Philippine president says he’ll risk excommunication for legislation
MANILA, Philippines (CNS) – Philippine President Benigno Aquino said he is willing to risk excommunication from the Catholic Church rather than scrap the so-called Responsible Parenthood Bill, reported the Asian church news agency UCA News.

“I remain committed to pushing for the introduction of a law for responsible parenthood … at risk of excommunication, it is my obligation as a leader,” Aquino told graduates from the University of the Philippines.

“In the end I must listen to my conscience and do what is right,” the president said. He said he cannot stand by and watch the cycle of poverty continue as unplanned births spiral.

Am I surprised? no. more and more authorities are free from religion now and days. they free from obeying God. It seems to me that this was stablished some time ago when separation of state and Church was affirmed. therefore that is what happened when governments are ffree rom the teachings of the Church because of some other religions beliefs. it ends with no following the laws of God at all since governments now have to please all and no Church has any more right than any other beliefs. how said for the Church.
Wait a minute, arent we responsible for that? who are we blaming anyway?

Our Lord said that we would always have the poor. Today, people have seeing the poor is something satanic. the purpose of our lives is not to be rich but to live right with God. People seemed to have forgotten this. Fr. Casey said the other day that freedom has become a god to us and have come to almost worship it. Freedom has been misenterpreted and used to advance political agendas. No longer we talk about freedom from sins. that is what Jesus talked about.

i’m truly shocked by this story.
My wife is from there, and I’ve been there many times - never have I seen faith like in the Philippines.
This presidents time would be better spent if he tackled corruption in his country.
It’s corruption, much more than birth rates, thats destroying the Philippines.

I would excommunicate him publically in a New York second. Wouldn’t hesitate, wouldn’t think twice.
