience. I know it is rare, but surely I cannot be the only female ever to defeat a male in a wrestling match (though this was not at an official tournament but rather at practice). I suppose he could have been going easy on me, but he always seemed frustrated whenever I won, so who knows?

You obviously have way more experience in the sport of wrestling than I do, but I am just stating what I experienced. It is obviously not the norm for females to defeat males in wrestling, but it is not altogether impossible.
Many different variables as to why you beat someone in practice (which btw there is no winning or losing in practice). He could have been training his weakest techniques versus your strongest in order to improve those areas. He could have been going easy and holding back, even subconsciously. He mightve been injured. And it was just practice. In a full blown competition, the intensity is through the roof. If other muscular, well conditioned, and experienced males have hard enough times beating other males, why would a smaller framed, weaker, slower female be able to? Smaller guys who have never won a tournament or a single match have mopped the floors with World Champion female grapplers at my gym.

I dont mean to sound so negative, but its just the truth and the differences in physical attributes between men and women are a reality.

When I was involved with martial arts, they had us spar against girls on occasion. Of course there was no head contact and only shots to the body.

I had a hard time punching a girl in the chest, which was the only contact area available because they were so much shorter.

Also, being raised in the 50’s where boys never hit girls, the entire idea was foreign to me, especially where I was 38 years old sparing an 18 year old girl.

I never saw a female who could beat a male. Even females with black belts had no chance against a male in the upper belt classes.

I never could see a female on a boys wrestling team, nor playing football.

But I’m an old man raised with old fashion values.

I’m not denying differences in physical attributes between the two genders. I think men and women are strong but in different ways. I have seen some big, muscular, fast females in sports like wrestling, rugby, and contact football. I am not saying these particular women should play in men’s leagues, but they are stronger than some men I know. It is possible for an individual woman to be stronger than an individual man even if it is not the norm.

My experience is of course only anecdotal evidence, so you can assume anything you like about the techniques or ā€œholding backā€ of my male opponent. 🤷 I can’t quite remember how we fought as it was almost ten years ago now. I just remember him being frustrated if I won the match, so it’s impossible for us to know the reason why. There is only speculation.

I know of women who have used martial arts to gain the upper hand against a male mugger or attacker as well. It is advantageous for women (and I suppose really for anyone) to learn some form of self-defence.

To continue from my previous post, here is an article which discusses the differences in strength in male vs female athletes: femaleathletesfirst.com/ArticlesFAQs/TheFemaleAthlete/TabId/124/ArtMID/457/ArticleID/20/Are-Women-Inferior-To-Men-In-Strength-Dispelling-The-Myths.aspx

This is a quote taken from the article regarding male and female strength:

"Research on male and female strength potential reveals that women possess about two thirds of the strength of men (1,2). However, when other measures of strength are used, such as strength relative to cross-sectional area of muscle, the strength to men and women is nearly equal. Muscles at the cellular level have a force development capability independent of sex, and women are as able as men to develop strength relative to total muscle mass.

ā€œStrength should not be viewed in absolute terms. The gender differences in absolute strength, for example, are not consistent for all muscle groups. The distribution of muscle fiber types-fast and slow twitch- is similar in the two sexes, and women are able to use a greater portion of stored elastic energy than men during activities in which muscle is pre-stretched, such as in the counter movement prior to jumping. On the other hand, men may have an advantage in neuromuscular response time that results in greater force production speed than women (3). If the amount of lean body mass is factored into the strength equation, the relative strength difference between men and women is less appreciable. Based on a strength-to-lean-body-mass ratio, women are about equal in strength to men.ā€

I apologize if the above is not a good source. At the very least, it does provide citations to studies recorded in sport medical journals.

Sorry…I realize this is my third post in a row. 😊
My point is this: the left is all for equality…in one direction. They seem to be OK with girls competing in sports normally reserved for boys, but somehow seem to have issues with boys competing in sports normally reserved for girls.
See, to me, I understand why girls could play in men’s leagues but not vice versa. Only the very best women are even remotely considered to play in men’s leagues. Why? Because (though these ā€œleftsā€ won’t admit this) a male athlete is, generally speaking, going to be stronger than his female counterpart. There is a 10% difference in world records between men and women. The only way this would work is if a very bad male athlete was ā€œdemotedā€ to a women’s league.

Another issue with women’s leagues (beyond just the strength difference of the two genders) is that there just aren’t as many professional female athletes in team sports. The support for women’s hockey, for example, is abysmal in countries outside the Canada and the US. So the nature of it is just that they are going to have less talented players since the talent pool is more shallow. If women’s sports received more funding around the world, and women in general were more well supported to play professionally, then we would see a rise in the level of competition.

FWIW, in our state there’s at least one really good high school wrestler, a Mormon, who cannot qualify for state every year as he flat out will not wrestle a female opponent, so he scratches several matches per year.

I have to give him credit for sticking up for his principals.

And the males who get screwed out of participating in their sport, because one female insists on being a member of the male wrestling team, the world hates anyway.

The feminization of America is going to be the cause of our downfall. As school curriculum’s have focused on female education over boys, today less males are now graduating from four year colleges and the future looks even worse as less males are even getting grades high enough to get into colleges, over their female counterparts.

I won’t be here to see the downfall, despite the speed at which it’s coming.

šŸ‘ Good for him!

(EVEN if it turns out he’s just – terrified of losing to a GIRL!)

😊 - Sorry. It was "there".

This is only for high school right? This does not extend to my marital bed does it?

I’ll give you a real world example. We lived in a medium sized town that had one major ā€œselectā€ soccer club. Each age group would field 1-3 boys teams and 1-3 girls teams, depending on the number of kids trying out. The best 18 boys made the first team, the next best boys made the second team, and the next 18 make the third team. If a boy was not in the top 54, he was cut from the club. Same went for the girl teams.

A girl was allowed to try out with the boys and she made the 3rd boys team. Which means a boy was cut. That boy was only allowed to try out for one of 54 spots, while the girl was allowed to try out for 108 spots, since should could also try out for the girls teams.

Not so fair.

Actually, he’s a real stand out and would place high every year, but can’t due to this.

Does this apply to Jiu Jitsu which is more submissive grappling and forcing your opponent to tap out when they’ve been overpowered? Does this mean that parents who have their daughters learn this as a form of self defense are promoting immoral behavior?

Peace.
