So has anything happened Horton? You will post a pic won’t you?
No babies yet but she is very close. She was litter trained and is using the litter box which I am very grateful for, I did not want to clean her little home a couple times a day. She is nesting in the box I set in there for her to have the kittens. She is eating like crazy but will only eat her dry food, not the canned food.

This is her nursery. She has everything she needs in there, even some toys.

This the side deck of my house. She was staying under there. I got her in her nursery the day before we had all that snow again.

I’ll post pictures of the babies when they come. I heard back from the no-kill shelter and they will take momma and all her kittens.

👍 Very nice! 🙂

. I know she isn’t feral as she will let me pick her up and pet her.
Actually, that could be feral. My oldest tamed a born-wild kitten bank in Pennsylvania. It didn’t want to come inside more than the width of the door (and even that took treats), but came to hop in laps, and follow me to the edge of the property when I left in the morning). [Of course, after it got hit by a car months after we moved here, it had no interest going outside . . . and was happy to play the pillow under my daughter’s head when she lay on her bed reading . . .]
I feel horrible for wanting to not have kittens but I don’t know if I could give them away and I don’t want to add to the problem of over population with cats.
Having been adopted by a displaced pregnant cat who gave birth next to our house, I can assure you that it’s not that hard to give away kittens. We ended up keeping one (who later broke a screen to get out and escape . . . we were keeping him inside without letting him out because the stupid thing would sit in the middle of the street whenever he got the chance. We did keep one of the litter to mollify my young girls).

My wife brought the mother inside (it was the 110F time of summer), and she willingly stayed in our bathroom with them until they picked up some size. The mother was also a “following” kind of cat–didn’t want a lap, but wanted to stay at my feet as I sat down and read in an outdoor recliner, and following me from yard to yard. Even sat at my feet as I sawed through a van battery cable with a reciprocating saw!)

Anyway, good work on keeping her for the moment. Also, male cats who don’t want other cats around are sometimes oddly tolerant of kittens. 🤷

The one you said was always trying to get out, was he neutered? Mine I have had he’s about 3-4 yo now. Stays in. I had him neutered and he still sneaks out if I let him. He doesn’t go anywhere. Down to the basement and stays all night if I can’t find him. When he followed me home as a kitten I had a time for a while getting him to stay in. I was trying to get in the front door one when it was raining and heard a meow. I looked behind me and there he was waiting to get in. I didn’t know he got out. 🙂 I just lost my 16 yo in November, so I am glad to have company.

No babies yet but it should be any day now. If she hasn’t had them by Thursday I will take her to the vet. She seems to be content in her nursery and loves to be petted and cuddled. She was an inside cat before she was dumped at my house. She is completely litter trained and wants her box scooped twice a day. I’ll post a picture and update when the kittens arrive.

No–he wasn’t old enough yet. It was coming up, but then he broke the laundry room screen and escaped, and we never saw him again 😦

Thanks for the update. 🙂

I look forward to your next update.

I was wondering if the mama had her kittens yet.

I’m glad that the no-kill shelter will be taking them.

You made a nice little area for her and her kittens. 🙂

UPDATE…Took the cat to my vet and not only is she pregnant but only a week or two from having her babies. I ordered a pet play yard to put in the garage with blankets, a litter box, and a small pet crate so she has a box to have the kittens in when it’s time.

I’ll have to keep them in the play yard at least until she is done nursing and I can get her spayed
Hopefully she had them where you expected. When I was a child we had a cat that had at least 7 litters and you never knew where she would pick to have the kittens. Once in my brothers bed under the blankets at 3 am in the morning. another time under an air conditioner in a window well . These were late at night - all the other times we were able to persuade her to have them in a box with a blanket because we saw her going into labor and we were able to watch as it happened. I love cats I have 3 - 2 black ones because no one would adopt them as soon as I found out that they had been there a year I took them and have not regretted it. People would not take them because they think they are bad luck and evil.I am afraid to go back to the pet rescue store or I will have more black cats.

UPDATE She had five kitties last night. She did great and had them in the box I had prepared for her. I had been keeping in a pet yard in a small shed but she wasn’t having her babies. She finally clawed a hole in the pet yard, she wanted outside desperately so I brought the whole pen onto the patio and patched it up. It was warming up so I felt she would be fine.

She made the hole even bigger but was still using the birthing box. I finally threw the pet yard away, put the birthing box and her food on the patio, praying she would have the kittens in the box and not under the porch. Last night I went to give her some cuddles and she was in the box & wouldn’t come out. I got the flash light (it’s a covered box) and there were two tiny kittens. This morning there were four, and number 5 arrived sometime today.

I’ve been in contact with the rescue shelter and will bring them all over in 3-4 weeks. It will be difficult to give them up, I’ve come to love little momma, I’m sure I will fall in love with all five babies but it is the best thing for them. I can’t have seven cats in the house so they will have to go to another forever home.

That’s great to hear! Are you going to keep the moma cat? What do they look like? :extrahappy:

Awwwh…

Glad momma and the kitties are well! Can your indoor cat see them on the patio? I really don’t think he would mind a female kitten, but I wouldn’t want to expose him until you know the mother doesn’t have any communicable diseases.

Since your other cat has issues, you might look at Jackson Galaxy’s work. He’s really good with cats. I have seen him slowly introduce cats then they get along. Sometimes in some instances even after some serious fighting. It’s something to take a look at anyway.

The kittens and momma are doing great. There are four boys and one girl. The boys all look exactly the same (so far) and the girls is colored differently. I am going to take all of them to the no kill shelter for them to be rehomed. I would love to keep all of them but it isn’t possible. My male has seen the kittens and has interacted with Pip, the momma with very little problem, she doesn’t want him close to the box which if very normal for any momma cat.

Here is a good picture of them about a week ago. The little girl is in the middle of all her brothers.

My male doesn’t have issues, he prefers to be an only cat. I adopted him from the shelter after he had been placed there, adopted out and returned. I give him a forever home and will always provide him a forever home. While these kittens and the momma are part of my heart now, I want them to have the forever home(s) I promised to my cat.

OMG how beautiful.

Awwwhhhh, my heart just expanded! Maybe male cat is lonely. Maybe male cat won’t be able to resist one tiny kitten to share his forever home with. Maybe male cat says, I don’t want all them inside where it is my territory, but maybe just one little pip squeak won’t be so bad if she will clean my ears. 🙂

I understand Horton what you are saying. I was simply looking at things from the point of view of “animal behaviorism”. Which is one reason why I mentioned Jackson Galaxy. Our thinking being that much more complex than animals we say, “He just wants to be the only cat”, for example. If so then in the manner of cats not people. When cats don’t tolerate other cats the reasons are not always so complex. Territory can be one. They don’t think, “I don’t like the looks of this other cat.” Sometimes they need more attention than getting, they need to get higher up. And if you’ve ever had one in your face looking you over. lol…It’s not always “I love you” but more like “Yeah. So you want to be in my way? I’ll take you on!”. And they swipe. In that example, it’s not play.

👍

It is a fact that some cats will not tolerate newcomers to their environment. We had a Siamese named Jade (I loved her dearly, still do in my heart) and I brought home a new gray kitten - we named him Tomas. Anyway, they lived together for years - never got along. Jade never really forgave me - we still had a strong relationship but Tomas was anathema to her. He used to antagonize her too of course. She would get under the covers to sleep at night; Tomas would settle himself right on top of her on the bedspread. Tense situation.

I have had the best luck getting the cats at the same time. Not always from the same litter either. I had a brother and sister who didn’t get along that well until they were six, seven years old. Then for some reason, they totally bonded, for the rest of their lives.

But I have seen cats go into homes with other cats and do just fine. I believe the personality of the cat plays a huge role. Also the people, environment. I think animals are more complex than people give them credit for - I agree we project humanity onto animals but we equally often tend to diminish them into ‘thingness’ almost too. They are not dolls, plants. It is important to give an animal time, space, patience, all that when it enters a new environment - just like you would a person. Relationships grow. This is very true of cats.
