Peri-menopause sucks

I remember perimenopause and how terrible it was. I don’t want to scare you, but mine started in my late 30’s and didn’t end until I was 55. I was always anemic, I had fibroid tumors. I was a single Mom and couldn’t have a hysterectomy because there was no one to help me take care of my son while I recuperated. I had hormonal migraines the last 4-5 years. It was horrible. I prayed and prayed for it to stop.
Finally it did. However, postmenopause hasn’t been that great either. I thought I would have a lot of energy since I would not be anemic anymore, but that has not been the case. Loss of energy and depression!
Hang in there!
Oh you poor dear, this sounds like me. 😦

I thought of some more. Having to tie a sweatshirt around your waist in the 7th grade and hope nobody notices before you get home sucks. Having other kids talk about why you aren’t getting in the pool at camp sucks. Also, post-natal pee sneezes suck.
Preach it sister…can I get an Amen!

Well, pregnancy pee sneezes suck too but the post-natal ones that involve sutures?

Yeowch!

Ditto that. Darn…forgot about those. Now DH has to get me some ice cream! 😃

But the good so often out weighs the negative. I don’t remember liking being pregnant much, but on the other hand, my hair and fingernails were phenomenal! Bonus benefit - my acne went away. Menopause was great for me as I finally caught up with my husband, who had prostate cancer years ago. Breastfeeding - once I got the hang of it and when the “little nipper” didn’t bite - was awesome.

I know that for some people, every thing is painful and a problem, but for most of us, it’s how we look at it.
I swear…God ups his game with pregnant women. He throws us the weirdest bones.

“You’re going to be absolutely miserable for 9 months but you’ll look spectacular in the process!”

No acne, glowing/radiant skin, full and silky hair, gorgeous nail beds…but you’re just miserable.

I had all of that…plus I gained almost no weight during any of my pregnancies…and looked the best and most refreshed during the third!

Now that I’m PP…all of the trappings of being a women have come roaring back…acne, dark circles, my hair is falling out and my hormones are wacked out again.

With any luck this will be me soon. (I say that tongue in cheek cause I know it won’t be fun. :o) But, I’ve been begging the doctor for a hysterectomy/oophorectomy. Im only 33, but it is the only true help for Endometriosis. The laproscopies both failed and symptoms return just a couple cycles after surgery. So I will be intently reading the posts of my older sisters in Christ to know what to be expecting, and tips for getting through it. Thanks in advance for your words of wisdom! 👍

I actually lost 36 pounds during my first pregnancy, and I’ve lost about 20 during this one. I attribute it to the progesterone pills, which are making my metabolism normal. Plus I’m eating healthier food. It’s definitely not morning sickness, because I didn’t have any with my first and with my second, I almost only got sick in the morning, before I ate anything. All told, pregnancy has been the most successful weight loss program I’ve tried! (Disclaimer: Results may vary.)

I don’t deny any of what people have said here about what is, or has, happened to them.

I just want to put out there for someone that has not had experience with it yet, that it may not be like this for you.

I realize I may be in the minority, but I did not experience a lot of what most of you are writing about. In fact, my experience was such that I had an epiphany one day. Hey, I must be done, lol! 😉

I am now 5 years post menopause with no problems. Life is nice.😉

So, I just want to say, I know I might be in the minority, but it is not always terrible. I am just saying this so someone reading this has some hope that there may be a chance it won’t be a terrible life.

Interesting.

I often hear the opposite. Pregnancy accompanied by weight gain.

Pregnancy is weird.

I had gestational diabetes my last pregnancy. I started the pregnancy as a big girl, but thanks to the gestational diabetes and eating a diabetes diet, I gained a net of 12 pounds, 9 pounds of which was baby. Within 6 weeks postpartum while doing nothing (except a little walking and eating all the stuff I couldn’t while gestational diabetic), I was 20 pounds lighter than when I started the pregnancy. I bottomed out at 30 pounds lighter than when I started the pregnancy at about 9 months postpartum, with just breastfeeding and walking.

Then I gained it all back within two years–every single pound.

I personally find pregnancy not that bad with regard to weight gain. My nemesis is toddler time, when they’re no longer breastfeeding much but they eat yummy crackers 6 times a day.

I believe perimenopause is also associated with weight gain.

If you are female, I think everything that keeps you on this side of the grass leads to either unwanted weight gain or unwanted weight loss. 😃

If you are afflicted with unwanted weight gain, you will have the added affliction of other people expressing misplaced self-satisfaction that you would be at the right weight if they were running your body. If you are afflicted with unwanted weight loss, OTOH, you will have the added affliction of having other people express misplaced envy. If you are male, you will face the iron-clad expectation that you withhold all opinions about anything having to do with female diet and exercise, at least to the degree that you value your bodily integrity. (Humans. Go figure…)

Are you sure they need to take both ovaries? One of those plus removal of all else may solve the problem, if and when.

BTW I like posting links, like the Hyster Sister forum site. Figured this is a good thread for that.
