One of my favorite fighter jets, the F-86 Sabre Jet. The pilot of the aircraft pictured is Capt. Joseph McConnell Jr., the leading jet ace in the U.S. with 16 confirmed victories. His jet, named “Beauteous Butch,” referred to the nickname of his wife, Pearl “Butch” Brown.

The painting below is of Capt. McConnell with his wingman, another famous fighter pilot, Major John Bolt, USMC. During WWII, Bolt flew an F4U Corsair with VMF-214, also known as the “Black Sheep” under the command of Major Pappy Boyington scoring six victories against Japanese A6M Zeros. Bolt flew 86’s in “MiG Alley” during the Korean War, entering combat through an exchange program with the United States Air Force claiming another six victories against MiG-15’s.

The annual air show was in town this weekend, and although I could not attend this year I was able to see some of the vintage aircraft from the comfort of my back yard.

This is a stock pic of the B17 Texas Raiders one of the few such airworthy B17. My father flew in B 17s during WW II.

My uncle on my mom’s side was KIA as he copiloted this B-25D, shot down over Burma in 1943 🇺🇸

That same year, 1943, my grandfather on my dad’s side served aboard the USS Iowa, and thankfully, he survived the War

A hand salute to your uncle on his sacrifice.
Dad didn’t talk about his experiences very much, and given the horrific casualty rates of Allied bomber crews I know why.

This is a picture taken by a shipmate of mine of a Soviet “Horomone” helo on the Soviet ship Moskva. We were playing chicken with them at the time after they kept buzzing our ship with their helos.
