This is really good news for Catholics who would want to go on Visita Iglesia but cannot for good reasons (like sickness, living abroad and churches are too far away…etc…) may continue or participate in this wonderful Catholic tradition of visiting 7 churches to pray and meditate on the Life, Passion and Death of Jesus Christ.
This news was reported on television and in newspapers in my country.
I was surprised to learn that Visita Iglesia (Visiting churches) tradition did not start in my country, but in ancient Rome when pilgrims visited different churches there. I believe, other countries have this same tradition as well.
In my country, Maundy Thursday and Good Friday are holidays (that means no work…most big malls are closed) to allow Catholics to celebrate these days of the Holy Week as they wish. Some choose to see this as vacation time and head off to beaches. But many, many Filipinos,like my family still spend this day visiting Churches and doing the Way of the Cross. Last year many of the churches we went to were filled with people praying.
I think Visita Iglesia is a wonderful Catholic tradition.
