The child would be Chinese without being Oriental.

There are also many Orientals who aren’t actually Chinese, and don’t even have Chinese ancestry - for example, their ancestors could be from Japan, or Korea, or Vietnam - or perhaps even certain parts of Russia.

I have absolutely no idea - this is the Internet. It would depend on where your citizenship is. If you have American citizenship, then you are an American, and if you have German citizenship, then you are German.

As for me, I am Canadian, with Scottish and American ancestry.

Hence, to be chinese is to show racial characteristics. For western babies who may in the future live permanently in china, I would assume that the chinese would refer to ancestry of the baby to describe his race and nationality.

Oriental is an outdated term, and many people of asian decent find the term offensive.

People refer to Vietnamese as oriental, japanese as oriental, etc., and they are actually, Chinese, Vietnamese, Japanese,etc.

Ahh, but I have a bit of proper evidence to throw in here… Steve Martin in “The Jerk” thought that he was black until he was in his 30’s or 40’s… What do you have to say about THAT??
