I agree, it does seem like there has to be more to this story.

I wouldn’t be leaving any of his Masses early…
Ha, you might get a bullet in the behind.

the story says “Church leaders there [diocese in Mexico] defrocked him.” obviously the reporter did not check his sources because only Rome can defrock a priest. He may have been removed from his assignment by his bishop for violation of a civil law and scandal, but if he was defrocked, a process which takes quite some time, it happened in Rome. this is a typical CNN newsbite for shock value, not accurate, substantive reporting

This Padre sounds like an interesting guy! but somehow I just know there’s got to be more to this story…know what I mean? :hmmm:
I recall reading about him a few months back. I think he is in a gang ridden area and is under threat of death. He carried the weapon for self-protection.

However, I have a faint memory that priests are forbidden to take human life under any circumstances - Not sure on that.

It seems as though he could get a body guard from his congregation and avoid the problem. There may have been a bit of personal flamboyance.

The Church has defrocked him. His parishoners are protesting.

Was this CNN reporting?
Or BBC?
Or the Calcutta telegraph?

I google news researched various key words in the article, and came up with three different news stories, all with exact phrasing.

Somebody is plagerizing something somewhere.

In any instance, there are now 4 different news agencies reporting this. None has really done any research on the events (else they would know that only Rome can defrock).

???

The CNN article clearly states that it is a Reuters story. When news organizations like CNN or your local newspaper take stories from Reuters they are not plagiarizing (they are paying for it anyways).

True enough, but I do not recall any of the other reporters attaching the Reuters signature.

And my point is still made. “News” agencies are not really reporting news anymore, they are just reporting on what someone else reported.

Kinda like handing in a report thats 90% quotes from other sources.
One is left to wonder whose really doing the work.
