I absolutely agree. Look at how he portrays the woman as wild & out of control but look at the title of this thread…“please help me with this one before I go insane”. And he wanted to go back for a rematch.

I suspect this is a feud, not a religious defense. 😃
Agnos, coming from you, an atheist or agnostic (whatever), and one who has “his own” religion, I could care less what you two think about me. Look to yourselves.

There are nothing but a bunch of cry babies here.:crying: :crying:

You can say anything you’d like about me because usually people who have “their own” religion are the ones who are the most unhappiest. So all your assumptions about me go right out the window. Perhaps you should look to your own soul, rather than be ready to tear apart another.
And really, the way it happened between me and this woman, is between me and this woman. You cannot judge others, but then again, you are taking things in “your own” hands.
Mate, its just more proof that you didnt act the way that you said that you did.

I dont get this “tear apart another” bit, your the one throwing the insults (3 posts making fun of my beliefs).

Now this bit about “the way it happened between me and this woman, is between me and this woman”, it was you who chose to put the story up on an internet site for the whole world to see. You cant really make that argument after doing that.

I think that you should stop with these “judging” comments, its making you sound hypocritical.

I think you could be right.

Here’s Cardinal Newman on the subject (1884):

We may have a hard time convincing you (and vice versa), but IMO the Catholic approach is a better one. After all, suppose you buy a Bible from the bookstore, read through it and come to your own conclusions, how will you know if your interpretation of the Bible is right, especially if it contradicts on how your, say, neighbor interprets a particular passage? How will you know which of you is right? At least think it’s quite a blessing the Catholic Church is here around to all the ‘dirty work’ for us and is attempting to avoid this dilemma.
I mean, it’s Her book (at least we Catholics think it’s Her’s), so shouldn’t naturally She be the one who should do all this stuff?

As an aside, I suggest putting this debate in a new thread to prevent this one from derailing and crashing off.
I agree. Wow, that was easy (putting this debate in a … I mean).

:bible1: “Those in Berea searched the Scriptures daily, to see if what they were hearing was true to God’s Word (Acts 17:11). John and Peter both warned of false teachers, and Jesus said they may come to us in sheep’s clothing (Matt. 7:15; 1 Jno. 4:1; 2 Pet. 2:1). John said our duty is to “test the spirits,” and Paul said: “Test everything. Hold on to the good.” (1 Thess. 5:21).” By Warren E. Berkley, Front Page,

Question for you: What, exactly, were the Bereans testing?

Did they find it word-for-word in their Bible? Or did they merely find that it was not in contradiction with what they found in their Bible?

Uh, they didn’t have a “biblos” as we have today. They searched the Old Testament scriptures and compared them to what Paul was preaching as we all should today.

“These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so. Therefore many of them believed; also of honorable women which were Greeks, and of men, not a few.” (Acts 17:11-12). When the word of the Lord was preached to these people, they manifested outstanding characteristics that all individuals would do well to practice. There are various and sundry reactions to the preaching of God’s word. The Bereans demonstrated the proper attitude that hearers should have. Consider the outstanding qualities that they evidenced by their actions and then ask yourself if there are any Bereans today." By Bobby K. Thompson

Are you referring to the Bible before King James had it condensed, or after?

One question: According to Acts 17, Paul reasoned with the Thessalonians for three weeks, they in turn searched their Scriptures and arrived to the conclusion that he was wrong. The Bereans did the same and believed that he was right. What was the difference?

I used to have a quote posted in my office it says:

" Never argue wih a pig, it frustrates you and it insults the pig. "

You can never discuss issues with narrow minded people. You are attacking her core beliefs.

All you need to ask her is where were all the protestants prior to 1500 ? Catholics have been around since Christ. Protestants didn’t exist before tha 1500s.

which reminds me of another quote that may well be suitable in this case:

“it takes one to know one”

😃

Paul wrote: “By referring to this, when you read you can understand my insight into the mystery of Christ” Ephesians 3:4 (BCC; Before Catholic Church)

But, I am not a Protestant, I am simply a Christian. Antioch? Anyone? Anyone?

Righteousone; When ever I am persecuted for telling the truth, I look to the crucifix, and ask myself, Wow, Jesus you did that for me? Why?.. Make a sacrifice for your friend and dont let her know until you have completed it. For example walk around for a day with a pebble in your shoe, and take on the suffering for your friend. Pray for the holy spirit to help you and your friend become lovers of the Gospel together. Then let her know what you did for her and you offered up your sacrifice to God for her. And dont bring up Bible topics, but talk about God’s sacrifice for us, and most of all the Love and Sacrifice Jesus gives for us all…

Our father… Hail Mary

The term, “BCC” came about, when?

Oh… yesterday?

There have been others, before and since Paul, who write of Christ with as much authority as he had…

Btw - was he present during Pentecost? Isn’t that amazing, that a Johnny-come-later is given more his due (by some) than the guys who were actually there…

I said **more **his due.

“Johnny-come-later”? Now that is a new one on me. The “guys who were actually there” were given the grace to recognize Paul for what he was. Thanks be to God there were not disputes recorded in Scripture about that. It was of no account then, and is of no account now.

People who talk about “Paul” are not talking randomly about some of his personal papers or opinions…and he writes as if there were probably plenty of those, now lost to history. They are talking about inspired Scripture. The Holy Spirit blows where he wills, and that is where the authority of the Bible comes from. The councils just had the authority to recognize it…and again, they had it from the Holy Spirit.

Well, then I’d sound like a Protestant. I am into the history of Christ and his church more so than anything else. Also the history aspect of the bible, early church fathers, etc…
When I need to complain about something, or I am having a pity party, I look at the prayer card in which Jesus is beaten and his wrists are tied. It isn’t pleasant to look at, but then I cannot complain.

Indeed, their writing’s were not competitive, but complimentary…

The one having been knocked off his horse, and the other receiving direct orders from Christ while He was on earth, their writings were indeed inspired by the Holy Spirit.

However, I do forget which one it was that said he prayed we would all be like-minded?

I stand corrected. You are right - there was no canon of Scripture yet, in their day.

Let me rephrase the question.

In the documents through which they were searching, did they find the words, “Jesus son of Joseph the carpenter in Nazareth is God the Second Person made man.”

Or did they simply find nothing that contradicts this idea?

I doubt it. Do you know? They probably ran down to the nearest synagogue and asked to read the scrolls. I would have done this.

If they had found, as you say, this information on Joseph, then we would see a human condition placed upon His incarnation that did not exist. It wasn’t in His plan and would, I think, have given into titles, positions, and put men equal to Jesus, etc. The man (Joseph) would have been worshipped as well…that’s pride!

That gives us the “how.” What did they find written in there? Did they find explicit information about Jesus, or just that St. Paul’s accounts of Christ don’t contradict the Messianic prophecies?

What in the world are you talking about?
