How did this come about? Why isn’t it instead John, James et. al. at the pearly gates of Heaven who meets the individual?

Fine with meBecause St. Peter is the man whom Jesus put in charge of His Flock.
That’s Peter’s (and his successors’) earthly role, and is an echo of Isaiah 22:22.I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. RSV: Catholic Edition
Good one!It doesn’t seem to matter who is at the pearly gates. Christ’s mum apparently keeps letting people in the back door![]()
Frank Eaton (aka “Pistol Pete”) 1860-1958 was a late-1800s American cowboy, Indian fighter, blacksmith, sheriff, quick-draw artist and author. Having avenged the murder of his father by six men (shooting five of them), he later said,“Tell Saint Peter at the Golden Gate, that you hate to make him wait but you just got to have another cigarette.”
So, he saw Saint Peter as the judge of those who would enter the Kingdom.“I know St. Peter has me charged up pretty heavy, but unlike a mortal judge, He knows the innermost motive for every deed committed, whether good or evil, and I think He will not be too hard on a poor old cowboy who did his best as he saw it.”
Nah, he is the bouncer holding the clipboard with the list.I’ve often wondered about this too, if this wasn’t the explanation for Protestants that Christ gave the keys of the kingdom to Peter. But it makes it seem that Peter is our ultimate judge and not God.
Jess made this decision on earth,How did this come about? Why isn’t it instead John, James et. al. at the pearly gates of Heaven who meets the individual?

When my cousin became a priest, at the ceremony the Bishop consecrated his hands with sacred oil. After the consecration, he was given a white linen cloth to wipe off the excess oils.
The next day at his first Mass, before it concluded, he announced that Catholic tradition says that he is allowed to give this linen cloth as a gift to someone. He stated that upon the recipient’s death, when they have this cloth they present it to Saint Peter himself upon their entry to Heaven.
He gave it to his mother (my aunt) and I tell you there wasn’t a dry eye in the house![]()
No. You must have the wrong verse.Fine with me
So the “keys” of the Pearly gates held by St. Peter.
Interestingly it was St. John who mentions 12 “Pearls” in 21:21.

I think he is referring to Revelation 21:21 rather than John’s Gospel.No. You must have the wrong verse.
Oops. I missed to put RevelationNo. You must have the wrong verse.
Thank you.I think he is referring to Revelation 21:21 rather than John’s Gospel.
Ok. So you mean Revelation 21:21. But what does that have to do with the keys to the Kingdom? The pearls do not negate that Our Lord selected St. Peter to have authority over His Flock.Fine with me
