First time that I’ve seen how the Tridentine Mass is, or more accurately, how the Consecration is there. Thanks.

Thank you for posting those pictures! My DH and I are traditional Catholics and so far we’ve gone to two TLMs. (We’re 19 and 20 and we’ve been raised on the Novus Ordo.) Both traditional churches I’ve seen are more beautiful than most NO churches! God bless you.

my Mother my Confidence,

Once in a while, I go to an Indult church here in Chicago. The pastor is a former music teacher who has a love of sacred music, and tried hard to incorporate sacred music into the parish.

Here you can see some video of the Mass with the choir using Mozart’s Requiem.

That mass is scary…(AHH!!)
I still don’t see the use of the priest talking to the wall instead of the people and the fact that the altar is facing the wrong way…
Podo
(my opinion)

You’re right. Luther had it correct and everyone else is wrong. Bring in the tables. Enough of that damanble Tridenitine Mass as Luther would say. 👍

Oh my…that is so, so beautiful…I can’t get enough of it. I wish my parish had TLM’s more than once a week…I am fortunate we have it every Sunday…but how sweet would it be if we had it every day…my heart and soul lies with the TLM. There is nothing better in my mind…It is my one true love

I agree that the entire 2,000 year liturgical tradition of the Church, both in the East and in the West, has been silly.

P.S. The priest isn’t talking to the wall. He’s praying to the Father on our behalf. He is our leader; he leads us to Christ, who will rise from the East.

As our Holy Father Benedict wrote:
In the early Church, prayer towards the east was regarded as an apostolic tradition. We cannot date exactly when this turn to the east, the diverting of the gaze from the Temple, took place, but it is certain that it goes back to the earliest times and was always regarded as an essential characteristic of Christian liturgy (and indeed of private prayer). (Spirit of the Liturgy, p. 68)

There is no need to argue about the modern mass vs. the Tridentine mass because both are available (in many places). Mass preferences are satisfied. While I support the changes in the Mass from Vatican II and prefer that the priest face the Church community, thus including the Church community, I can see the appeal of the traditional mass. In fact, this thread has inspired me to look up the availability of the traditional mass in my area and I hope to go this weekend. There is something to be said for ceremony and presentation.

The very first picture in James_2:24’s post is that of the church in Detroit that just started celebrating the TLM.

The church itself is so big that it’ll take a lot of people before it comes close to looking like its full. Give it a visit if you can (9:30 mass).

The picture isn’t close enough to see, but every inch lining the raredo is covered in little light bulbs. I was taken aback when I first saw it. I have to say, it looks really, really cool up close. Mass there is always beautiful.

Mass ad orientem (with the priest’s back towards the people) is still assumed by the ruberics of the Novus Ordo.

I’ll remind you that the Latin word for “table” is “altar.”
