My wife is from the Philippines. I’ve been there many times. We just went there last June where I caught Typhoid Fever and could’ve died. It felt like demons!

I was watching “Criminal Minds” last night and they stated a sociopath is one who’s brain’s frontal lobe has become immune to serutonan, a substance produced by the brain that sedates our moods. This is the result of an MOA gene some people have that overproduces serutonan. I don’t know if this is true and suspect there’s more to it as sociopaths do great evil ie. serial killers etc. Isn’t there a moral thread in there somewhere?
Then contrast that with exorcisms that drive out demons, where good and evil is so pronounced and the evil is being perpetrated by evil spirits. What is the spiritual reality of a sociopath? Demon possessed? Consort w/demons?

If I may be so frank, I actually prefer Fr. Syquia’s book on exorcism than over half of the stuff I’ve read from people on these forums when it comes to the subject. At the very least, there are pages that suggest he is not unwilling to simply stop when the case evidently becomes that of mental illness instead of always assuming it’s a case of possession.

Sounds like an interesting book. I heard that the Church only will allow an excorcism when any kind of mental illness is ruled out and the proof is some manifestation (like levitation) that a human being couldn’t possibly do on their own…although it’s said that Buddhist and Tibetan Zen masters can levitate themselves. And that, of course, is open to opinion; have they unknowingly embraced demons to levitate themselves or is it that even levitation is no longer a sign of demon possession?

Well seeing as how there’s neither sufficient evidence or some moral imperative for me to believe, I can only remain skeptical.
There’s a popular quote attributed to C.S. Lewis that says the Devil takes delight both in the cultist and the non-believer.
However, it’s interesting to note that it doesn’t sound like either can be the dominant thought should the Evil One desire control over the world. If he’s going to have non-believers, he can’t show unexplainable things such as levitation, magic, or transmutation. It would shatter the non-believer’s views towards the laws of science they hail as unbreakable. It would also make the case that should the Devil exist, then therefore God exists.
On the other hand, should he have a world of cultists, it would be pointless to have a non-believer since the powers of the occult are so commonplace and in-your-face. A non-believer in a world of such dark sorcery, trying to make poor scientific explanations for the unexplainable, will only be seen as a lunatic making poor excuses for his blindness.

If the Zen Buddhist levitators are an example of “cultists”, levitation as sponsored by demons in order to make the levitators think they are on the path to heaven might work if God were to do nothing. However, any true conversion to God is initiated by God; even if you’re in the middle of a levitation frenzy.
I think non-believers who only believe in science are a harder bunch to bring to God, as they don’t believe in anything supernatural. However, anyone can hit rock bottom in their lives and open their minds to the existence of God just because they need Him so much at that point. I think God allows that to happen so the non-believer can have a change of heart. Science is not a big comfort for the forlorn.

Well since we are on this subject, I just watch The Rite last night. It’s good to have catholic clergies working for victims of demonic possessions authorized by the Vatican. Modern society often denies the existence of God and considers the devil a fickle of imagination. Well every rational human being will almost always resort to rational explanation of things, even the bizarre manifestations, should have a logical explanation to it. I always think that the greatest lie the devil ever conceived was the idea that he does not exist.
We will be needing more exorcists like Father Jose Francisco Syquia here. We need more of them to exorcise the lower house, the senate, the ombudsman, the judiciary and the palace as well. There are to much demons on the loose.

You’re going to hate me for this There was a documentary on the aliens years ago where they speculated that their spaceships were propelled by something called “bio-energy” (something plants throw off when they grow - can be measured) which literally could transport the ship through millions of miles of interdimensional space and cause the ship to levitate in mid-air ie. lift off or hover like a helicopter. Also, the US Govt has explored various “occult” things like telepathy, clairevoyance (they call it “remote viewing”) and even astrology. Apparently these things work if you’re really trained at it, like a military spy. But that’s TV…

His head was splitting open and he was in terrible pain, like those suffering under possession in the Philippines. And that to me is where an exorcism is a blessing, because it’s helping to alleviate these people’s suffering. Christ is love and we are committed to “charity” which is love.
