snort What would Jesus do?

He’d take the pictures and say: “You are sinning.”

That’s what he did with the woman in adultery: “You have had many husbands and the man you are with now is not your husband.”

Generally he never encouraged people to continue in their sin.

It takes more backbone to stand up for your beliefs than to be silent among the crowd. As an old saying goes, “The nail that sticks out gets hammered down.” We are called to be a light on a hill, the salt of the earth, and different from everyone else. I am not advocating confrontation, but one should not show approval toward sin. This is not an either/or situation. The OP doesn’t have to choose between looking at the pictures or calling down hellfire. The OP can satisfy both conscience and grace by politely turning down the offer of viewing the pictures. My further suggestions regarding subsequent actions stem from the observance that many gays portrayed in the media are, at the very least, pushy, especially when faced with those who differ from their view of acceptance. The OP should be prepared for that.

Except that he is. When one shows pictures of an event to another, there is an expectation of sharing the joy of the occasion with that individual, and through that joy, an affirmation of the event. We should not feel joy at seeing the holy institution of marriage turned into the masquerade of sin that it has become. Thus, the gay person is soliciting a particular response by the act. If he was keeping his lifestyle to himself, he would not be seeking to affirm his life through such solicitations.

Why the jump to extreme conclusions? We should not condone their actions, period. We should not support their sin, we should not accept their sin, and we should not sanction it through legal and social institutions. If they want to sin, we can still be kind and charitable to the person, but we do not have see what they do as “normal” or treat it as such.

Honestly, perhaps you should seek therapy.

A baby born from a sinful act is not intrinsically evil. We do not have condone sinful instances of sex to appreciate that God has still brought a new life into the world.

Also, I do not think I am qualified to speak for Jesus specifically. I look at the examples he left, such as the woman caught in adultery. He did not condemn her, but he did not condone further sin.
Your standpoints I can understand somehow you explained it well. Though you can look at the picture without feeling any joy. 🙂 And sin… We all sin, or is it alright for a catholic to sin but not for a gay? In all honesty I have lied to day, I have disrespected my mother today. And I am giving in to my alchol adiction today, also I have surfed the internet for pictures that are not apropiate and I have spilled my seed on the ground twice.

But I am not pushing anyone to do the same sins as me. And I will confess but that does not mean that I am without sin.

You know what I find hardest about it all. If God did not want gay people then why does he create them?

Yes shrug it at some more, it’s so so so bad to share your happiness with others. Obviously you do not go to marriage every day. It’s a special ocassion, when a child is born you also get pictures of the baby. Would you look at that or also say that it is ********?
Well, I am not sure what ******* means, so I can’t say if I would say it or not.

If someone wants to show pictures at work, they should be doing it during lunch or a break. It should be easy to avoid the pictures by eating lunch or actually taking a break.

If pushed, I would state my beliefs.

“I am a Catholic Christian. Marriage is between one man and one woman.”

Yes, he does.
Respect should go both ways. Maybe you can leave before he brings them out, or be out of work that day? Or, if you can manage to-look at them and maybe not say anything that is “opinionated”. Or you can come out and remind him that you are a devout Catholic (but really you shouldn’t have to if he knows) and tell him you wish the best for him. You could say it that way without mentioning the marriage itself. Or you can just refuse to look at them and what ever happens, happens? Probably not much help, but not sure what else is left.

God did not create sinners. Sin came about through choice. We choose to sin, and gays are no different. Homosexuality is not something one is born with, any more than other sins. One must choose to sin.

there’s the social grease that prevents people from being haled before the HR Dept. the OP should find a tube and apply liberally.

Know your bible.

“Not everyone can accept this teaching, but only those to whom it is given. For there are eunuchs who have been so from birth, and there are eunuchs who have been made eunuchs by others, and there are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. Let anyone accept this who can.” (Matthew 19:11-12)

Here Jesus identifies three classes of men who should not marry women. Taking his categories in reverse order, first, there are those who have made themselves “eunuchs” for the kingdom of heaven, i.e., those who foreswear marriage to better serve God. Second, he mentions those who have been “made eunuchs by others,” an apparent reference to castrated males. But Jesus mentions a third category — eunuchs who were born that way. Some might argue that Jesus was referring to males born without testicles, but this would be extremely rare. Moreover, this interpretation ignores how the term “born eunuchs” was used in other literature of the time.

So the last would have to be a gay person.

Why would any co-worker, “gay” or straight be showing off pictures of their wedding at work? .
To share their happiness and include people who are close to them. Considering some people work very closely, spending quite a bit of time with them, it’s not at all uncommon to show some pictures of celebrations at work. We do get breaks and lunches, so it’s not like showing/looking at some pictures takes up work time. One of the girls just had a baby. She left a small photo album at the front desk so that those who were interested could see them.

Just another way to “look at this” but… maybe if you do look at them, you will surprise him. He may be expecting you to say you won’t look at them. But If you can, put his feelings ahead of yours and look at them as a way to be kind to him. That is unless of course you just don’t think you can do it. You can still wish him well without giving him any kind of blessing for the “marriage”.

I do know my Bible, and I’m pretty sure that’s not referring to homosexuality. Having sex with a woman (within the confines of marriage) is not a sin. Homosexual sex is. Eunuchs who were “born that way” may not have a desire for women, but that does not mean they have a desire for men.

But they could? Do you know of any people that have 100% no inerest in sex at all with any gender? And then I am not aiming at people with psychological disords.

I’ll await your reply because I do not know such people.

PS animals also do on gay sex.

I guess to starts to boil down to what is polite, political correctness and what is condoning of a sin and the response to this. This may be a small thing, but many situations of this nature concerning the gay life style, marriage, etc. could certainly be in the future to give one room for thought as to what the faith says about these situations and how we should respond.

I have had a lot of thoughts on this issue after hearing all of your ideas and suggestions.

Seriously? Who is going to be hauled before HR for refusing to look at someone’s wedding pictures? The OP doesn’t have to chew the guy out, he just has to say “no thank you.”

I had to laugh about that. But in all seriousness would Jesus look at the wedding pictures?
I expect if he did look at them, he would have something to say that absolutely WOULD get him hauled before HR.

I think I should stay away from some of these topics. I’m too easily confused in my “young faith”. Not young in age, but young in the fact that I’ve only been practicing it for the last two years of my 40+ year life. I’m just beginning to learn my faith really but I’m just beginning to truly trust God in my life and I’m a questioner myself. When I try to look at things in a more simpler way it’s just so much easier. Why so much focus on homosexuality? I’m not saying don’t talk about it of course, but there are too many questions in life and no one knows for sure why some people are gay. Born that way, God made them that way, they became that way? I don’t know I just don’t know. Like Mother Teresa said “in the end it’s between us and God” something like that. 😦
Look at the pictures, or don’t. It’s your decision OP

Don’t be homophobic
God bless you! 👍

I find most catholics and christians really bad to be focusing on gay topics this much. Gays shouldn’t be shunned they are born that way. It’s stupid to say that being gay is in your own hand. Because for all I could know I could have been born gay.

There’s also people being born in the wrong body. Etc… Stay strong in your faith, I also struggle with topics like this, which is why I will really to do my best to be in these topics and to press for what I see as good.

Stay strong and don’t mind the most people here!

You’re using what’s called anecdotal evidence to try and prove your statement (“I’ve never seen X, Y, Z, so it must not be true.”) I’m not saying there are or aren’t people as such, but the absence of such people in our own experiences does not prove the point.

Also, we are not animals. Our actions are subject to the standards of God, but theirs are not. The two are not comparable.

if he’s adept, he might avoid wrecking a business relationship.

God made animals, God made us, so how are the two not comparable? IF animals can have gay tendencies God must have created them so no? So why would God not have made it htat humans could also have these tendencies?

Well I don’t know what enuch God could talk about if there are no people that are not interested in sex whatsoever he must talk about gay people then. I don’t see another option and surely Jesus was no lunatic that talked about things that do not exist.

For one gays exist and they come close. As second there is no such a group that you described that is not interested in sex at all unless we go look at psychological disorders.

So I rest my case. My evidence comes closer then yours does but of course you can close your eyes and pretend like you do not to see this. Which is up to you. Though I am sure Jesus meant gays.
