God resurrected Jesus from the dead child of David and Bathsheba into Mary’s womb. Like He raises these bones here:

Ezekiel 37:4-5 Again he said unto me, Prophesy upon these bones, and say unto them, O ye dry bones, hear the word of the LORD. Thus saith the Lord GOD unto these bones; Behold, I will cause breath to enter into you, and ye shall live:

If Adam returned to dust and bones in death…

Quran 3:59 Lo! the likeness of Jesus with Allah is as the likeness of Adam. He created him from dust, then He said unto him: Be! and he is.
By all that is holy…
It’s been quite a while since I’ve seen THIS kind of blatant heresy…
That’s gonna take a while to live down…

Jesus is NOT the dead son of David, because then He would have an earthly father, which He, we know from Scripture, did not.
And there ends the matter.

Jews were forced to be baptized in the Middle Ages. Some of my mother’s ancestors from Spain were Jews who had to leave Spain to save their lives because they refused to become Catholics.

Don’t they teach the history of the Inquisition in Catholic schools?
Running the risk of getting a major entertainment corporation on my tail, I’m gonna quote from Braveheart:

“Stop changing the subject and answer the freakin’ question”…

Are any Jews TODAY (as you well know was what was meant) forced to accept the truth?
Plus, an answer to twopekinguys’ questions would also be greatly appreciated…

I don’t know if you realize this or not, but Judaism believes in transmigration of souls; its in the Kabbalah.
You mean it is a kabbalistic teaching. Kabbalah is not a book. I wouldn’t call reincarnation/transmigragion a pillar of Judaism. Like many things, you can find some rabbis to support it.

Just read David Goldstein’s 1943 book. This clears up the many lies that have been formed over the years regarding the Spanish Inquisition and the church.
This man of Jewish faith also converted to the Catholic faith. The website is www.trosch.org/for/inquisition.html

Really? How many? HOw many Jews have you spoken to who say “I reject Kabbalah” and what would that mean to you?
Didn’t you read in the newspapers, when Madonna was in Israel with her Kabbalah, they were not receptive to her? Some were interviewed and said they were not into it. They feel it is nothing more than a falsification of the faith. Honestly, even Jewish friends I have laugh at it.

Are you leaving or hanging around? It seems that when you tell a group “I’m outta here”, and a day later you’re still hanging around, you give the impression that you really don’t want to leave.

Is that the case? Deep down inside you feel the truth starting to harken you to reality? That’s it, isn’t it? Don’t be shy.

I only found this forum a few days ago, while doing an online Google for customs and legends surrounding Holy Week (I was looking up something my late mother had told me years ago).

That online search led me to this forum, where there was a thread about the subject I was researching.

I have to say that, until I came here, I had never once in my 48 yrs had a Roman Catholic proselytize me. That was a major reason why I have always felt far closer to Catholics than to Protestant fundamentalists (many of whom have disgusted me with their blatant attempts to proselytize me, including a “born again” nurse who had the nerve to try to missionize me in the hospital room where my mother lay terminally ill.)

I really thought Catholics were different, nicer, more respectful of the beliefs of others (at least in more modern times, anyway). And with many of you, that is the case.

What Christians don’t realize is, when you shove your beliefs onto others even after they clearly inform you they are not interested (and in fact, can adequately show why they don’t believe in your faith), you really turn people off.

I have worked with devout Catholics in both the pro-life and homeschool communities, and we have always gotten along so well. We have found much common ground on moral issues. And none have ever tried to proselytize me.

I find I am feeling differently about Catholics since being here, and I don’t like it. I want to believe that (most) Catholics are truly decent people who learned their lessons from the days of the Inquisition, and who believe in the American princple of respect for the religions of others.

But I think for me to return to the feelings I had previously, I need to leave this forum. I wish that were not true, but it seems it is.

I have been a countermissionary for almost 30 years. This means I have done volunteer work to get impressionable young Jews out of cults, and yes, out of mainstream Christian and other non-Jewish groups as well. We have had a very high success rate.

But I am also active in the ecumenical mvmt, which means I work to try to find common ground between Jews and Christians. Because of this, I work to help Jews understand Christianity, and to help Christians understand Judaism. There is too much hate and bigotry on BOTH sides, and I work to help end this.

But it won’t end until the “my religion is better than yours” business stops. I doubt that will happen any time soon here, so I have to say Shalom to you all.

Shalom aleichem/pax vobiscum,

Carol’s Daughter
if that is what you thought about Catholics for all these years, then why didn’t you listen to God and become Catholic?

Also, why take the example of a few amongst the billion catholics in the world and use that as an excuse to hate Catholics.

It seems to me that you were looking for any reason to say what you have said here, just looking for one example.

Sweetheart, the weeds will grow amongst the wheat until harvest, as Jesus stated. So you found a few overzealous weeds maybe.

No big deal, take it with a grain of salt. The weeds do not make the faith less True.

Then you do not understand Judaism. Check out Proverbs 16:6, and also my sig line quote for more info.
Is it, or is it not a requirement for an orthodox Jew to go to the Temple?

Where is the Temple?

It was a Good-bye-cruel-world post, though. And that kind of post isn’t taken seriously. If the OP didn’t like the forums,he would have left without comment. There’s a reason he posted before leaving, and they stayed around to see what affect the gbcw post had on the Catholics who post here. I’ve seen this done so many times. It’s nothing new.
And if you had read my posts, you’d know that I’m a SHE, not a he. The handle “CarolsDAUGHTER” might have given you a clue.

As for the Inqusition, I know there was the Papal and the Spanish. The one I’m referring to is the Spanish.

And it doesn’t matter how long ago they happened, they were done by the Catholc church.

And I know that the Holy Office (of the Inquisition) is now called the Sacred Congregation for the Propagation of the Faith.

And I know its activities were not abolished in Spain until the 1800s.

As for my post, I posted it because some of the members here had PMed me and I didn’t want them to think I’d just left for no reason.

I’ve stuck around only because I felt some might have questions for me (and I see they did); I will be gone in a few, don’t worry.

You are confusing the two. The Spanish inquisition was started by the Spanish monarchy, as I have stated before. It was started in 1478. The Roman inquisition, which you are calling a Papal inquisition was before that, and started in the 12th century. You’re comparing apples to oranges here. Try doing a simple google search for “Spanish Inquisition”, and another search for “inquisition”. You will find they are different events.

You started a thread to let people that PMed you know that you were leaving? A simple response to their PM would have sufficed, I don’t think a new thread was necessary. But then that goes to proseltyzing doesn’t it?

Again, I refer you to my earlier post. (#71 I believe) Would you care to answer the rest of the questions posed there, or shall we call it done?

I couldn’t care less if you’re a woman or a man–it’s irrelevant to the discussion.

I didn’t say that when they happened mattered.

BTW, there were more than 2 inquisitions.

You didn’t answer the question. You were posting as if you know a lot about the inquisitions. How many were killed during the inquisitions?

And you couldn’t have PM’d those few people back? You had to make a public post???😉

Anyone who has left Judaism, did so of there own choice. Like I said previously, I have never seen anyone being dragged to the Baptismal Font.

By you trying to turn them back to Traditional Judaism, aren’t you in fact proselytizing them? Why else would you be coming to a Catholic board, Baptist, or whomever?

Just so I know where you’re coming from; If you are/were unahppy with the proselytizing why not just stop coming? What purpose does starting a thread and announcing your possible departure serve? Could it be just one form of proselytizing on your part?
I’ll answer your question, since you’ve asked me to, and then I will be gone.

Yes, Jews have been forced to the baptismal font. Check your history books on that. It may have been by church prelates or by Catholic monarchs, regardless, IT HAS BEEN DONE BY CATHOLICS. My mother’s ancestors did not leave Spain because they felt the weather would be better elsewhere! They were FORCED to go for fear of their lives if they did not become Catholics. They wound up becoming Catholics later (but as anusim, or “marranos”), because they were tired of fleeing from yet another place that the Inquisition had by then spread to.

To try to get Jews to return to their birthright religion, is not proselytizing. Proselytizing is when you try to convert people already in their birthright religion, to another religion.

If you feel it is OK to try to convert Jews to Christianity, then why should I speak out against people like Jack Chick trying to convert Catholics to Protestantism? Maybe he is JUST as justified as Catholicism would be in trying to convert people to their faith?

Frankly, I wish I’d never found this board during my Google search for legends about holy week. The Catholics I knew up until now are decent people who respect the religious faith of others, and only try to convert “unchurched” people (people who do not have a religious faith.) What I feel from some of you (NOT ALL, some of you have proven yourselves to be truly decent people) is that you are Catholic versions of the Protestant fundamentalists I have come to know and be annoyed by.

I get a “Deus vult” mentality here from some of you that is very unsettling. FWIW, those of you who act like that have no room to criticize the Jack Chicks of the world, because in some ways you are behaving the very same way.

I’ll remember my experience here, that’s for sure.

There were numerous inquisitions. There was never one called the “Papal” inquisition, but there was an Italian Inquisition.
And it doesn’t matter how long ago they happened, they were done by the Catholc church.
Of course it matters when they happened. It also matters who did them and whether they were acting within the guidelines of Church teaching. Church law, for example, only permitted four inquisitors in a country at any one time so they were often spread pretty thin.

It is important to understand that all of the inquisitions, including the Spanish, had jurisdiction only over Catholics. Jews and Moslems were exempt. Thus it is one of the ongoing myths about the Spanish Inquisition that Jews were tortured.

In fact, Jews were expelled from Spain in 1492, only 14 years after the Inquisition was established. Moslems were finally expelled in 1502. These expulsions were not by the Inquisition or the Church, but by the Spanish Crown; King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella.

Modern secular scholarship is refuting the “Black Legend” and the view that that the Spanish Inquisition was a huge, cruel and merciless engine of oppression. See the works of Henry Kamen (a non-Catholic) and Edward Peters.
And I know that the Holy Office (of the Inquisition) is now called the Sacred Congregation for the Propagation of the Faith.
Actually, it is called the Congregation of Doctrine of the Faith. The current prefect is Cardinal LeVada former Archbishop of San Francisco and Portland Oregon. His predecessor is now the Pope.
And I know its activities were not abolished in Spain until the 1800s.
That is correct. It was established in 1478 and was finally disbanded in 1834.
As for my post, I posted it because some of the members here had PMed me and I didn’t want them to think I’d just left for no reason.

I hope none of the PMs were rude. That is always uncalled for.

And Christians have been killed for refusing to recant. It has been done by Jews, pagans and atheists.

They wound up becoming Catholics later (but as anusim, or “marranos”), because they were tired of fleeing from yet another place that the Inquisition had by then spread to.
And how did half of America’s ancestors end up here? A shipwreck? They fled persecution, very often because they were Catholic.
To try to get Jews to return to their birthright religion, is not proselytizing. Proselytizing is when you try to convert people already in their birthright religion, to another religion.
I think the idea of assigning thoughts and feelings to others based on their presumable forbears is a little dangerous.
If you feel it is OK to try to convert Jews to Christianity, then why should I speak out against people like Jack Chick trying to convert Catholics to Protestantism? Maybe he is JUST as justified as Catholicism would be in trying to convert people to their faith?
Chick is perfectly justified in trying to convert people. His error is that he believes he wrong people and doesn’t do his homework. A simple background check would have spared him the ideas he got from Alberto Rivera, Rebecca Brown, Charles Chiniquy, Alexander Hislop and John Todd.

You equate decency with evangelizing only atheists or agnostics, then? They have their own worldviews, which they have feelings about. Isn’t truth good? Shouldn’t it be shared with all? If not, why should it matter what anyone believes? Either there is objective truth, and it is right to share it, or there is none, and you have no right to tell anyone what to do, or the only bad thing is trying to change others, regardless of original religion. Your attitude that it’s OK to proselytize atheists but no other people is new to me. I can’t imagine what it’s based on.

The Spanish Inquisition was operated by the Spanish government, which has never been an agency of the Catholic Church. And by the way, in the 300 years of its operation, it killed fewer than half the number of people that your own government has killed in the last five years, for disagreeing with democracy.
And I know that the Holy Office (of the Inquisition) is now called the Sacred Congregation for the Propagation of the Faith.
Different Inquisition; I don’t know whether that one has ever killed anybody at all - if so, it’s been a really long time since it did.

Don’t get upset because Catholics, on a Catholic discussion board, are defending their faith against twisted facts you present. (intentional or not)

I still have to pursue the question that I asked, as well as Kalt.

Why start a thread to announce your departure, instead of just replying to their PM’s?

Carolesdaughter,
If your experience with Catholics was so great, if that is what you thought about Catholics for all these years, then why didn’t you listen to God and become Catholic?

Also, why take the example of a few amongst the billion catholics in the world and use that as an excuse to hate Catholics.

When Jews say Gentiles have no relationship with God – it doesn’t matter if they are Hindus or whatever – I tend to think they view Gentiles as like dumb animals who don’t need any religion or anything from God.
Yes, this seems to sum up what she has been saying.

And yes, we do have a divind covenant with God, it is a new Covenant through Jesus Christ, the Messiah.

I don’t see any other Messiah’s coming unless you mean the second coming of the one who has already come once.

This is quite offencive that you expect that we would understand that Jews need to be Jewish because of their ethnicity, but what gentiles do doesn’t matter anyway because they have no covenant with God.

Strange logic.
