You both need to go to confession today.
The video had nothing to do with the topic.

I just want to thank the OP for starting this thread and all the people who have shared their knowledge and experiences with this subject.🙂

I am in the process returning to the Catholic Church after several years as an Evangelical and am struggling with how to tell my friends at my old church that I am leaving. I know a lot of them will be shocked, as I’ve heard a fair amount of Catholic bashing during my time with them, generally from the ex Catholics more than anyone. This always bothered me and I often found myself acting as an apologist for the Catholic faith, in spite of the fact that I had left it behind(or so I thought) I do know that some of the people who have become my dear friends are really going to be hurt and I am praying that God will help me to gently explain my choice in a way that they will understand and respect.

There were a lot of reasons why I left the CC but now they seem pretty petty, mostly people stuff etc. In the last year or so though God led me to began to question the theology I was learning at the Evangelical church and I did a lot of reading, research and praying. Through a great deal of soul searching and discussions with my Catholic friends and and most of all my husband, I realized that the CC is the one true Church. As I opened myself to Gods will in the matter I began to yearn deeply for the Eucharist and finally met with a wonderful priest who has helped me to reenter the Church. I feel so blessed to be back home and to be part of Gods family once again

I would like to know how other returnees have handled their relationships with friends from their old church? So far, I have just made excuses about why I haven’t been to my former church and I know that I need to be honest and tell people that I have returned to Catholicism. I want to glorify God and in this process and be clear and loving in my explanations to them, but It’s a little anxiety provoking as I feel that I’m going to lose a lot of my support system and friends no matter how I say it. Sorry for rambling as I’m still trying to put this all together. God Bless You All!

Do you believe God is leading you? If so, what do you base that on?

A lot of things that I’m not ready to share on a message board just yet but simply put, a deep, innermost ‘knowing’ that it was time to return. Wish I could give you a more concrete explanation but that’s my experience and it’s difficult to translate into mere words.

I see by your other posts that you may be looking for a debate. Sorry but you will get none from me. I am totally at peace with my choice and have no desire to justify to anyone but God why I have made the choice to return to the Catholic Church. Actually, your question has made me realize, that the simple honest explanations are the best and that’s what I shall share with my friends. If they are true friends they will remain such, if they condemn me for my choice then they never were real friends. Take care and God Bless. I’m going out hiking with my Dogs to enjoy this beautiful world God Blessed us with.

Since all protestant denominations come from the Catholic Church, they aren’t necessarily “wrong”. Each has a piece of the Christian “pie” that they emphasize.

All were born out of various conflicts between the personal practices of faith, the church as an institutional entity and the influence of the state.

Some examples:
Lutheran= Salvation by grace alone.
Baptist=baptism (obviously), Bible
Pentacostal= Holy Spirit/Day of Pentecost, Spiritual gifts, Bible
Methodist=Bible, most pentecostal denominations are offshoots of the Methodist early 20th century “awakening”/revivals.

The Catholic Church, being the root or origin of the Christian faith; still holds “title” to the valid eucharist.

I hope that makes sense. I grew up protestant, and was pentecostal before I was Catholic.

Stay Catholic, enjoy the Pentecostal experience and use it to revive your Catholic faith.

FYI: Many pentecostal folk are former (or as they say"recovering" Catholics) and will try negatively influence you against the church.

They do have a point. Many (most) of my cradle catholic friends really don’t have a good handle on the bible or why they believe something, it is just rote.

I learned so much in the pentecostal church and at bible college.
I am able to apply my knowledge to the liturgy and it greatly enriches my experience.
This is good advice. My wife and I went from the Catholic Church to a Pentecostal Church for three years. Although the preaching was pretty good and the pastor and the congregation were absolutely wonderful people, we decided to “go back home”. The pastor, in a couple of his sermons made statements about “what Catholics believe”, which were of course incorrect. This made us wonder what else he might be incorrectly preaching to his congregation, so we left. He tried to talk us into staying by saying he has lots of proof where the Catholic Church is heretical and wrong in it’s teachings, which he emailed to me. I looked it over and it was nothing more that Catholic bashing at best, based on non-researched comments and assumptions primarily from Lorraine Boettner. We were glad we made the decision to go back to the Catholic Church, but we did learn a lot from the Pentecostals, ,but primarily we learned a new appreciation for Jesus Christ’s only Church.

**Apologize for pointing to the truth. The fact that you stated that Christ gave us the Catholic Church; I nor you can establish that from Scripture. Christ doesn’t give His bride away does He? The bride is the group if individual believers; based on your understanding of Scripture it is very obvious to the children of God that you are not in the family at this point of your life, but there is always the Savior you can come to as long as you are still breathing. So put away your old self and come to Jesus.

Isn’t the pillar of truth, the “c” church; the household of God. There is no secret mystery of God, but the “natural man” cannot understand them for they are foolishness to him. **
You are quite wrong my friend. It is in scripture that Christ established the Church. The Church is Christ bride as Christ is the bridegroom. hm. that is in scripture. This is nothing more than a cheap insult what you have posted

Excellent attitude woodswalker. You are correct. Those that are true friends will understand and continue to be friends and those that are not friends will get angry and turn away from you. In our experience, all turned away. But our decision stands and we are so happy with our decision. It is not about the entertainment, the upbeat atmosphere, the speaking in tongues, etc. IT IS ALL ABOUT GOD, and that is all that matters.

This is why Sola Scriptura does not work, you don’t get the full picture. You have to have Scripture and Apostolic Tradition, then everything will fall into place so you will have a full understanding.

Do you know what sola scriptura is and what it is not? If so; then I doubt you would make such a comment.

**Do you know that God’s will is not something hidden and when one is walking according to God’s will; then the decision you make will also be according to His will. Do you know that? It is not something mystical; but rather concrete. It is not for me to tell you what is right or wrong, but as a believer knowing and doing the will of God makes many decisions in life easier and with God’s agreement, which seems to be your goal.

Thanks for your wisdom. Take Care.

Sola Scripture is the belief that the Bible is the sole authority that one needs to decide what is and is not authentic Christian teaching and practice. Since you are the expert, how do you define it?

To be fair to rainman, Sola Scriptura means different things to different people. What really matters, for the sake of this discussion, is not what I or anyone else believes Sola Scriptura to be, but what you believe Sola Scriptura to be.

God bless

I agree, thank you. That is why I asked what it means to him?

I know that they do not have a valid Eucharist and that is probably the main reason why I have not left the Catholic Church. Please help!
Hi Holly; here are some scriptures that teach against any new Christian teachings other than the one Jesus and the apostles handed down to the Catholic church today. Any new Christian sect being introduced after the 15th century is man made religion; Your question should be who and when was the Pentecostal bible study worship movement began? It is common knowledge that Jesus founded the Catholic church and built it upon Peter and the apostles. Present day Pope and Bishops in the Catholic church.

2 John 7 Many deceivers have gone out into the world, those who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh; such is the deceitful one and the antichrist. 5
9 Anyone who is so “progressive” 7 as not to remain in the teaching of the Christ does not have God; whoever remains in the teaching has the Father and the Son.
10 If anyone comes to you and does not bring this doctrine, do not receive him in your house or even greet him;
11 for whoever greets him shares in his evil works.

1 Tim.1: 3,
1 Timothy 6; 3 **Whoever teaches something different and does not agree with the sound words of our Lord Jesus Christ and the religious teaching 4 is conceited, understanding nothing, and has a morbid disposition for arguments and verbal disputes. From these come envy, rivalry, insults, evil suspicions,
5 and mutual friction among people with corrupted minds, who are deprived of the truth, supposing religion to be a means of gain.
6 Indeed, religion with contentment is a great gain.
11
But you, man of God, avoid all this. Instead, pursue righteousness, devotion, faith, love, patience, and gentleness.
12 Compete well for the faith. Lay hold of eternal life, to which you were called when you made the noble confession in the presence of many witnesses. **

Colosians 2; 16 **Let no one, then, pass judgment on you in matters of food and drink or with regard to a festival or new moon or sabbath. 8 **
17 These are shadows of things to come; the reality belongs to Christ.
18 **Let no one disqualify you, delighting in self-abasement and worship of angels, taking his stand on visions, 9 inflated without reason by his fleshly mind,
19 and not holding closely to the head, from whom the whole body, supported and held together by its ligaments and bonds, achieves the growth that comes from God.
20 If you died with Christ to the elemental powers of the world, why do you submit to regulations as if you were still living in the world? **

2 Peter 2: 1 **There were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will introduce destructive heresies and even deny the Master who ransomed them, bringing swift destruction on themselves.
2 Many will follow their licentious ways, and because of them the way of truth will be reviled.
3 In their greed they will exploit you with fabrications, but from of old their condemnation has not been idle and their destruction does not sleep. **

1 John 4: 1 **Beloved, do not trust every spirit but test the spirits to see whether they belong to God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.
2 This is how you can know the Spirit of God: every spirit that acknowledges Jesus Christ come in the flesh be longs to God,
3 and every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus 2 does not belong to God. This is the spirit of the antichrist that, as you heard, is to come, but in fact is already in the world. **
4 You belong to God, children, and you have conquered them, for the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.
5 They belong to the world; accordingly, their teaching belongs to the world, and the world listens to them.
6We belong to God, and anyone who knows God listens to us, while anyone who does not belong to God refuses to hear us. This is how we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of deceit.

Galatians 1: 6** I am amazed that you are so quickly forsaking the one who called you by (the) grace (of Christ) for a different gospel
7 (not that there is another). But there are some who are disturbing you and wish to pervert the gospel of Christ.
8 But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach (to you) a gospel other than the one that we preached to you, let that one be accursed!
9 As we have said before, and now I say again, if anyone preaches to you a gospel other than the one that you received, let that one be accursed! **

The Catholic church came first before the New Testament was canonized. These scriptures confirm the apostolic teachings from the first century deposited the full deposit of faith in the Catholic church. Look into this first before you take the long road back home.

Peace be with you:)

Actually the seed seems to have planted in Hisalone going by what he said.
