Peoria Catholic Charities Withdraws from State Social Service Contracts

The State continues to try to muscle the Catholic Church out of social service programs. Very sad. 😦
 
It is sad for children who are increasingly viewed by the state as commodities to be distributed upon request. You must distribute these commodities to cohabiting and to homosexual couples on an equal basis as heterosexual married couples. The Church obviously can not be a party to such policies which are abusive to children.
 
Correct me if I’m wrong…this sounds like a good thing from the perspective of the diocese following Church teaching as opposed to being dictated to by the State. Is that correct?

It is a good thing that the diocese follows Church teaching. That is certainly to be expected. It is a bad thing that the diocese will no longer be able to accept contracts from the state to help provide foster care and adoptions, because it was providing a beneficial service to families and children. And it’s a bad thing for official state policy to require placements with cohabiting and homosexual couples; that’s bad for children.

And it’s a bad thing that those several hundred people who work for the adoption/foster care arm of Peoria’s Catholic Charities now are potentially out of a job. And if they are able to stay on with this newly formed entity that will take over all of their cases, then they have to decide if they can in good conscience place children in a situation that they see as morally problematic.

This saddens me greatly. I’m not one to go chasing after conspiracy theories, but it’s hard not to see this as concerted effort to push the Catholic Church out of social services. They pass laws requiring all hospitals (Catholic or not) to offer abortion and contraception. The Church then has no choice but to close their hospitals. They pass laws requiring all adoption and foster care agencies (Catholic or not) to place children with homosexual or cohabiting couples. The Church then has no choice but to close their adoption and foster care agencies. I’m just waiting for them to turn their attention to our Catholic schools. 😦
