Or was it just a joke, Valke2?
Youâre right BTW I have to preface my comments because I know Christians will almost always bring up Josephus (thereâs not much else.)Ironically the reference in Josephus is most suspect and most historians think it has been tampered. The reference describes the resurrection of Jesus, btw.
The best âproofâ, IMHO, is from early Christian writings like the gospels. And probably the cryptic reference to Yeshua in the Talmud. Haha.
If you read his reply to my query on the tractate, you know it is.Or was it just a joke, Valke2?![]()
Its just that I feel I am a poor example of what a religious Jew should be like, and so I wonât adopt a title unless I am 100% sure I can live up to it, 100% of the time. I refuse to be a hypocrite. Granted, I may be far more observant than most Jews, but Iâm not as observant as I would like to be.In case you find yourself not always up to the beautiful name of âobservantâ Jew? At least, you take it seriously, and you certainly sound like youâre trying your very best, and thatâs not a small thing, au contraire! It certainly counts in the eyes of God!
âŚI thought thatâs what the word âOrthodoxâ meant, but you shed some light on things I had no idea about.
So, Chassidim are Orthodox, and non-Chassidim (in Europe, I mean) are equally Orthodox⌠And the Mittnaggim? Is it just a synonym for non-Chassidim?
Whoever would live up to it 100%, 100% of the time would have to be the Lord Almighty Himself, Iâd say! To try and try again, get up once we have fallen down and persevere to the end is the best that we can reach here on earth, from what I understand. Same for us Christians, same for all those who follow their conscience in seeking whatâs good for everybody, what is best. Its just that I feel I am a poor example of what a religious Jew should be like, and so I wonât adopt a title unless I am 100% sure I can live up to it, 100% of the time. Most Jews do not identify themselves that way, anywayâŚmost Jews just say, âIâm Jewishâ, they donât get into which kind unless its pertinent to the discussion.
BTW Happy Pesach, Valke, Icemoon and others, and to those others here who observe it (starts tommorrow night).
Just a jokeOr was it just a joke, Valke2?![]()
If you play the Talmud backward, you can actually hear the Lordâs prayer.
I guess I should have The Joy of Yiddish near me and keep a few other things in mind when I read you. I wasnât sharp when I read it.Just a joke![]()
A gentile who TRULY loves the Jewish people will do exactly as our Jewish Lord, Yeshua HaMashiach commanded us:Do you understand what a Jewish countermissionary is? We do NOT try to get Gentiles to leave their nonJewish religions, we simply try to RETURN Jews to the religion of their BIRTHRIGHT.
Jews, unlike Gentiles, have a DIVINE COVENANT with God, which is eternal. It is not the same as a âreligionâ, though it is seen that way by others.
Gentiles are free to adopt any religion they wish; this is because they do not have a Divine Covenant with God.
The Messiah will not come until all Jews are truly following the Torah God commanded us to follow. If they join pagan and other non-Jewish religions and stop keeping Torah, this will not happen.
If a Gentile TRULY loves the Jewish people as they often claim to, they will encourage all Jews to STAY JEWISH and keep Torah.
Gee: If my bishop told me not to hang out on a Catholic message board, Iâd tell him very kindly that it was none of his business.BTW I attended a Chasidic Passover Seder Sunday night, with the rabbi of the synagogue we attend. I told him of my experiences on this forum, and he said that normally, he would never sanction a Jew hanging out on forums like this, but due to my extensive knowledge of Judaism, he feels its a plus for me to be here, for various reasons. I was surprised to hear him say that!
What surprised you in what he said? You seem so really rooted in Judaism in such a way that I would tend to agree with himâŚBTW I attended a Chasidic Passover Seder Sunday night, with the rabbi of the synagogue we attend. Yeah, you might catch our evil gentile/christianity. Best to stay away from us nasty Christians.BTW I attended a Chasidic Passover Seder Sunday night, with the rabbi of the synagogue we attend. It can be helpful to Catholics to know a little more, in a positive sense, about Judaism. Many times we read the negative things, such as for example, a few negative passages quoted out of context from the Talmud or a reference to the book by Father Pranaitis or more recently Israel Shahak.BTW I attended a Chasidic Passover Seder Sunday night, with the rabbi of the synagogue we attend. Well, thatâs what my rabbi friend felt. He said that many Christians are woefully ignorant of genuine Jewish beliefs and customs (just as many Jews are also woefully ignorant of Christian beliefs and customs). He felt perhaps if my presence could educate Christians a bit, it would be well worth the while. It can be helpful to Catholics to know a little more, in a positive sense, about Judaism. This is the correct forum, in my opinion, to discuss topics which would help a Christian understand better some of the more positive aspects of Judaism.Well, thatâs what my rabbi friend felt.
