Don’t be silly. If we are taught by Christ to wash another’s feet … we first need to hold hands and get acquainted. :hug3:
That doesn’t really make sense. If we are truly connected spiritually in the Our Father, why would we need to connect physically? I think it undermines the “power”, for lack of a better word, of the prayer.

EDIT: I will add though that there is no definitive teaching either way on the matter so you are free to hold hands as you wish.

This Morning I held Jesus in my hands and then followed his admonition to eat hos body and drink his blood. How can a relationship get more personal than that?
i’m speaking in the context of “personal relationship” that is propagated by some Protestant sects

and when you receive the Eucharist, you become part of the One Body, which is the Church. the heresy being propagated is all we need is a one-on-one relationship with Christ. but the One Body is the Church, thus we are not only one with Christ, we are one with one another who are all one with Christ.

if we receive in the hand… there is danger that someone will take Him out of the Church, without ingesting the Host…

it seems to me that the Church is not showing proper reverence toward Jesus… and that is probably what mother Teresa was upset about…

if a person or group that belongs to some witchcraft or demonic sect wants to kidnap the host, i don’t think COTT would deter them

there are more ways to desecrate the Host than just what witches of demon worhsippers do…

Jesus is supposed to stay in the Church… is what i have always believed…

Without the opportunity to recieve Jesus in the Flesh any “personal realtionship” is pale shadow of the real thing.
this is going on my Facebook status for Corpus Chrisit, for all my Protestant friends to read 👍

I trust the Church to guide us in this area.

our relationship with Jesus Christ is a communal one. we are all part of one Church, which is a community of believers, and this Church is One with Jesus Christ (the bride, the mystical body)

there is no “personal” relationship with Jesus. its not a one-on-one relationship between us and Jesus, but rather a relationship with Jesus and His Church, which is ALL OF US
That is sad!

God is Spirit. When your spirit communes with God’s Spirit then you have a personal relationship with Him. You walk with God as Enoch, as Noah walked with God.

i trust no one…

i trust the Church… but umm… how do we know those in the hierarchy of the Church… really should BE there…?🤷

i trust JESUS and the Church He established… which is the Roman Catholic Church… but… well… some of those hierarchy… Yikes!:hypno::hmmm::coffeeread::hypno:

Lacking the “real presence” what you are settling for is like the difference between hugging your child and looking at a picture of them

so true…

most parents would prefer the former to the latter…

my parents being the exception, of course…

They would prefer neither… 🙂

That is sad!
why is it sad? i don’t want to hoard heaven just for myself. when (if) i get there, i expect everyone to be there with me, all glorifying God in His presence

why does it have to be one-on-one only?

sedevacantists!!!

you cannot trust the Holy Spirit will ensure that the Church is free from doctrinal error?
you cannot trust in Jesus when he said that the gates of Hades will not prevail against His Church?
how can you call yourself a Catholic?

we are all to be the One Body that is the Chuch, with Christ as our head
we are not communing with God alone, God communes with each of us individually, and all of us together, all at the same time. and we commune with God and with each other, in His Glory, in heaven

here’s a visual represtantation of what i’m talking about:

Now you are thinking like a Protestant does. :tsktsk: We are not disembodied spirits.

We teach we don’t receive the Spirit of Christ alone in the Eucharist — but also the physical body/blood. And, its not enuf to pass by a neighbor in distress … and wish them well in our thoughts. We are obligated to take them in and bind their physical wounds. The human touch is a powerful necessity for us … as Christ taught us when he used the physical touch to heal sinners.

And, the most powerful demonstration of this is the way we receive our Baptism of Holy Ghost. We are Confirmed by Christ … when the priest/pastors lay hands upon us. W/O this human touch … the Apostles and ECF’s did not believe the H.S. was received. Also, we MUST have physical water touch us and cleanse us of sins … unless we are dieing the death of a martyr … w/o access to water baptism. And, we are not allowed to go jump in a lake and baptize ourselves. It takes human hands to perform the rite upon us.

i somewhat agree…

but how does Mark Antony’s post disagree w/ yours??

i agree w/ him… we do NOT need to hold hands or be physical in order to benefit from prayers… presumably what is being spoken of is hand-hodling during Mass… ???

but it doesn’t really matter… i agree w/ him…

no need to insult him by saying he is thinking like… those outside the fold…

Yes, but there was a good reason the Church encourages us to join hands and pray in unison. It is not a meaningless tradition.

Just because it may not of been the tradition before Vat. 2 … doesn’t mean we are wrong to promote handholding today. If it is good and enjoyed by our children [which it is — they love the unity it promotes] … it is worthy/desirable for adults.

Whenever I’m in Mass and all link hands on this occasion … invaribly there as some [usually the older adults] who won’t offer their hand. As if they will get our germs

… and same goes for the common cup, when some won’t receive for fear of getting germs from the Catholic folk. Did not the 12 all drink from the same cup … and we are taught to do likewise.
