Pete Buttigieg and the growing Protestant divide

I’m not sure what the motivation for this article is by making comparisons between Trump and Buttigieg, I mean are evangelicals being hypocritical by choosing Trump over Buttigieg or more circumspect in that Buttigieg’s brand of Christianity (Episcopalian) is very secularized in comparison to traditional Christianity and so are his politics?

It’s not for nothing that mainline (liberal) Protestantism is losing adherents faster than any religious denomination!

(Evangelicals object to Mayor Pete’s gay marriage but overlook Trump’s serial sexual sins? What?)
Here is a reason that Catholics my feel this way. (I’m not sure what every evangelicals groups position is on SSM so I can’t speak for them) Every person is able to repent of his/her sins and be forgiven. The words of Christ speak to this often in scripture, “Go and sin no more”. As Catholics we here something similar in confession every time we go.

Pete Buttigieg is not repentant of his sin of engaging in homosexual activities and is not ceasing this activity.

From some responses I’ve received regarding this very situation is many feel (I’m saying you personally because I don’t recall if you have been part of those discussions) that forgiveness and God’s mercy are for all humans except Trump. The basic premise being that they judge Trump to awful for God’s grace.

The only problem with this argument is that Trump I two national interviews basically said he never had reason to ask God for forgiveness for anything he has ever done. Basically saying he has never done anything requiring forgiveness.
Of which his three wives and multiple girlfriends are only a part.
Thing is, if mayor Pete got the nomination, the campaign against him would draw out anti gay hatred plain and simple

I’m grappling with that. Not the hatred. Just the question of whether I could vote for him, and whether the country is ready for that.

I’m not sure the county is ready for a gay President. Maybe it would be more true to say parts of the country aren’t ready for that. I think that we (Christians) have lost the culture wars, so it’s probably inevitable, but…

My basic feeling about the Mayor is that if he was not gay, he would hands down be the best candidate by far. He is generally moderate, so most could live with him. He is a combat vet. And anyone who listens to him understands that he is a talented speaker and has a pretty attractive perspective on many issues.
So it is his Gay status most contemplate when we consider his negatives. And ironically, he is quite Midwest and understated about gay issues. If anything he seems to invoke his faith MORE than any other Democrat. And in pleasing ways generally accepted by most which is a real positive. His Christian ideas are generally identified positive. He articulated them then after we feel positive he subtly let’s you know, hey that comes from my faith. Christian based rather than Tribal based, where the focus turns to camps rather than the Gospel and it’s profound attractiveness. This is how we win back hearts, not as militants crushing people.
I thought Carter did this well. First you saw 50 years of sweat and Bonafides in things like Habitat for Humanities, then an understated, " his faith guides that behavior."
This is always the truly powerful Evangelical message. The one we should have blindly accepted the day Jesus said," Love one another as I have loved you…This is how they will know you are my deciples…"
We should have also realized OF COURSE GOD WOULD BE THE BEST PR MAN IF HE DESIRED TO BE. LOL.

I would have no problem with a gay president.
He/she would simply have to be a constitutional conservative.
Mayor Pete’s sexual preference would not keep me for voting for him. Even his heterodox misrepresentation of scripture wouldn’t.
His extreme progressivism would.

You and I disagree on this, but I would take that instead of what we have now, which is extreme crazy.
That’s a fair characterization of The Speaker, but irrelevant.
Are you saying you would vote for extreme progressivism?

Jon, Jon, Jon, You know to whom I was referring. 😉

That’s a good question. I am against progressivism. I also think Trump is unqualified. So, I would have to determine which is more of a danger to the country.

That doesn’t change The accuracy of my comment. 😉

Progressivism is the greatest single danger to individual rights and the republic.
Trump is, obviously, qualified. He meets all of the constitutional qualifications and was duly elected. You might think he shouldn’t be president because of his personality. You might not like his tweets and his manner. You might find his lifestyle to be disgusting, and you might not like his policies. But he is clearly qualified.

Nancy P is not crazy by any stretch of the imagination. I think she is well grounded and a good tactician. I don’t agree with her politics, but that’s a different thing.

Progressivism is one of the greatest dangers. WWIII is the greatest danger. A totally destabilized middle east is a great danger. A leader who makes decisions that are dangerous is a danger.

World War lll is far less like now than at anytime since the Cuban Missile Crisis.
Our greatest adversary is China, and there seems no threat from Beijing at this time
The Middle East has been in crisis all of my life and I’m 65, but the biggest destabilizing force there now is Iran. Trump took care of part of that problem.

Uhm, I don’t think he’s taken care of anything. He is destabilizing things.
