A Pittsburgh priest who heard the confessions of beggars and of the pope, and who was a voice of reconciliation amid the divisions in the Catholic Church after Vatican II, has cleared the earliest stages in the sainthood process.

A few points…
  1. thank you for the article. How sad that the Passionist monastery in Massachusetts has closed.
  2. It might have been better to label the headline"Passionist" priest because Father Foley belonged to the Passionist order than the Diocese of Pittsburgh.
  3. It is spelled “Pittsburgh”. Even we are fighting through the deep depression of a Steelers home loss to the hated Baltimore Ravens, we have not lost the “h”.
  4. “If I could drive the snowy hills of a Pittsburgh winter in a stick shift Ford, I can do something else.” This should get him canonized!
I have two stick-shift Fords and drive up and down the Pittsburgh hills in winter. Nothing is better for these hills.
