Are the Conn. legislators expecting the church to get out of the emergency room hospital business like they got out of the adoption business in Mass. since the legislators there wanted gay couples to be able to adopt.

More reasons to pray.😦

The Church should really be arguing for an exemption for everyone since abortion is held by Catholic philosophy to be against natural law. The non-religious hospitals as human beings have the right to follow the natural law as well.

A majority of voters in CT are Catholic, although not believing Catholics, evidently. Of course, I can’t remember the last time I heard a Priest mention abortion at Mass. When Terry Shiavo was being starved the bishop came to our church to give the sermon, but not a word from anyone about Terry.

The State has been nuts for years.

The Church here did argue for an exemption. The Legislature decided it wasn’t sufficient and the compromise was that a third party could administer this “vital interest to women’s health”. Apparently, this compromise was reached with the church in other states (Wisconsin if I remember correctly) so they don’t see why or local diocese has a problem with it so, they rammed it through as a result. (All Life League has some articles on that if you want to read more)

It’s a direct assault on the Church from the same people who tout “Separation of Church and State.”

It’s truly evil.

My understanding which could be wrong, is that they argued for an exemption for religious hospitals. I’m saying that everyone should be exempt. No one should be required to do this because it is contrary to natural law – which is binding on all human beings, whether they be Catholic, Buddhist, or of no religion at all.

Yes, Of course. In this instance the legislature rewrote the law to force the Catholic hospitals to provide Plan B. They called it a “compromise” so that the Catholic hospitals could comply with the law, by having it adminstered by a third party.

In other words…the legislature has an agenda. Promote Plan B and Abortion and the Catholic Church is on notice to not get in their way. They are trying to say that all hospitals must provide this basic “healthcare service” ( as gross a description as that is) to anyone who wants it, because their job as a hospital is to provide this “service”. The usual argument is used, it’s a women’s health issue and the Church shouldn’t interfere with public health issues especially if they are running a hospital.

In their twisted way of thinking, they sought the “compromise” so the Catholic Hospitals would not be directly involved in adminstering plan B. (It’s an emergency, don’t you understand, and there is no time to argue the health of the mother). So we can get someone else to come into your hospital and administer it for you. (This is their attempt at being reasonable and sensitive to the Catholic faith).

So the CT legislature doesn’t get it. Apparantly legally, our Declaration of Independence and 1st Constitutional ammendment.mean nothing to this group.

And on the level you have remarked, there is no discussion with them, it is just a plain despicable situation. They don’t understand what they are doing and are blinded by their agenda.

Of course the democrats are craven and have been for decades here in CT, and the republicans are the same as democrats in CT.

Who votes for them? Plenty of Catholics, you bet. What about the Church? Does it teach anything? I haven’t heard a Priest mention abortion in years.

When Terri Shiavo was being starved to death, no one mentioned that, either. But a big time Pro-Choice Professor from Trinity College was given permission to have her group set up tables outside our church after Mass, so that they could collect signatures for their anit-death penalty petition. Imagine that.

Imagine going up to the table and signing the petition of that Pro-Choice group after Mass.

The death penalty is totally different. Anyone is free to be for or against it, and indeed HH is against it. The group (regardless of their other views) ought to be able to work on this separate issue. If it was me though, of course, I would have put a disclaimer about their other views in the newsletter.

In my opinion, there is only one reasonable response to this stupid law. The Bishops should shut down their emergency rooms! If the state wants to dictate the terms, let them fund and pay for the emergency rooms.

Well, Here’s the latest

Gov. Rell signs Plan B legislation

So now Catholic hospitals will be forced to provide Plan B.

I hope a list of the Catholic politicians that signed onto and voted for this bill (now law) gets circulated.

May God have mercy on their souls…

Amen…but watch it spread like wild-fire across the United States. 😦

Go Plan B!! Give the option back to the people! Catholism is horrible in this area, their ideas conflict with what needs to be done. In the Phillipines they won’t even supply condoms to the prostitutes because of their beliefs… So these 15 yr old girls are having aids and babies… I’m all for Plan B, may all the Catholic hospitals be forced to use it. God bless contraception devices!
I assume you've all heard of the thousands of pedophile priests as well, and how the Catholic church and pope and cardinals covered it up. Yet another reason why catholic hospitals need Plan B..
